VULCAN TANNER
23 :: Alliance of Free Planets :: Chief Petty Officer
Currently serving on Jovan Station
Character Background
An orphan sold into slavery as a child, who has no memory of her home, parents, or real name.
She was liberated by the Rebel Alliance in her teens, and has served with them ever since.
She currently serves aboard Jovan Station, usually manning whichever work station on the command deck is in need of an operator.
Raw Material
She earned the nickname "Vulcan" from her slave masters because of her volcanic, fiery temperament. This has mellowed with age, but not completely. Her surname comes from the human engineer who adopted her.
Vulcan's first "job" with the Alliance was working as an unofficial assistant to her surrogate father. She began to show an interest in other areas of the ship, helping the loadmasters on the cargo deck before being semi-officially appointed as a yeoman by the Captain. She would eventually enlist, training as a systems operator - an assignment that sated her curiosity to see what was happening on the bridge.
Though she can usually be found standing or sitting at some sort of computer terminal, Vulcan does help out with damage control and maintenance when the situation demands it.
Vulcan has a lot of experience ingratiating herself with others - a useful skill from back in her slave days. She is very easy to get along with, and will quite naturally slip into the role of being the catalyst for a good time. She usually focuses her efforts on making sure everyone else is enjoying themselves, and sources her own enjoyment vicariously based on how well she succeeds.
She also has quite a talent for putting people at ease enough for them to feel comfortable talking about themselves: people often seek out Vulcan when they need to talk.
Because of her slave experiences, Vulcan is slightly phobic of the dark, and of confined spaces.
She is fascinated with folklore, idioms, and weird beliefs/sayings from different cultures. Everything from fairy tales to weird sayings about your face getting stuck when the wind changes direction - though occasionally she gets them a little mixed and muddled.
Vulcan has a mild feline allergy. She isn't entirely sure of the scope of it, but Cizerack are definitely one of the culprits. She takes medication to subdue the symptoms, and for the most part it does not affect her - but at the end of a long shift, if it's been too long since her last dose, things can get a little itchy, sniffly, and cranky.
