Destroy the Revenant! (http://theholo.net/forum/showthread.php?56528-Destroy-the-Revenant!&p=1043588#post1043588)

A fairly bare-bones thread designed to get as many fighter jockeys' feet wet at once as we can.

The premise is thus:

Two weeks ago, the First Order fielded a new battlecruiser - the Revenant. It is large, larger than a Resurgent-class destroyer, and certainly larger than anything in the scrappy Resistance's arsenal. This battlecruiser has been on a sortie rampage, attacking Resistance held worlds and Resistance ships with alarming brutality. Each time, it has hit and run before a concerted effort could be mounted against it.

An hour ago, a Resistance task force called Katarn Force chanced upon the Revenant and attacked it in open space. Though the task force was destroyed (including two light cruisers), they dealt significant damage to the Revenant, knocking out it's hyperdrive, shields, and some of its heavy guns. Most importantly, Katarn Force relayed its location before they were destroyed - cluing the Resistance in to the location of the enemy battlecruiser, as well as the ship's condition.

With this knowledge, General Meorrrei and General Luka are convening all active fighter squadrons on D'Qar. They have to act fast. There are three planets within sublight range that are First Order fortress worlds. If the Revenant manages to limp to any of those worlds, the planetary defenses of each would make an attack impossible.

To prevent this, all fighter squadrons will jump to the last known location of the Revenant to try and track her down. Once found, the fighters will form up, and destroy her.

The First Order strongly suspects an attack of this nature is coming, and they will likely have ordered forces to jump to the Revenant's location to defend the crippled ship while she cruises for safe harbor. If such escorts are present, the fighters must bypass them to slag the battlecruiser.

Good luck, pilots. And may the force be with you!

Sorry guys, I'm going to have to play the mental sickness card here.

Can people please make sure they tell the rest of the class what is going on, as far as what squadrons they're with, what fighters they're flying, etc? I was under the impression that we were trying to stay as close to the movie as we could - colour-coded X-Wing squadrons and all that - but I don't seem to be on the same page as everyone else, and I'm pretty lost/confused about how I even fit into things at this stage.

I know you guys are gung-ho to get stuff started, and you don't want to waste time working this stuff out, but I'm just not mentally equipped to keep up when everything is happening on the fly. Sorry. ^_^;

Knowing that you borrowed a name from a book is good to know, but it's not really what I was asking. ^_^;

Are you the squadron leader? Do you fly X-Wings, or are you connected with the B-Wing flying Dagger Squadron (http://theholo.net/wiki/index.php/Dagger_Squadron) from Fans canon and the EU? Something else? Are you a squadron based on D'Qar, or are you one of the squadrons that flew over from Katarn Base? Are you from somewhere else entirely? Are you based on a ship, like Angel Squadron seems to be? Does General Luka know you? Is he your boss, or do you answer to someone else?

Not asking to be a pain in the butt, I just have no clue what is going on, which is very problematic for my brain problems.

Aren't those things that we could discover in the process of writing?

I guess?

Like I said, it's difficult for me because of my health problems. Sometimes, I get confused by the microwave instructions on frozen lasagne. It sucks balls, and for the most part I try really hard to fake being fine so I don't inconvenience people, but in this instance my brain is tangled, and I need a little help from my friends and fellow writers to untangle it. I didn't realise I would be rocking the boat by asking for a couple of pretty basic details that are kinda useful for everyone to know.

You're not rocking the boat, I was just hoping to have some details come out in the telling, instead of straight up explaining them beforehand.

I'm not too precious about any of the details though, so if you want to fill in the blanks as part of your posts, have at it.

We're basically doing our own timeline version of TFA but we are including a lot of elements from the movies. Anne is working on bringing in elements of her former company and command into the Resistance which will mainly consist of older fighters, freighters, and warships that she'll be organizing into Task Force Relic. For now though she just has a number of Gallofree Freighters making supply runs to various Resistance bases. I hadn't realized this at the time, but I'm dangerously close to copying Star Wars Rebels, albeit completely coincidentally.

I'm the one who has been trying to compile together First Order and New Republic info for everyone... so yeah, I get that our timeline is a mix and match. ;)

Basically... the problem I'm having is that "this isn't what I signed on for". When we started out, we were talking about matching the movie as closely as we feasibly could. A couple of squadrons. A base on D'Qar. No starships to speak of. Nice and small. Something that could plausibly have been set up and paid for my one (incredibly wealthy) woman. That's the version of the Resistance that I based my character on... which is not the version we seem to be going with. That's fine. Completely, 100%, totally fine - not contesting any of that in the slightest. But, my character was made to be a square peg, and suddenly we've changed the shape of the hole he's got to go in, and no one's really sure what shape it now is.

Like I said, my medical stuff sucks balls. This probably seems stupidly simple to y'all, but I am sitting here with a brain full of static, and a brain that is refusing to string a coherent thought together. Making everything up as we go is absolutely your prerogative, but unless I have some basic simple "this is what square one looks like" information that I can work with, it's an approach that is just gonna be beyond me. Right now, I don't even understand why General Luka is in the room any more. I can't really take part in a thread if I don't understand why I'm there.

Well with a limited amount of data about the new movie to go around pretty much all of us are making this up as we go. Whether the Resistance grows into something more powerful with subsequent movies (as the Rebellion did) or starts out as something slightly more powerful is pretty much up in the air. I figure the Resistance as it is now in our timeline would probably have nothing larger then a 300 meter or so light cruiser in their ship inventory.

For simplicities sake then, let's say that Dagger Squadron is the same as Blue and Red squadrons, just with a different name.

For simplicities sake then, let's say that Dagger Squadron is the same as Blue and Red squadrons, just with a different name.

What if we play the Battle of Endor card?

At Endor, the Rebels took members from their existing (named) squadrons, like Rogue Squadron, and shuffled them up into coloured squadrons that each had a specific role/purpose/thing. Wedge Antilles and Hobbie Klivan flew X-Wings as part of Red Squadron / Red Group; while Tycho Celchu and Gemmer Sojan flew A-Wings as part of Green Squadron; Blue Squadron was all of the B-Wing pilots, etc.

Maybe the Resistance does something similar? That would explain why Snap Wexley, Jess Pava, Ello Asty, Nien Nunb, etc were all flying as part of Red or Blue Squadrons during The Force Awakens, but the Visual Dictionary shows them having the logos/emblems for a whole different set of named squadrons painted on their helmets.

That'd be a pretty handy game mechanic for us, from a roleplay perspective. Tagge might be part of Dagger Squadron, that's what's on his CV, that's who signs his pay cheques, etc... but that doesn't exclude you from taking part of any "Gold Squadron" threads. Gold Squadron needs twelve pilots for it's next mission, so they pick the twelve best pilots currently on D'Qar regardless of what named squadron they're officially part of.

So, for this mission... Gold Squadron might be the ones attacking the primary objective (the battlecruiser), just like at Yavin, Endor, and vs the Malevolance; while Red / Blue / etc focus on fighting the TIE Fighters? You pick the colour that matches the kind of pilot writing you want to do in the thread, you grab the next convenient arbitrary number, and wing it from there.

I quite like that idea, Jace. Also makes it easier in case some people can't partake in particular threads, so under-representation won't be a problem.

As Red Leader, if I'm needed, just give me a shout :)

Sounds like a canny plan to me :)
