One should generally not mix potions and drink. Of course, with any general axiom there are exceptions, explored only by the most learned or the most foolish of souls. Nevermind the tall tales of the wrong Sanguine's Kiss slipped into the wrong batch of mead, leading a hapless drunkard to a particularly dry plane of Oblivion, there are practical reasons that the road to liquid abandon is paved with headstones. More than one Winterfell mage's tale ended in a tavern beyond the college, with an epitaph consisting of "Hold mine tankard and witness this fire magic." Heed not the drunkard, but rather the drunkard with the delusion of temperance.

It is the latter with which this story begins. If I yet retain dignity or shame, it should sting in the retelling.

It begins in the tavern known as the Bee and Barb, to wit the inn and tavern of the common folk of Riften. I found myself in a familiar setting, not unaccustomed to any drinking hall in Skyrim.
