I found out 3 weeks ago that I've been invited to an interview fora job I applied for around two months ago now.

I currently work at B&Q - for you non-Brits it's a DIY-specialist company in the UK. I work 20 hours a week and the pay is only slightly above minimum-wage. As it is, I can't see how I'll be able to support a child in April without benefits if I have to stay there much longer. Since being made redundant in March last year things have been tough what with the house and wedding to pay for and I've been rather miserable at times due to it all.

So things are looking up as this Wednesday morning I have an interview for the position of ICT Operate Apprentice with Liverpool Direct. What this means is much better working hours to give a better work/life balance as well as at least double the money I'm earning at the moment.

I've just finished preparing the presentation I have to give as part of it, which is on "The Challenges of Future Technology to Local Authority Organisations". Gonna email the file tomorrow ready for Wednesday and then spend the next 2 days practicing it so I don't have to rely on the cards as much.

Wish me luck guys and gals!

Good luck Peter!

If you're giving examples as responses to any interview questions, just remember to apply the STAR technique to your answer:

S for situation - what's the context of your example?
T for task - what task did you identify that needed to be completed?
A for action - what action did you take?
R for result - what was the outcome?

If you can, I'd recommend pre-preparing a few examples around time or management / prioritisation , communication and teamwork, as these things tend to crop up in most interviews.

Just ran through the entire presentation with the wife and I never used my cards at all, just occasionally glanced at the screen. Very pleased! Roll on tomorrow!

It went quite well. They were extremely impressed with the presentation - one of the best they've seen in years apparently. The guy who'll be my boss if I'm successful seemed to really like me, he said I have excellent communication skills which is exactly what he's looking for, and he said there's something different about me which he likes from normal candidates. I should know whether or not I've got the job within 48 hours.

Excellent! Got my fingers crossed for you, though it doesn't sound like you'll need much luck to get this one :)

Another thing he said was that he believes I'll really benefit from the apprenticeship. The outcome of the interview was so positive that I'm not getting my hopes up to avoid disappointment just in case.

Still not heard back which is a bit frustrating to say the least. It'll probably be Monday now since it'll be shut the weekend.

It's Monday and still not heard anything. If I'd gotten the job I think I would have heard by now.

I hate it when they leave you hanging. And then when you find out that you never got it in the first place, I always feel like asking them how much of my time they wasted.
