View Full Version : This Meeting is Called to Order (Jedi Council)

Serena Laran

The Jedi on Ossus were growing. Thriving, even. As their numbers slowly swelled, so did the need for more Council members. And so others were added, to offset any who might be away or out of reach for local matters. Those who were local met daily to touch base with each other and take care of any disciplinary matters among the many padawans who had no masters, and then those off planet met weekly with the whole group, via hologram.

This was one such meeting. Ilias Nytrau, Hobgoblin, and Navaria Tarkin joined Serena Laran and Zem Vymes. Solomon and Wei wu Wei were unreachable off planet, but their empty chairs in the semi circle meant they were never forgotten.

"We have a continuing problem," said Serena, her long hair braided loosely and draped over one shoulder as she steepled her fingers in her lap. "Too many new padawans, not enough knights and masters to train them. Well," she added, as an afterthought, "we could force pairings, but many Knights are uncertain of their ability to teach and hesitant to take a padawan. And mismatched pairings only do disservice to both Jedi.

"We already have Katarn Clan for the younglings - led by Knight Oolong with assistance from others. I propose we start three more clans, to coincide with the three main disciplines of study for Jedi. Guardian, Consular, and Sentinel. We can use animal names," she waved her hand, dismissing the problem of names. "It doesn't matter what they're called. We can focus classes for the padawans in path they are most suited for, and the Knights and Masters who follow that path would feel invested in teaching them. It will make finding a suitable master/padawan pairing easier, as well."

She paused for a moment. "Thoughts?"

Zem Vymes

Leaned back in his seat, Master Vymes took in the proposal with an open mind. The sudden surge of students had not gone unnoticed by him, and the resurgent Jedi faced a challenge that the Jedi of old never had to consider. The traditional master/padawan arrangement had worked in the past, but with the Order rebounding from the brink, it seemed if anything to be an impediment.

"A prudent suggestion. Arranging the Order in such a way would enable Masters to set curriculum and promotion schedules, and work in partnership with the Knights to share the burden of training across the pool of learners."

Zem crossed an ankle over a knee, draping his hands in his lap.

"I know that it is a radical departure from tradition, and that many of this Order have first-hand memories of the traditions of the old way. That being said, I agree with Master Laran. This arrangement would not only be fair to our students, but give the Jedi Order the greatest chance to prosper and flourish in this decisive time."

Hobgoblin

Hobgoblin sat in a too-big chair ("we'll make one in your size but use this for now") listening to the other Councilmembers around him speak. Words from their conversation buzzed through the air, flitting hither and yon. The goblin tilted his head, lifting a tall ear into their path so as to catch one of the more important ones.

"Problem."

Hobgoblin focused, patiently waiting for more words to filter in. Hesitant also stood out. Uncertain. Disciplines. Clans. Classes. Curriculum.

Schedules.

The goblin frowned.

"I do not mean to do away with tradition entirely," Serena hastened to clarify, as Zem seemed to have misunderstood her. "We already have group classes, this would just formalize things a little more."

ooc: basically just making us a tiny bit more like Hogwarts

Navaria Tarkin

Currently off world with Daria on Jankok, Navaria attended the meeting by holo. She sat cross legged upon her council seat, slightly hunched over with a hand to her chin which mimicked how she sat upon the grassy grounds of the discovered waterfall they found in their travels on planet. The sound of running water splashing into the pool below trickled in through the communication.

It's important to remember traditions and understand being sentimental, but the Order needs to find balance between what worked and needs to change. The students do need instruction and this will help find their path until we have more teachers, but let's not get so structured that the Padawans can't shift into another class if they find their skills are better matched in another discipline.
