SOPHIA RÜBEZAHL
30 :: Galactic Empire :: Businesswoman/Archaeologist
CURRENTLY ON: BYBLOS
Character Background
The youngest of the three Rübezahl siblings, Sophia has recently been brought into the fold, as part of the family business - this was her father's decision, not hers.
She grew up on the family estate, on Loronar, raised mostly by her grandparents. Her father and mother visited, when work permitted, but not as often as her big brother, Ceto, who played a significant role in her upbringing.
Inspired by Ceto's holofilms, Sophia took lessons in Echani combat, much to the dismay of her grandmother. Later, she studied the art of Stava, and started to compete.
Not one to be outdone by her big brother's celebrity, Sophia established for herself a considerable following as the latest up-and-coming Imperial sports personality. Aged 18, she fought, and won the championship for mixed martial arts, in the Core World Games. Her victory gave her the perfect platform to publicly denounce the recent destruction of Alderaan, which brought a premature end to her promising sports career.
Thereafter, Sophia indulged in a prolonged period of rebellion and youthful excess, making the most of her father's considerable funds to live the high life, getting caught up in a series of high-profile flings and relationships, and attracting all manner of tawdry media attention, in the process. She tempered the glamour by secretly competing in an underground fighting scene on Coruscant.
In the end, it was her brother, Ceto, who saved her from herself, and, with his help, Sophia was able to pull her life back together. And, inspired by the stories and adventures of her larger-than-life grandfather, she pursued an education in history and archaeology.
Following her education, Sophia became involved in several archaeological digs and expeditions, but nothing sated her thirst for adventure.
Taking advantage of her family's wealth, Sophia went off on solo expeditions, in search of the most remote and dangerous of challenges. To date, her most notable discovery has been the Mountain Monastery of Thermopylae.
Her adventures came to an end, however, when her father decided it was time for her to stop living off of someone else's success, and insisted she was to play a role in the family business, instead.
Raw Material
Sophia has a dislike of authority. Whether it is the government, the military, a board of directors, or an overbearing father. To her, they each represent a force that neuters creativity and choice.
Although she has enjoyed a life of considerable privilege, Sophia is not ignorant of it. She is well-travelled, and is unafraid of shedding her creature comforts in pursuit of adventure.
She has a great relationship with her grandparents, who raised her with love, and, particularly, in her grandfather's case, encouragement. Her relationship with her parents, who embody the very things she dislikes, is strained, to say the least. And, of all her family, she is closest to Ceto.
Not that she would admit it, but she still watches her big brother's old holomovies, and Holonet shows. She has always admired him, and he continues to be a positive influence in her life.
Sophia loves stories, and she values imagination over intelligence. She gets her love of history, culture, and lore from her grandfather, a seasoned explorer in his own right, who regaled her with tales of his larger-than-life adventures.
She resents her own tacky celebrity profile, that portrays her as a disgraced former athlete who became a drunken socialite sponge, famous for dating actors and sports stars.
Spirituality has become an important aspect of her life, and, while she is not beholden to any one religion in practice, she embraces the teachings of many different faiths, and is open to the concepts of magic and mysticism. She has no time for narrow-mindedness.
Sophia is secretly fascinated by the Force, and those who can use it. One of her greatest ambitions is to discover an ancient Jedi temple.
As long as she finds for herself a suitable role within the family business, she can continue to have access to her generous allowance. To her private shame, she is afraid of being cut off.
Sophia has numerous tattoos on different parts of her body, spiritual talismans she has acquired on her travels, over the years.
During one of her solo expeditions, Sophia vanished mysteriously for 3 months, and, since she has returned, she has not discussed it with anyone. Not even Ceto.
She is still more than capable of handling herself in a fight.
Plot Ideas
Adventures with Space Lara Croft - if you have a taste for exploration, or if there's an ancient artifact you would like to get your hands on, Sophia's your woman.
Bond Ambition - Sophia's sense of adventure is not limited to poking around old tombs. She loves a spot of mystery and intrigue, and, if you're the clandestine sort who needs to get into a high-profile soirée, or pick the pocket of a senator, then it can't hurt to have a Rübezahl on your arm.
The Paris Hilton - it's not all wilderness and booby traps, darling. In high society, the tongues are sharper than any claw, and if you care to brave the political bear pit, or like to share anecdotes at the champagne cooler, or exchange barbs in gossip's corner, then you might just bump into Sophia, and her extraordinary hat.
Fanboy Intensifies - Sophia is famous for all the wrong reasons. Perhaps you spend too much time with your nose in glossy flimsis, or maybe you were inspired, by her youthful message of outrage, to abuse a Moff, shave your hair, or even write a strongly-worded letter. Sophia will not appreciate this kind of attention, but it happens. Less likely to appear are the old amateur mixed martial arts fans, and the archaeology nerds, but these are most welcome.
I Sorta Know What You Did Last Summer - you are a tabloid reporter, an intelligence agent (Imperial or Alliance), or just a really nosy bugger who wants to get to the bottom of what exactly what happened during the 3 mysterious months Sophia went missing. Hit me up for extra details, to hash this out.
Always Be Closing - Sophia is a minnow in the shark tank. She doesn't understand business and must carve for herself a niche in daddy's empire. Are you a potential business partner, or a savvy and helpful entrepreneur, or perhaps you're an embittered rival who wants to exploit the naive newbie? Please, be gentle.
The Old Flame - if you are a famous person, or look good in a suit, and you are aged 25-40, chances are you found yourself on the receiving end of some red hot footsie action with yours truly, back in the day. Want to cringe/reminisce/reignite our passion with the heat of a thousand suns? Hi!
Yer a Jedi, Harry - Sophia doesn't get to rub shoulders with Force-users, so she'd be (secretly) thrilled at the opportunity to ingratiate and interrogate, but probably not in that order.
Existing Relationships
(https://www.sw-fans.net/forum/member.php?4612-Ceto-R%FCbezahl)
Ceto Rübezahl (https://www.sw-fans.net/forum/member.php?4612-Ceto-R%FCbezahl) - big brother. He has always been there for her, to save her from the monotony of the family home, to embarrass her in front of swooning teenage friends, and to offer the right kind of advice when she needed it most. He understands, more than anyone, the pressures of fame and public scrutiny. She trusts him completely.
Ophion Rübezahl (https://www.sw-fans.net/forum/member.php?8587-Ophion-R%FCbezahl) - father. Ophion has always had a somewhat distant relationship with his daughter, literally, and figuratively. The family name is about the only thing they have in common. But, despite all of her transgressions, he has continued to support her, financially, at least, from afar. Now he has thrown her into the proverbial deep end of his business world, expecting, and not unfairly, a return on his investment.
Arion Rübezahl - older brother. Perhaps, in a stereotypical middle-child grab for attention, Arion embraced the family business wholeheartedly. Sophia found his intelligence and his cool determination intimidating, when she was little. All of his hard work and ambition has paid off, landing him the role of CEO of the family controlled Loronar Corporation. Sophia will be seeing much more of Arion, soon, and she has no idea what to expect.
Current Plots
Returning Home / Scars (https://theholo.net/forum/showthread.php?57515-Returning-Home-Scars) - After several months of being a prisoner of war, Ceto is finally free, and returns to the family home, on Loronar.
