Disposition of Jovan Station squadrons

This has probably been a long time coming, but I figured with interest high for the defense squadrons at Jovan Station, we probably should put a pinch more work into explaining exactly what is there. This is by no means declarative, so if you have suggestions or requests, please make them. If there is a particular squadron slot you want, let me know.



Titan Squadron: Primarily tasked with station defense and interdiction along the Hydian way frontier, Titan Squadron primarily flies the T-65 X-Wing Starfighter.

Far Eyes Squadron: Veterans of the Battle of Ossus, this squadron primarily serves deep reconnaissance and patrol duty, taking advantage of the RZ-1 A-Wing Interceptor. This squadron is undersized due to attrition loss at the Battle of Ossus and has not been staffed to strength.

Haii'eki Squadron: Flying the long range Taithaa'fei Cizerack superiority fighter, this squadron's role overlaps that of Titan's own multi-purpose responsibilities. Maintained by the Cizeri Trade Navy, these ships are only flown by Cizerack pilots.

Thunder Flight: Providing rapid response anti-capital ship defense for Jovan Station, the BTL-S8 K-Wing flies in a flight of four ships. Normally not equipped with hyperdrive, these ships can be outrigged with hyperdrive sleds for specialty attack missions as needed.

I think Joey would be somewhere near the end of the list for Titan Squadron, though that will presume we have many NPCs filling in the gaps.

I've been meaning to make a pilot for Far-Eyes. Their old leader, Siril Vykov, was killed over Ossus so it will most likely be someone further down the totem pole. I'll let you know when I get him situated.

Can we switch Haii'eki Squadron to Haii'eki Wing, and not keep count of the pilots?

The idea when I made Kijirra was that she was in charge of all the station defense pilots. Those pilots were mostly Cizerack (maybe adding a few Alliance pilots to the mix over time), and they were an amorphous Battlestar Galactica style pilot blob. No need to worry about numbers or who the squadron leaders are: we just cook with whatever active pilots are in the fridge at the time.

I think that still fits/works with the Titans being there. If they're flying missions for Alliance Command, border patrol, etc, then that's outside Kijirra's jurisdiction, and they operate autonomously. But, if they're landed in her hangars, or if any Titan pilots are helping with base defense, they get "deputised" into the Haii'eki fighter blob and follow her lead.

Lets me still play Ivanova and the Starfuries without a Trade Navy officer being the one calling the shots for Alliance Defense Force missions.

Seems fine. That lets the other squads still run their sorties and adventures and let's the cizerack tend to the rare matters of defending when things get rough

An NPC that had been made who oversaw the other squadrons. Since Titan and the Far-Eyes essentially both came from Ossus where they were pretty well whittled down, I had Mazeran acting as overseer for the two on Jovan.

In that case, I don't think Kijirra and Mazeran are mutually exclusive. Kijirra is in charge when people are defending the station, but if the Titans and Far-Eyes are going to be going off and doing border patrols and whatever else Alliance Command wants them to do, that's well outside her purview.

Kinda like Odo and Michael Eddington on Deep Space Nine. Peers/counterparts with different areas of jurisdiction?

It's fine. I know I want to keep Mazeran as an NPC, so that any pilot can write him into their threads if they need to without stepping on anyone's literary toes. I'll need to make a smallish bio for folks to look over for him, but other than that he's wide open.
