Weeel, the Interior Minister is certainly the sort of person who would be there. As full diplomatic relations aren't up and running Salem's presence would be problematic surely?

I'm just waiting on a PM to Anar in regards to who is going where and what's unfolding in terms of the party. IE: We're in the ante chamber right now. So is the Empress in the Grand Salon area? Are we filing in past her in order and Tear/Anar are coming in last?

Sorry, just a little confused as to what step I'm supposed to be dancing to. ;)

When I started this thread I thought it would just be me and Miranda and now there are so many of us I think Tear is right we need some working parameters. I am working on an outline of the setting and events within which our story sits and will post it up later on today my (UK) time. I hope that will give everyone time to post if they are aiming to later on in their own time zones.

So Party Faces...

Approximate layout. Grand salon: long rectangular room. Lots of people standing down both sides (1,000ish) with drinks. A path down middle. At one end two ante chambers one is published other private. At the other end a small dais. Adjoining this is the ballroom. Huge square room, numerous doors between it and the grand salon. Buffet tables and drinks stations in various places.


Right about now the top dignitaries are processing from an ante room through the grand salon. The purpose of this exercise is to show them off to the lesser guests. These special guests end up at one end of the room, nearest to where the Empress will be.


The Empress and her family are on their way down to the grand salon. They'll enter and make the same walk through the guests. She can stop if she likes but doing so keeps her biggest wigs waiting so she has to be careful because that makes whoever she stops to chat with unusually significant. If I was in charge of such things I might put some well chosen wounded soldiers on the route to show her caring side. ;-)


As the Empress goes by everyone bows and such. It should be Miranda and Gallus in the lead with their family and attendants following along.


When Miranda gets to end of the room, the reception proper begins with the guests being presented to Her Majesty in descending order of importance. This goes on for an hour tops, with the aim being to welcome as many important people as possible. Stopping for a chat even briefly is not much of an option.


After people have been presented they are ushered through to the adjoining ballroom unless Her Majesty decides she would like them to stay with her. Again that's a way of showing particular favour to certain people. *cough*


At the end of the hour (or sooner if she gets bored enough and wants to show it) Miranda sweeps regally to the ballroom and takes up position on an elevated platform with her closest guests and the rest of the guests get shuffled in the ball. There's food and more drink and yes dancing though do not expect Anar to cut a rug.


During the ball guests who missed out on being presented come up to the platform to pay their respects. If they're lucky, the Chamberlain will know who they are (or his protocol droid will) and he'll tell Miranda who the bowing/curtseying people are. If they are even luckier they'll get called up to her to actually say hello. If they are super-lucky they'll be asked to stay for a bit. Again, special favour.

In the meantime, I'd love to hear how Tear reacts to Anar's guarded statement.

I must say I am enjoying the structure that's emerging here with only short rallies of posts and interspersed with standalones and switches back. It feels a bit like being in a crowded busy place (a party perhaps?) and catching snippets of conversation or saying, "Ooh look who's here! What is he wearing?!" before spotting someone even more interesting.

It's not a posting order per se, but the guests are being presented to the Empress and the Tagges in descending order of importance, I think that's what Tear is getting at. The Tagges are walking with the Empress, the Minister of the Interior is first in line because he's the most important politician, etc.

I'm a smidge confused though - was the battle-scarred private Miranda just spoke to one of the guests (which means she's already worked her way down the list a fair way), or were they guards at the entrance that Miranda is talking to before she starts working her way through the politicians? Not sure if Liszt being presented to the Empress happened already, or is happening next. ^_^;
