OOC Usergroups

So, Holly and I have been bandying about the idea of possibly cutting out some of the OOC usergroups to cut down on usergroup icon clutter, and we were thinking that it might be a neat idea to open up some of the icons for usergroups like the Order of the Scorpion for folks to include in their OOC account signatures. This could extend to other CT graphics, but it's certainly nothing that is set in stone. We'd like to keep the Old Fart usergroup, as that is automatically added in once you hit five years, but we're open to suggestion. Currently our signature limit is at three images, but it's no hardship to change that.

Thoughts?

If you're after suggestions for signature doodads, maybe little things for the silly stuff, like "arbitrary apostrophe", "aberrant accent", "unnecessary umlaut", and that sort of thing?

I didn't realise we had OOC usergroups to cut down on aside from Old Fart and the Scorpions. ^_^;

There are a few besides those. Dark Banana is one, but since it's really only used by DB accounts I didn't see a need to include it. There's a News Person usergroup, which I can certainly make a signature icon for, and there's also a Supporter usergroup. Something like that (Supporter) would probably only be given out privately for sig use (if we decide to keep going with the supporter status, but that's another bit of idea forming I've been ruminating on so I'll expound on that later).

Supporter is granted when people donate toward the board so that's an auto add just like Old Fart (number of years), just it's when Ogre adds you because you donated to him directly for hosting costs, or if you use the Paid Subscriptions thing in Settings to buy a year of Supporter. I wouldn't change that one, personally.

The Supporter one is pretty small and unobtrustive, so I don't see a problem with leaving it as it is (just IMO though).

For the front page stuff, that's actually used for dishing out permissions to post things on the front page, so that kinda needs to stay for functionality reasons. I don't think there needs to be an icon for that particularly, since having your stuff on the front page is kinda all the visible status symbol you need... but that's just me, it might be something everyone else fancies.

I don't think the Newsperson group needs a rank icon either. I mean, one could certainly add it to their sig if they wanted...?

That's what I said in my last post, doofus :p Either way, I'd like to try and cut back on any bit of possible clutter above avatars. I mean, we could see about putting a section into profiles for accolades like the old X-Wing game did with the medals you earned in combat?
