View Full Version : Give your character/thread a theme!
Baastian Cain
May 16th, 2015, 09:01:38 PM
Story and music go together like... well, like Star Wars and John Williams! Sometimes I use music to get me in the mood for a particular kind of scene, or a particular character, and sometimes I just enjoy matching up a great track to a thread I'm particularly enjoying. I know a bunch of you guys do the same thing, so let's share! If you've come across a piece of music that seems to match a character or a thread perfectly, post it here for our mutual edification!
I'll start things off with a good, rousing, jingoistic Baastian Cain/Imperial Knights theme!
CIGHCoVzqtk
And while I'm at it, this one could well be an Imperial Knights adventure like The Hammer at Phindar (http://theholo.net/forum/showthread.php?55862-The-Hammer-at-Phindar) or Just Getting Warmed Up (http://theholo.net/forum/showthread.php?55889-Just-Getting-Warmed-Up):

Akasha Khan is up to no good, as usual:

This one is a heavy influence for Waters of life (http://theholo.net/forum/showthread.php?55890-Waters-of-Life):

Also Two Delusions, from the Steamboy soundtrack really struck a chord with me during the time that The Hammer at Phindar was being written, and to me it fit Hal being frozen in carbonite perfectly:

Xanatos Etanial

This is what I've always considered Xanatos' theme.

Ndonsa's theme
James Prent

The simple prayer of a country preacher:

This piece was also instrumental in my conception of the duel with Darth Acera in Valley of Humiliation (http://www.theholo.net/forum/showthread.php?22060-The-Valley-of-Humiliation-%28Complete%29):

Cirrsseeto Quez
May 16th, 2015, 10:45:40 PM
This is the primary influence for The Vanguards, but it's suitable for any bit where Cirrsseeto is put into crisis or goes Maximum Hackman

Eluna Thals
May 16th, 2015, 10:50:13 PM
Eluna's theme when she's introspective and inside herself in the Girl/Machine duality

But when she goes Machine and is kicking ass, it's definitely this

Matatek Sel Vissica
May 16th, 2015, 10:58:51 PM
My first choice for Vissica would be the Imperial march, but I use this a lot as well to accentuate the exotic and also give a feel for total war:

Draiya Naaianeya

Easily Draiya's theme

Anbira Hicchoru
May 16th, 2015, 11:18:33 PM
The entire soundtrack for this treehugger movie might as well be his theme but this one in particular fits Anbira:

Q. Samus Dage
May 17th, 2015, 03:52:59 PM
A lot of old rock inspires Dage; Rolling Stones, Doors, Pink Floyd, Aerosmith, AC/DC, etc. As far as his theme, it's any number of old stuff, but this little number from the Stones always puts me in a Dage mood:

Byl Laprovik

Byl's theme is a tossup, but it's probably this:

Loklorien s'Ilancy

This is a sort of two-parter, since in my head both of these songs encapsulate the Battle of Ossus:

Tear's brilliance marred by his madness leading to his self destruction.

The track that plays when Ben dies, whether sooner or late:
"There would be no eulogies for Ben. No photographs of his body would be sold in sundries stores. No people would crowd the streets in the rain to see his funeral cortege. No biographies would be written about him. No children named after him. No one would ever pay twenty-five creds to stand in the rooms he grew up in."

This is the theme for the ship, Alderaan.

Alderaan-That-Was Suite. Incidentally, this was going to be the theme for the documentary, and it would be playing as Ben and Chaz fled the final battle.

Theme for An Offer You Can't Refuse
Razadi Syfa

This is a good indicator of Razadi, and a very apt musical theme that sends her into those nebulous depths:

I can't say anything else other than that I would title this

Sadie K'Vesh
Jun 6th, 2016, 04:57:52 PM
(I may have entire full soundtracks worked out for people so this thread was begging to be spammed. Also fistbump for Ben using stuff from The Assassination of Jesse James. Sadie's got bits and pieces from that in her playlist. Song for Bob being one of them <3)
Any of those... big conversation moments with Sadie:
bIIA3NKqebg
And a more "general" Sadie theme:
ybwqUv7l6no
I have a loooot more for her. :ohno
Yay addons. So while she did the heavy metal gig while with a band, Sadie still plays and such on her own, pretty much in private as a stress kill sort of thing.
Figuring she sounds a bit like this little lady:

Orenth

I also always figured that Greenheart (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x9mTecN-bUU) summed up Mandan Hidatsa (the guy Orenth is cloned from) pretty well, and there's some cool echoes between the two pieces that I like.
Vittore Montegue
Jun 6th, 2016, 06:34:18 PM
I don't really have a theme or anything for Vittore... mostly I just listen to AC/DC to get me in the right mindset to write. :uhoh
This is something I can imagine him sitting and singing though (alone and in private)

(bonus cover version (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VLRZFLKEXS4) that was on Supernatural this season)
Edit:
I take it back. I'd forgotten about this -

I feel slightly dirty posting the Mumford & Sons version (since I grew up sneaking the original out of my dad's record collection), but I'm a sucker for a good bit of harmonising.
US7gjJkR_Dw
Maybe a little bit peppy for the last few Vhiran threads, but he'll get back there eventually.
