I've built a new archive forum here (http://www.sw-fans.net/forum/forumdisplay.php?626-The-Great-Library).

It does away with the glut of the old archive tree and - while still large - is a fraction of the size in terms of subforums within subforums within forums within forums etc. Hopefully it is an acceptable simplification. It retains the groups for the most part without the bloated navigating. Essentially in addition to the main body of the original board (SW films, Collecting, etc) there are two parts to each RP group; IC and OOC. I understand that there were different planets controlled by each group (at any particular time in Fans' history) that had their own subforums, but to be quite honest it seemed redundant and overkill to just continue on with the maze of clicking. As the tree stands now, it is as basic as it comes while still maintaining the old group feel.

There are, of course, no archived threads/posts in there at this point in time since I want to get feedback.

Comments or suggestion are encouraged.

Looks great to me. I'm always in favour of streamlining and that's about as simple as you can get it without sacrificing groups, which I don't think we'd want to do anyway. Nice one, Christin!

Wow ... that's a lot of forums - never realised we had that many over the years. :eek

Definitely better having it all in a list rather than nesting sub-sub-sub forums. :) I approve. :thumbup:thumbup

What is your plan for the private forums of the groups?

tbh I'm not sure how they worked before - accounts that had access before the forums were archived still had access, right?

I believe so.

At this point though, I'm lumping any ooc group discussions into the respective ooc forum. Places like Temple Avalon and the Shrine stuff, and the secret R&D stuff of the Empire will now be public. It is pointless to have all those private forums.

Will all the urls be different again, meaning that all saved links/timelined threads will be incorrect again?

More than likely.

Why does the Circle have anything archived in the first place? We still have current forums for them.

edit: doesn't matter really, sorry. Archive thingy looks great.

I have no clue. There are a massive amount of forums and subforums; there's even a trade federation one that hadn't even gotten as far as a forum description.

I am hoping that with this simplified, it will allow it to be a continuous 'living' archive. So that any iteration of a current batch of archived threads just get placed on top of the old. For instance there are two versions of TSO in the archives. They will be going in the same TSO forum, and whenever stuff from now gets archived, the TSO stuff from now will be put in the TSO forum. When stuff was archived originally, old layouts were kept with just made a spiderweb of an archive. I'm hoping that this does away with that.

There are several group sections in the Great Library that are empty except for one or two stickied threads. Is this still an ongoing process..?

It is, yes.

There are still a ton of threads missing from the archive - are these gone forever?

Nope. They're all still there. I've just not had much time to move them. Was planning on doing a large chunk Saturday since I have off.
