View Full Version : Blockade?

I would like to blockade somewhere.

I've been watching a lot of Star Wars Rebels, and playing a lot of Star Wars Uprising, and that "we have to sneak stuff past the evil Empire" vibe isn't something we have a whole heap of obvious opportunity for on TheHolo. People can do it on their own initiative, but we don't have some big neon sign Siege of Lothal or Iron Blockade type situation.

Having the First Order blockade a planet would give smugglers somewhere to go. It adds blockade runner missions for the Resistance (and for TIE Pilots, trying to stop them), and Stormtroopers will potentially have uprisings to quell. If the world/sector that gets blockaded is outside of the New Republic, the Senate won't necessarily feel inclined to intervene (not their problem), so it's also a nice bit of escalation from the First Order without leading to open war.

Having the Empire blockade the Corellian system (or Corellian Sector) in response to the Resistance movement there could be cool, too. At the moment, all smuggling is "get guns to the rebels" or "get drugs to Black Sun"... but a blockade would inconvenience the populace at large. It'll create more unrest, and it'll give third party smugglers an excuse to go there without needing any Alliance/criminal affiliations. It also potentially gives Shadow Squadron / other TIE Pilots something to do, which they don't currently have a whole heap of.

There's also the Tion Cluster in the present. On paper they're neutral (and surrounded on all sides by the Alliance), but in practice they're Sienar Fleet Systems, the people who make TIE Fighters. An Alliance blockade of the Tion Cluster makes strategic sense, but it's a big investment of resources, and it's morally dubious, potentially painting the Alliance as the villains for a change. It's close to Ossus, so it's possible that the Jedi might start doing secret humanitarian things, openly going against the Alliance. I know Charley started off some Tion-related stuff, so this segues nicely into that.

We could easily do all of the above - it's not really anything "new", more of a DLC for the storylines we already have.

We could even do something in a slightly more Star Wars Rebels era, if people are getting nostalgic for the early days of the Galactic Civil War. Jaden Luka was a smuggler during the OT era of stuff... some flashback stuff with Sanis & Cirr, with some Jedi while they were still on the run, with some other Alliance people before they were Alliance, etc - might be fun for a bit of a giggle.

Did someone say Corellia? Yes, let's all post about Corellia.

Shh, dude. I was trying to play off the whole "injecting activity into Corellia again" thing all subtle like. :p

I hope it pays...anything at all. I'll take it!

This sounds cool. Can I play? I haven't been around in a while. I hope that's okay!

It could also be entirely outside First Order and New Republic/Resistance space as well. The Hutts could've grown powerful in the past thirty years and are now exerting their influences on planets outside of traditional Hutt space, using blockades to exert pressure on those worlds to join up with the cartels. The ships used could ironically be older Rebel/Imperial types retired from active service and then sold off.

^ True, although that doesn't have the bonus side effect of story opportunities for First Order people. Possibly something to do "as well as" a First Order blockade, rather than instead of.

I don't doubt that the Hutts have been spilling out of their traditional borders, though. I'm working in a new version of the map (so that I can update it more easily for different eras), and while there's some squishy breathing room between the Alliance and the Hutts in the present, I'm expecting a more finite/decisive border in the future. Definitely room for the Cartels to bully any neutral worlds into submission and what not, if that sort of story floats people's boats. :)

The more the merrier!

So it seems like we're maybe onto a winner with doing at least a Corellia blockade (if not more). I will have to get my Coulson on and see if I can't kick-start some things...

Oh this is a TFA era idea, missed that somehow. No Arya.

It's both. The Corellia blockade would be in the regular era. If we did a TFA one as well, that would be somewhere else.
