I've just uploaded an avatar that was 21.3KB large and 150x150. It looked fine. Yet when I uploaded it to my profile, it looks poor. Upon further inspection I discovered the avatar had been changed from a jpeg to a gif, and was only 5.03KB in size. Is this standard? If so, is there any chance we can up the file size limit a bit? I'm confident our internet connections can manage 20KB avatars, after all.
Edit: I've just noticed there's a 15KB limit on images, but if I remember correctly, this limit has been around since the beginning. Surely we can accomodate larger images these days? Regardless, I'm still stuck with a jpeg that has become a 5KB gif, resulting in a poor-looking avatar. Anyone know what has happened there?

Edit 2: My IrfanView was saving jpegs at 100% quality. I knocked it down to 90%, and consequently was able to upload my image without it being automatically compressed and uglified. Please consider this non-issue resolved.
