Hullo, folks!
One of the story arcs that's been simmering away on the back burner is adding new ships to the Alliance. I'd like to get that stuff moving forward, and I figured: why not milk the opportunity for a Senate thread?
I'd like to get together an "Appropriations Committee", to approve government spending on these new ship designs. I get to explain/exposition them in the form of presenting them to the committee, and then we can descend into bureacracy and bickering. Why is Company #1 building these ships at sites A, B, and C, instead of Company #2 doing it at X, Y, and Z? Why do we need new ships; aren't the Mon Cal ones we already have good enough? We'll be able to see the way that business and politics are blended together, the allegiances of certain worlds with certain companies, the way that certain worlds are predisposed to vote with (or against) certain others, etc.
If it goes well, I have another item or two of business that I might sneak in as well, or do a follow up thread, or something.
Mon Cal and the Quarren would be handy Senators to have, as would Taataani and Sullust. Lantillies has a decent ship pedigree, and Sluis Van might also be a logical fit. We can easily come up with a reason to justify any Senator being there, but ones with ties to industry and/or the economy would work especially well.
