Here's a funny tidbit of information - if you ever have a check someone wrote you bounce, get a certified letter from your bank that the check bounced for insufficient funds. (If the check bounced because there was no account, that's fraud. Go directly to the police and file charges on that puppy.)
But, getting something in writing from your bank documents the date of the lack of funds.
Then notify said person by certified letter that they have 14 days from the day of notification to pay up.
If they do not pay within the 14 day time period they can be charged with a crime.
At least in UT. Your mileage may vary.
Regardless of where you are, still good advice to document the bounced check, why it bounced, and when you notified them of said bounce-ness.
If I had done everything proper a few months ago, life would be more interesting now for someone else instead of me.
