The rustling of chains and the echoing pules of newly arrived slaves had been her lullaby for as long as Dani could remember. The dungeons just outside the T'surran Arena, where exotic aliens from every walk of life were pitted against one another, were too far below the city's public streets to offer any other hymn to her keen ears. The conditions in which she had survived for some twenty-four years were bleak; no windows, only solid bars affixed with crude wiring boasting enough voltage to kill anything foolish enough to brush against it, and plenty of compounded filth - even their Gamorrean residents were more than a little disgusted. A recess in the wall, with a narrow slab protruding from it, served as the Felacatian's uncomfortable, but certainly more accommodating than the disgusting floor, bed. A vent rested several inches above her head and she often tilted her face toward it, listening for the transient strains of guards' conversations and dragging in fresh air filtered from far better living conditions above.

She had a like/loath relationship with down time spent in her single cell. On one hand, the scenery was deplorable and the smells even more so. On the other, solitude was preferable to the lashes dealt by her T'surr slaver, Kor-Kava, when she was either let out to train or kill in the arena. Scars riddled her petite frame, from the neck down there wasn't an extremity that had gone unpunished by the sting of her owner's assortment of flail-like weapons. Vanity had been struck from her long ago but she still desired to hide her shame. She had already mapped out a series of tattoos she would personally apply once she made it out of this hell hole. Trouble was, she'd tried escaping once before and she wasn't sure she would survive trying it again. All of her success in the arena meant nothing, she was expendable and the scores of individuals chanting her name could change their tune swifter than the wind.

For years, she'd been patient; waiting for an opportunity to present itself. But, her patience was running out and she could feel the tremulous twinges of desperation growing stronger within her every day. It was maddening and she silently prayed for an end to her suffering, while simultaneously scoffing at the newcomers who still held out hope for a savior.

There was a loud crackling from the front of her cell, signifying the deactivation of the energy field and the approach of Kor-Kava; none of the other guards were allowed to step foot in her cell. Not anymore. Dani rose from her perch, squaring her shoulders and leveling a hateful sneer at the blue-skinned, four armed bastard when he rounded the corner.

"Ssurrrk kravll harga trrrm, kreema." Kor-Kava said in his native tongue of T'surrese, she understood him perfectly considering the amount of time she spent in his presence. He appreciated the defiant look she wore, no doubt showing that her spirit had not been broken in his absence. Dani bared her incredibly sharp incisors and clenched her fists, the expression diminishing somewhat as a humanoid rounded the corner behind him. A man?

"What is this?" She all but spat vehemently, gesturing to the shackled man.

"Orrrst unvva vrivator, kreema." The alien said, opening the cell door and then shoving the human inside. She felt the beast well within her; a new cell mate, since there was no other space to store him. Her eyes glinted murder but they were focused only on her captor. The alien merely laughed, a sound comparable to the grinding of rusted gears, and slammed the cell door behind the man. Then, his exit was heralded by the activation of the field; sealing her back into her room with this.... fresh meat. Her jade-green eyes swiveled toward him, the skin around her nose bunching somewhat with a barely suppressed growl.

His movement down the wide hall was hindered by the bindings around his ankles, the chain connecting them short enough that he could really only shuffle down the path. To either side he noticed lines cages, some beings moving to the fringes to survey the new face, others giving little care for their own reasons, and in at least one cell was an obviously emaciated being that he could have sworn was actually deceased. “Nice place you keep here. I mean I’ve seen better, smelled better, passed by better, flown by better, heard of better, but all in all it’s not bad.” His sarcastic remarks earned him a jab in the lower back with the butt of a whip, and a gruff order that he really assumed could translate to ‘shut up and keep moving’.

He glanced back at the light shove, curling the corner of the left side of his lips into a distressed look. “Look, I’m sorry. You’re not really my type. I am sure you’re nice deep down, but you likely come home smelling like the wrong end of a rancor. And physically, you’re a touch ugly. Like what’s the point of those facial ridges? What divine being decided your face needed to act as a sat receiver?” That one earned him a punch to the back of the head with the handle, which he was fortunate enough to shift just for it to graze him in a less threatening motion.

“You also play too rough.” His knee was stamped out from behind to bring him down to it with a kick he couldn’t see coming, followed by a better connected strike to the back of the neck. The words that followed were unintelligible, but the odd string of consonants often made it sound like the creature was hissing or growling. He was dragged up by the back of his shirt, which stretched and tore a touch as he was hefted up with brutish strength. His feet never truly got beneath him, but shuffled the best they could across the floor until he was flung into the cell.

He huffed up a cloud of dust, laying awkwardly on the ground. A remote was clicked and the shackles fell open, just as the cage door was closed. He thrust himself quickly at the bars a deep inhuman growl resonating within his throat, until the electricity was cut back on and his body was thrust back to skid across the ground. He rolled over onto his side with a groan, forgetting the guards when he noticed the dark haired girl just several feet away, coiling up like a threatened predator ready to strike first. He knew that pose well enough. “Take it easy cuddles. I won’t intrude on your home for long.” He immediately rose and began to survey the cell, looking for weaknesses and ways to get out, in spite of how close he might stray to her at times.

Not human, she thought as she watched him forcibly lurch away from the charged force field and smack into the disgusting ground. The scent of burning flesh met her nose, causing it to crinkle further and a disgusted huff of air to escape through her nostrils. If he was a mere human, the voltage would have destroyed him most certainly. She could not deny that she was curious but his sarcastic words finally pulled that beastly growl from her lips, her sharp teeth flashing in the dim light of their prison. "No doubt. You'll die your first day in the arena with lame instincts like that. I've been here all my life and I've never managed to escape this cell. At least, not with the power generators still functioning..." The last bit she had spoken a little quieter, glancing off to the side as the foul memories of that night drifted back to her.

The Felacatian clambered back into her alcove, in case he got any ideas of taking it for himself. Then, she turned her jade eyes back upon him and watched him with rapt interest. Could he be some kind of trap? Kor-Kava had tried something like this before and the results, to her emotional state and physical body, had been near catastrophic. She bristled, instantly filled with distrust of the stranger. "You're no human, at any rate. Clawdite, then? The disguise is quite convincing."

His cellmate growled at him, but all he could think of for the moment was how his palms still felt numb. Even as he surveyed the cell, he shook his wrists to hopefully restore some of the feeling to his hands. The growl had not gone unnoticed, but their priorities were certainly different in that instant. Her guarded and territorial behavior conveyed to him that she had been around for a while, and while the scars could have assumed she had lived in slavery for most of her life, they could also reflect on her duration on whatever planet he was on. He on the other hand was not interested in what she wanted to stake her claim on, because he had every intention of not remaining long enough to worry about where he should bunk up.

The question of how long she had been present was answered, and if it truly was arena battles he was to be subjected to then she was obviously tough enough to survive those. “So where are the power generators?” He wandered all about the cell as they conversed, if that’s what it could be called. His eyes found the grate above her, and he quickly moved towards her. “Scoot over.” He began to climb into her little alcove, grasping at the grate above him. “What’s up there?” He didn’t give much though to her previously territorial maneuverings, throwing all that out the window in favor of getting the lay of the land. “Sure, we’ll go with Clawdite.” He honed in as he examined on her dismissiveness to escape, sparing a glance at her. “You’re spunky, but not about getting out of here. What’s that all about?”

"No where you can reach."

She continued to watch him, reclining back against the side of the alcove with her ankles crossed and her lengthy tail flicking in annoyance against the stone below. Suddenly, his attention affixed above her head and she knew immediately that he was going to be headed in her direction. She felt the hairs at her nape flair upward with tension and she scrambled to get her legs out of his way as he climbed up into her personal space. "What the- GO AWAY!" She hissed, aghast at his lack of boundaries and his obvious underestimation of what she was capable of. "There's nothing. No way out, no secret tunnel, no flaw in the wiring, okay! I've checked a million times and the only way we're getting out of here is if a miracle happens OR we die and the stink begins to offend someone enough that they throw us in the river!"

She looked up at him, her hands planted on the slim platform where she previously leaned. "I want to get out, trust me. I've just... never been able to, all right?" She looked away from him, bringing her arms up to cross over her chest defensively. "Rather than wasting all of your energy trying to do the impossible, you should save it for the arena tomorrow. You're going to need it..." No point in asking him more, he'd likely be dead tomorrow and she'd already had a lifetime's worth of dead friends.

Defeated. That was the easiest way to describe her pessimism, and maybe it was with good reason. He inwardly wondered as he looked at her whether that would be him some day, but the thought was quickly banished at the realization that such contemplation was the start of traveling down that road. "Well, if there is nothing waiting for us, then we'll have to make an opportunity." He took her advice for the time being though and settled down, resting into the wall behind him within the alcove she had previously claimed and tried to threaten him away from. "Fair enough cuddles, we'll relax and bide our time. Maybe if we behave, our guards will slip into a bit of complacency. Who knows."

His eyes stared ahead to the cell across from them, where a man with wild unkempt hair attempted to carve into the wall with a bleeding fingertip, scoring a hole through friction. He grimaced at the sight, and turned his gaze over to his cellmate. "So what should I expect tomorrow then?" Obviously he would have to fight, and while he knew there were those our there bigger, stronger and faster than him he had seen his fair share of fights to keep his nerves in check in anticipation of some sort of melee.

"Feeding time," a rough, leathery voice called out over the intercom, interrupting the conversation.

The energy field cut and the sound of an approaching hoverdroid's repulsors became audible over the rustling of the prison's other occupants.

The droid was escorted by five guards whose leader was a slender blue female Twi'lek. While she moved with a dancer's grace like most of her species, she also carried herself with a domineering, sadistic bent. Ilstra, some around the prison had called her, but no one really knew if that was her name or not. To Ilstra's immediate left and right, a pair of piglike Gamorreans grunted and sweated. Behind the left Gamorrean, a sneering male Defel lingered, only just visible as he stepped in and out of direct light. Behind the right Gamorrean was a male human in red Mandalorian-style combat armor, except he wasn't wearing one of their helmets. Instead, he wore a helmeted visor that obscured everything but his mouth.

Ilstra manipulated the droid with a control pad on her wrist; as she did, the droid floated over to various cells or cages. A pair of mechanical arms dispensed foil-packaged ration bars from a slot on the droid's ball-shaped form.

Not all the prisoners received food allotments. Some just received electric shocks.

The droid approached the cell holding Nikolai and Daniella. This time, however, the door did not open. Instead, the mechanical arms pulled back a slat in the door. In the slat's absence, light began filtering into the cell, obscured briefly by the delivery of a single ration bar. Then the slat closed and the droid hovered on.

A few minutes later, the sound of the guards faded. The security field crackled back to life and the prison returned to what it had been.

We? We! WE! What the hell was the matter with this guy? If he tried to insinuate her into his cockamamie plans one more time, she was going to bite him. And certainly not the, Oohh Dani do that again, kind of bite. Instead, she settled for scowling at him, the expression deepening as he settled into the alcove right next to her. She contented herself with believing if she stared hard enough, a gaping hole would split open his head and she'd be done with his distracting presence. The silence was short-lived, her hissed replies seemingly preferable to the weirdness of their next door neighbor. Ah, what the hell?

"Depends on what the crowds are thirsty for. Sometimes, we fight non-sentient beasts. Sometimes we fight each other. Sometimes one round, sometimes many. They tend to go harder on the newbies so you'd better put up one hell of a fi-"

Her words were interrupted by the all-too familiar static of the aged intercom system that heralded the rawhide voice of one of the wardens. Daniella immediately sat up and braced her hands on her thighs, flicking a grimace toward her new cellmate. She shot up and approached the bars, snatching up the single ration as it was passed through; she knew better than to try and argue for more, she'd been shocked numerous times for that dumb idea. Clutching the ration bar tightly, she glared over her shoulder at him. Don't do a good thing, Dani. It does you no good. Ah, damnit...

"Hey." She turned and tossed the ration bar at him, leaning against the wall near the bars as the electricity fizzled back on. She looked away from him immediately, scowling at the crazy guy next door. "Oy, Seldas! Would you knock it the hell off, you're freakin' the new guy out!" Her green stare whipped back over to him. "You got a name or somethin'? I'm not saying I'll remember it. Just annoying to keep saying hey you..." Which she hadn't managed to say once, yet. But who was counting that?

There was a tension in the air he could feel from her as he invaded her territory so soundly, but conversation gave way as distraction. Nikolai could swear he saw her shoulders slump either in resignation of his company, or relaxing into having someone to converse with. “Hmm.” He pondered how difficult they could make things, unfortunately coming to the conclusion that the odds could be so heavily stacked he would have no option. Nothing could be done about that, and he supposed the idea of laying low and waiting for an opportunity would only serve to keep him alive longer.

His cellmate perked at the pop of the nearby speaker, obviously more the veteran to know what it was in relation to the time of day. The statement ‘feeding time’ made him bristle inwardly with anger. The statement was one he often associated with pets, animals, and it was obvious that was how they were viewed. He kept that emotion as reigned in as he could, choosing to not show that it got to him because it was undoubtedly done in such a way for such a reason.

He rose to join her near the bars, where she hastily scurried to. When he reached them, he saw only the one ration bar and wondered if they had made a counting error. That ignorant thought only persisted so long, when the words ‘feeding time’ echoed back in his mind. Animals. Hungry animals fought more desperately until they were unsustained, which is what they wanted.

He fumbled for the ration bar tossed his way, when she suddenly had the change of heart that saw her toss it his way. It bumbled between his palms a moment, before he brought it in towards his chest. His eyes turned briefly to Seldas as the man was interrupted, who looked back at them with his gaunt features and let out a haunting stupefied chuckle. He strode towards Daniella again, opening the foil and breaking half of the ration bar off to share with her. He went through his half quickly, before balling it up and tossing it back towards their alcove. “Nikolai, but you can call me Nik. And you?”

This guy, he was going to get himself killed. She stared at him dubiously but accepted the ration bar nevertheless, peeling back the torn foil and scarfing down her half quickly; the taste was deplorable but at least it settled her stomach for a little while. Nikolai. Nik. Somehow it fit him but she wasn't going to make anything of it, or his handsome face, since he'd most likely be dead in the morning. She began moving back toward the alcove, glancing over her shoulder at him upon being asked her own name.

"It's Dani." She offered curtly, climbing into the jutting bench of the alcove and sweeping away his wrapper with her tail. "You should get some rest, Nik. It's going to be a rough day tomorrow, I can feel it."

And her bad feelings were almost always right.

Their captors released the tranquilizing gases into her small cell early, assuring they would be well and truly sedate when they came in with the shock rods affixed with collars. One by one, they were filed down the filthy corridors of their prison and into The Box; an insufferably hot, claustrophobic's nightmare holding chamber attached to a rickety lift that would carry them to the arena above. She had grown used to the nauseating effects of the tranquilizers but most of the newcomers wretched upon first exposure, making their environment reek.

The lift shuddered to a halt and the doors creaked open, letting in the freshest air she'd been exposed to since her last trip up to the surface. She gulped it in greedily, stumbling around at the guidance of her guards. Eventually, she was shackled to the wall near the huge, wooden double doors that would open and eventually expose them to the arena. Beyond, the jeers of their awaiting patrons grew in volume as someone speaking in Huttese heralded their impending matches.

Nik was chained next to her and she raised a brow at him. "Looks like you're in luck, Nik. Two on two for the first match and you're on my team. Glad I don't have to eat you just yet. Anything I should know before we get tossed out there?"

Nikolai Drakken

He was just beginning to awaken, leg and arm dangling off the alcove with his head lolled to the side, when the gases roused him just briefly enough to bring him into a coughing fit that faded into putting him right back out. Like Dani, he was bound around the neck and brought to the holding chamber, slumped against the wall while his metabolism kicked the tranquilizers out of his blood stream and restored consciousness and feeling to him. Dani naturally awoke before him, her body likely having a higher degree of resistance at this point.

The first sensation upon awakening was his dry mouth, which stretched open wide as it felt as if it was cracking at the corners of her lips. “Mmph…” It was a similar feeling to the stun rounds which had dropped him the first time, without the lingering numbness in his limbs but instead the empty nauseated sensation in the pit of his stomach. He wanted water, but he didn’t want water. He had nothing within his abdomen to really throw up, and so for a few moments he just coughed and dry heaved. He rolled onto his hands and knees, spitting onto the ground as he pushed himself up slowly, using a hand propped to the wall to stabilize himself as he rose up.

The fresh air was really the only thing that aided him in gaining his bearings, encouraged to his feet with a forceful shove that initially put him back to the ground. He crawled up to a stand, and shuffled on with the rest into their new waiting chamber. “Ugh, you’d think they would feed and hydrate us better if they really wanted a good match.” He leaned in behind Dani to whisper, ignoring the Huttese that resonated just barely audibly above the roar of the crowd. He wasn’t familiar with the language, but he usually names were not altered much, and he did hear Daniella’s. It earned quite a cry, and he had to wonder for what reason she had earned the crowds favor. Ruthlessness? Entertainment? Or maybe because she was just easy on the eyes, even when unkempt.

She spoke, expressing what awaited them, and he leaned in to quietly answer so as not to give ideas. “Would have been messed up to room two people together, then pit them against each other.” He didn’t put it past their captors to do such, and she likely didn’t either since she expressed her delight in not having to eat him. He only chuckled at the notion at first, before it faded off into words. “I don’t know, I’m at my meatiest right now. If we stay here a while, might not get as much of a meal out of me.” She asked him to share afterwards, and it seemed like the prime opportunity to tell her about him, but then he knew their was an alternate reason to keep such things a secret. “I can hold my own, without going all out. I’d prefer to keep some things secret, not from you but maybe our captors don’t already know.” His shape shifting capabilities could be useful he knew, he just had to find the right opportunity. It was why he was so aloof about remaining in captivity for long.

"At this point, I wouldn't put anything past them." She murmured bitterly, her jade-green eyes darting between the other competitors that had been brought up in 'The Box'. Along with a slew of new faces, many veterans were present; herself included. The thing was, and what really got the crowds going, was that it was difficult to tell exactly what some of these aliens were capable of from their superficial appearance alone. Many kept a raging beast tightly reined just below the surface, while others boasted rather stupidly about their unseen talents. By now, her captors and the civilians in the stands beyond knew what Daniella was capable of and she was surprised to find they hadn't grown bored of her. She always did try to find more gruesome and unique ways to dismantle her opponents. Doubly fortunate for them both that Nik was on her team, this day.

"Fair enough. My guess is that they will pair a newbie with a veteran for the first couple of rounds. I'm a Felacatian, if you hadn't guessed, so just make sure to stay clear if I start to lose control." She advised him, having no qualms about spilling her supposed secrets. Whatever he hoped to hide from their opponents was well enough meant; however, their captors were already, probably, well aware of his specialty just from having brought him in.

A scrawny veteran and a fresh faced newbie were unshackled several lengths away from them, hustled toward the double doors. Moments later, silence fell as the T'surr warden, Kor-Kava, made his appearance in the 'waiting room'. While many flinched away from the spiky blue alien, Daniella stared at him defiantly as he, himself, decided to pick the additional two they would face off against. Two sets of gleaming crimson eyes alighted upon her standoffish frame and a terrifying smile split the creature's mouth, revealing cracked black teeth dripping with saliva. He stomped toward her and she tensed, her gaze briefly flicking to the baton he carried with him.

"Ahhh, kreema. Isst iva krovva torr." The T'surr crooned, reaching a taloned hand out to caress her face. She jerked out of his grasp and spit at his feet, invoking a grating chuckle from the blue alien. He motioned toward them and two guards moved forward to unfasten their bindings, the threat of their blasters keeping them in check for now.

They were shoved toward the now open double doors and her sensitive eyes protested the sudden influx of light. "Don't hold back, Nik. They won't either."

She warned him of what might come from her, and it took every ounce of his resolve not to comment inappropriately. While many had their spirit broken, not Nikolai. “Right, so when you get that crazy look in your eye, run.” His first instinct had been to refer to that crazy look as referencing something concerning feminine mood swings, but he thought better of it and kept his mouth shut beyond the initial acknowledgment.

He realized the more she spoke of their abilities, the less he could hold back who he was. Everyone seemed to have some sort of trump card, and his was his race, but he wondered just how much they knew of gurlanin’s. “Well I can change to a particular form.” He could do more than that, but he wanted to at least keep one portion of the illusion. Maybe some knew, but maybe there was one guard that might observe them someday expecting some wolf-life form from him, not what he could actually do.

Their 'host' seemed to single Daniella out, and when his clawed grasp rose up she only flinched away, but his arms lifted to stop the motion. He’d forgotten how they were bound however, and the chains merely rustled with a minor shock sent through his system as they met the resistance to stop them from reaching Kor-Kava. The warden only turned to stare at him, but did not discipline him for the resistance. Instead he delighted in the futility of Nikolai’s attempt to strike him, turning and departing their company.

He moved peacefully into the arena that awaited them, the raucous cries of the crowd causing tremors through the very ground they walked on. A body was presently being dragged away, leaving a trail of red behind it. The other was being gathered up by it’s parts, but Nikolai attempted to give it no more thought than that. “Yeah. I’ve got your back, but after today…we make a serious conversation about getting out of here. I don’t care how much or little hope you have, this is some backwards shit they’ve got going on.” He was leaning forward, whispering to her ear for those words, but finally he stepped back.

“Right. Survive first.” He grasped the bottom hem of her shirt, yanking the taut fabric up with some effort overhead and discarding it to the side. If he was going to fight, and go back to his cell, he was going to have an intact shirt to keep him comfortable when he did so. He stalked into the arena ahead of Daniella, but to her side. “Who do you want?”

"Newbies get newbies." She advised before dropping into a hunched stance. The beast within purred at the promise of impending battle, having grown to like the taste of bloodshed after all these years. The observers roared her name, the din of their cheers fading in her ears as she honed in on the veteran she was matched against. She had done many things she regretted in the sands of this arena; bringing an end to this bedraggled Nagai would not be one of them. Rumors circulated about his less than savory past, murder and thievery being the least of his misdeeds, and the way he focused upon her assured he would not go down easily.

On the flip side, Nikolai was dealing with a wild card. But, he was also an unnamed variable in this rather atrocious match up. First, she'd deal with the Nagai and then, if he needed her assistance, she'd step in. Her tongue darted out and licked a path across her sharpened canines. In rejoinder, the veteran removed a short blade from behind his back and tested its sharpness with his thumb. Her eyes narrowed, flicking briefly to the stands where Kor-Kava leered down at the progress of the match with an incredibly smug look on his ugly face. A low growl rumbled in her throat, anger stirring the beast into the starts of a frenzy within her.

Then, she launched after the Nagai. The first three sweeps of his slim blade were dodged without effort, the fourth swipe cutting her cheek and a jagged chunk of her forelock. The sacrifice of her hair afforded her the few seconds she needed to get in close, her hand closing around his wrist and her feet pivoting sharply to bring her back to his chest. She bent, keeping hold of his dagger wielding arm, and used her strength and his momentum to flip him over her shoulder onto the sands. Straddling his struggling body, she pried the blade from his hand and held it to his throat; stunting his struggle while her eyes swiveled to see how Niko faired.

Their captors either knew something about him, or wanted to skew the fight away from Daniella's favor. If given the time to think about it, he was certain he would have leaned towards believing the reason for his matchup was because of the disdain Kor-kava seemed to have for Daniella, coupled with the delight he would have taken in seeing her spirit broken at losing another she had begun to grow close to. He wouldn't let her spirit break though, and while showing his hand would reveal a part of him, it would not reveal the full scope of what he was capable of. Few had truly ever seen a Gurlanin.

The Trandoshan that was to be his opponent was certainly taller, more muscular, as was expected of their predatory species. He stamped his foot forward threateningly, and like a switch had been flipped his body shifted. His muscles appeared to grow their own muscles as his frame enlarged and broadened. Fur bristled across his entire body, and his legs changed shape at the ankle as they too distorted. Nothing about the shift was painful, even as it appeared like his skin was shred from his body to unleash the beast beneath. When it was all said and done, his stature outclassed that of the Trandoshan.

Orange eyes fleetingly swept to Kor-kava, who held a certain level of surprise at seeing just how enormous he had grown by comparison. He couldn't fully read the expression for it's worth, because he quickly set his attention back to the Trandoshan. Like the Nagai, he was given an armament for their 'fair' fight. The weapon appeared like a pike, only he could feel the resonance from the blade, suggesting it had vibration technology that would tear through his flesh with ease.

He was surprisingly quick for his stature though, because as the Trandoshan lunged towards him, he lowered to all fours to shrink his form from the broad target and moved with a certain surprising speed. He strafed right in his forward dash, dodging the strikes and sweeping a claw out to rake the Trandoshan's leg. Flesh was torn down to the bone, causing it to shriek and drop to a knee. Like Daniella, his fight ended quickly, as he quickly swept behind his opponent. One large hand grasped the Trandoshan's neck, and the other grasped his face at the top of his jaw. Be still. I do not wish to kill you. He wasn't certain he had a choice though, but for now would abstain.
