Well, I just saw ROTS. It didn't rot. It was a good movie.

I think that we, as a board, have to decide if we want to persue new membership. If we do, I think we don't have a lot of time to do it. We have two weeks.

My point is that we should all work hard to get whatever changes we think the board needs done ASAP. I'm going to finish the Grevious styleset this weekend. Maybe we can have unregistered members start out with a more exciting styleset than the current white and blue one?

Do we want to advertise? Where do we want to advertise?

If we have new people showing up, and they want to RP, I think it would be best to get the whole scenario going within the next two weeks too.

My thoughts exactly. The whole time in last last night I was wishing this whole facelift and renovation would have had a May 19th date, and I would've fronted the money to have slick little business cards with our addy on them made to hand out during the wait.

But Morgan is right. We need to get this sstuff done. We've talked enough. It's still ok to voice any ideas we might have, but things need to be done now.

I'll finish trying to get some possibly new layouts put on paper so to speak so ya'll can check them over. I'll also turn that mock-up styleset into a Mustafar-themed one. I'll have it done by saturday night. Anything else you guys want me to do, and I'll do it.

I am considering buying a second vBulletin license and basically closing this board (making it a static archive) and starting fresh with the latest vB version, but I am a little reluctant to go that far. If we do go with the RP "reset" thing, I think starting fresh with the board itself might work well.

Doesn't matter if we use vB2 or 3. If we want to implement an archive and leave it as vB, we will need a second license.

It would probably be easiest to stick to vB, so that when/if we do archive and start semi fresh we could more easily keep the last few months of threads on the new board.

I'm unsure how well an import to another BB system will go, mainly because this board is hacked to high heaven. Including a great many DB changes which the importers may not deal with well at all.

I thought that when we were originally discussing changing the forums around we had agreed that it needed to be done before the movie opened. Of course, it didn't. :) I agree, it needs to be done soon. I could contribute up to $20, but no more, as my financial condition is best described as "dire."

Advertising could be done, just give me and s'Il the OKAY!!! We have been wanting to do some, have posted about it... but no one has come out and said "hey, let's do it then." So, we could most likely do some webcomic ad space for a short amount of time no problem. I can put my twenty bux towards that.

I also made up a sw-fans.net sign that I had next to me in my RotS line. I got us on someone's video camera. :D

archiving forums .. poster concerns. Some have expressed concerns to what will happened to the forums that they paid for and said they were going to keep. mentioned about possible refunds for the board so I had to act and try and calm peeps. so...

I explained in a post in a locked forum here to what the possibilities were and why the archive was necessary. The database issues and the lag and the downtime stems from we dont delete anything ever.

I explained the freebie board and purchasing a new one and that current to six month threads will be imported and everything else is locked and closed but still accessible. Including private... I said that the money goes towards the archive costs and carries over the year for the new board.

Unfortunately, alot of people's concerns about the new reboot are being talked about behind closed doors -_- this adds to confusion and they dont explain why they dont like it properly. That is all fine and well and that is their perogative, but this was a concern I said I would bring up here since it is a legitimate one. I was wondering if there could be an official in post the open post about this?

Some of the concerns I have heard from "Group" owners (read: Rie and LW) lead me to believe that we probably would be better off with a second vBulletin lisence.

It appears the concern is that threads will be in a different place and will be tough to locate. As of right now I have TSO requesting none of their threads be archived because of that perception.

If however, we get a second vB lisence, then the archive board will more or less just be this board moved to a different folder on the host, keeping threadID numbers the exact same as they are and making any existing links people may have, very simple to update and point to the right place. If we switch to a different BB solution like phpBB then that will be a whole different animal which may contribute to further dissatisfaction.

But, either way its not an easy call. Group forums do pay for their hosting annually, and if they demand a refund I can and will provide them with a 50% one since we are already halfway through the year and the payments made were for this year, not for a year starting when payment was made. If any group does decide they deserve a refund then they will be given a short period of time to do their own archival before their board is removed.

I would rather the archive contain the site graphics, avatars, and sigs as they are and think the simplist solution really is another vB, though a closed one. There will be almost zero learning curve for us and users of the archive, nearly zero chance for catastrophy, and all with zero administrative overhead after its done. I like those zeroes.

Controlling access to private forums via htaccess would be a never ending administrative duty since it would be IP based and people's IPs often change. Password based is not an option I am willing to use.

Yes, I understand the cost issue, but am, as usual, willing to take care of that myself, though I won't turn down offers of assistance. ;)

She acts as if we are going to delete TSO's threads, but I have told her about ten different ways how it will work, but she is still acting pissed and it seems she is adamant about starting a board seperate from SWFans for TSO it seems.

Yes, it seems like most of the unrest over it all is at TSO. The unfortunate thing is that a lot of the problems people are raising have already been adressed in the OOC forum. People just seem to be looking at Rie's reaction, skimming (and misinterpreting) what's been said, and then dismissing it all as one big mess. At least to me it feels like people are only to quick to start shouting about being opressed by the big bad SWFans :rolleyes

Hopefully this weekend....Is about as concrete a time as I can give. Archiving the forums could take 3 hours or it could take 300.

I will be making our host server cry like a baby the entire time, since creating a new DB out of the export of this one is going to really put it to the test in a big way. And then the pruning of this board is also going to make the server squeal. x_x

There is no way that Palpatine would back --or even suffer the existance of-- a large group of Force sensitive cultists of any type, regardless of their moral leanings. His version of the Sith Code wouldn't allow it.

But I would buy that a small cult existed in secret, just without any real power. They studied Sith lore as well, but focused more on the teachings of Reven, Malak (from the KotOR game), and Exar Kun.

Now that both Darth Sidious and his apprentice are dead, the time is perfect for a Sith Reformation to occur. A new group could form that was more like the Sith of 1,000 years ago. No rule of two

so LV modified her backstory for TSO and I said it looked good without realizing Swfans posted and didn't hold back any punches that the staff is making her do things and about her entire attitude during the reset brainstorming.

Just one thing though - in the EU Palpatine did back and suffer the existance of a large group of Force sensitives. Remember Dark Empire? Byss was chock full of Palpatine's adepts.

I disagree with Rie giving TSO Emperor Palpatine's personal endorsement too, because Palpatine is evil and badass unlike TSO, but there's got to be a different way of putting it. There's a big difference between Joe Darksider and "Cover your balls I think that guy's a Dark Lord of the Sith".

As far as restructuring the group forums, how is that going to be arranged?

Will the CIS forums be archived and gone completely? (With no Hera...??) I don't mind the Ciz forums being archived and deleted. Charley might - but they aren't being used.

I know Harbingers and the Black Hand will be archived and deleted completely. They are not needed.

KA is going to be Onderon the planet/Cult of Freedon Nadd, and Sisters is going to be Black Sun. We're cool with being subforums under one heading, although I don't know what the heading would be.

Should we put the Rebellion and the Empire under the same heading?
