History
The Federacy banked on its technological supremacy to defend its boarders. With the arrival of the Frihtel the safety of Federal space was put into question. After the first destructive battle against the Frithel, the Federal Bureau of Military Affairs quickly ordered the production of a craft capable of defending the boarder.

The answer to this dilemma was the Apocalypse. With more firepower than a fleet of vessels and the ability to incinerate entire craft with only a few rings from the ship’s primary guns, the super battleship filled the role requirements superbly.

One major disadvantage befell the design: only a single craft could be constructed due to the immense build time and costs.

Physical Description
The Apocalypse appears to be an extremely large star destroyer. Its “bridge” structure is less defined and no longer acts as an actual bridge. The location has been converted, instead, into a sensor station.

The craft’s hull appears a dull black. Jagged angles signal weapons’ emplacements as well as nodes and systems covered in extra armor. The bow protrudes downward to allow space for the primary weapon of the vessel—the starfall cannon.

Sudden, sharp edges accentuate the rough, wicked look presented by the powerful dagger craft. A central sunken area provides a launch strip for fighters as well as vents for the mighty hyperspace cannon.

New Technology Explained (in order of appearance)

Marine Configuration: Heavy Siege and Defense
Marine armor is notorious for its ability to sustain substantial damage without the wearer being harmed. This affinity has been coupled with heavy weapons.

The change between the normal marine configuration and the HSD is in the armory present on ship. Normally Sevon Rifle, Co. Revenge assault weapons are the mainstay of the marines. However, these weapons have proven ineffective against Frihtel armor.

Extensive tests have revealed that it is the ability for Frihtel armor to flake away that causes conventional weapons to have problems penetrating the dense material. In response UIT’s Sevon Rifle, Co. division has designed a new rifle and suggested changes to the armory on all ships.

While Revenge assault rifles are still used for engaging conventional enemies, new weapons have been assigned for combat with the Frihtel. The laser gatling has now moved from a SAW (squad assault weapon) to a primary weapon for marines. In addition to this, the Nova rifle has been created to supplement existing arsenals.

The Nova uses the energy output of destroying stable cubatoms. Basically, extremely stable cubatoms are exposed to extremely unstable cubatoms. The result is a high output of energy with a small amount of reactants. The product is excited in a small chamber and then focused into a tight, compact beam.

The beam produced by the Nova carries enough force to incinerate the multiple layers of Frihtel armor. Against conventional armor the weapon has the same effect. However, the immense energy release tends to “shred” barrels lined with normal materials. As such, SRC designed a lining of neutron atoms capable of withstanding the intense pressure and destructiveness of the beam.

The result is an amazingly powerful, compact rifle with a decent rate of fire, high accuracy, and extremely high cost. The rifle’s mass production, along with its new storage cells, is so high a cost that an entire line of weapons only sold to close allies has been opened to neutral militaries to compensate.

In addition to the Nova SRC has also designed the SAS (short and straight) vibrosword. This new sword is designed for intense close-in combat. Serrated edges and adhesive grips give the weapon superior abilities. The blade has an edge of cubatoms to help it remain sharp when slicing through the thick Frihtel armor. Additionally, the SAS vibrates faster than any other vibrosword out giving it enhanced slicing ability.

Neural Advanced Tactics (N.A.T.) Droid-Bots
The Frihtel’s primary tactic was to board vessels and engage in close-in hand-to-hand operations. As such, a counter-measure had to be developed. The solution that Federal engineers devised was the N.A.T. droid-bot.

A single droid brain, secure in N.A.T. Hive located in the primary processing center of the vessel, has a direct neural interface with the crew of the craft. The droid monitors the activity of each crewmember as well as the general activities on ship. When a situation occurs the droid activates N.A.T. bots.

N.A.T.’s live in communities that are stored throughout the ship. The center can be located within anything from ventilation systems to the corner of a corridor. Each box-like structure contains a recharge facility, maintenance facility, and small droid-sub brain that monitors the community and its individuals.

The community structure houses twenty N.A.T. bots. Each bot receives programming from the droid-sub brain that in turn receives orders from the primary brain. The droid-sub brain can order bots in for repairs, assign targets, issue guard duties, or order recons.

The primary brain can map activities throughout the vessel and assign droid-sub brains to respond to situations or reinforce other communities. In addition to this, the primary brain has the ability to control the Hive. The Hive has the facilities and resources to produce N.A.T. bots and contains several droids dedicated to the repair and maintenance of communities damaged beyond built-in repair.

Each N.A.T. is a small bot that understands an encoded scripting language. The N.A.T.’s are roughly the size of a human thumb and levitate through powerful micro-electro-magnets. The bots propel themselves and can travel at substantial speeds.

N.A.T.’s have basic sensors that read optical information as well as gravity and magnetic changes. The information is then sent to the droid-sub brain that quickly assigns orders. If the sub-brain does not respond the bot continues on its previous scripting.

A neural friend-or-foe reader and identifier prevents a N.A.T. from harming Federacy personnel without an overwrite code from the ship’s commanding officer.

Structurally the bots appear to be a sharpened cone. In truth, that is what they are. The tip has a small burrowing laser designed to break through hard substances. When a N.A.T. bot is told to attack something it simply uses its projectile characteristics to disable or kill the target.

Dual Shift: Plasma/Electrical Shield Booster
Mysteriously Frihtel weapons showed the ability to easily bring down the shield nodes the Federacy employs. As such, a booster was designed to help bolster the strength of the fleet’s shields. The booster is capable of being added to existing shields and is an upgrade that is being added to ships in service every day.

Each shield “section” contains five nodes. These five nodes attach to a booster that is, in turn, attached to the primary energy feed. When the ship is active and the shields are lowered or not in use the booster stores energy and creates a backup of plasma from injection shunts already existent in ship designs.

When a node begins to weaken the booster instantly enforces that individual node with a burst of power. If the shield continues to fail and the backup battery begins to run low the booster employs a layer of plasma through existing projection methods to the node’s output. Although the plasma is less affective against energy attacks, it is extremely well suited to protecting against projectiles that might break through the weakened wash shielding.

Theos Architecture and Armor System
The Theos system is an extreme leap forward in defensive capabilities. It should be noted first that the design costs an enormous amount of money due to the materials used in the creation of the god-like protective armor and architecture link.

The most important part of the Apocalypse is its hyperspace cannon. The craft was literally designed around the weapon. As such, its technology and materials play a vital role in holding the vessel together.

Running the length of the ship located deep underneath its armor in the center of its “meat” is a fairly large shaft of heavily reinforced neutron atoms in a cylindrical configuration. Branches of cubatom carbon run off this central spine. Each branch is opposed with another branch. This bone forces kinetic energy away from the outside of the ship and onto the extremely dense and sturdy neutron core.

Additional branches of composite materials (cubatom carbon, or neutron atoms) attach to these braces to help form the rooms and corridors of the vessel. Each wall is produced of one of the two primary composites based on its purpose. For example, the brig consists of cubatom steel while the massive engine rooms consist of neutron atoms. The result is an extremely flexible internal frame that can absorb amazing amounts of kinetic energy.

The architectural design also calls for neutron atom shells to encase the three reactor cores of the craft. Each core is encased in a perfect sphere of this material with its own safety bulkheads and shunts of the same material. The two bridges, located deep within the ship, also are encased in heavy layers of neutron atom armor.

The resulting section of the ship has also enabled engineers to install internal shielding in the Theos system. Sensors automatically detect the failure of nodes and calculate the resulting damage in lightning speed. Entire sections can have shields activated to protect from any energy that penetrates the primary shields on the outside of the armor. For example, the bridge has its own shield system, as do the engines, and reactors. Additionally, the present sectioning of shielding allows larger, less specialized shields to protect general areas—such as corridors, gun emplacements, etc.

The Theos armor and architecture system employs refocillating ionized electromagnetic cubatom-carbon-resin fiber as its outer hull, just as the Thanatos does. This malleable, durable armor helps relieve the stress of kinetic energy as well as reduce the overall affects of energy and heat based weapons.

Defensive Bank V4
The team that designed the Defensive Bank initially planned for it to take on fighters, missiles, space debris, and basically anything that posses a physical threat to the craft. However, with the incorporation of the Shredder and Star Streak Flak Cannon into new designs, the team decided the future of the DB had changed.

As such, the crew designed a new version. This new bank is specially designed to target and take out smaller, faster projectiles. To achieve this the barrels of the new Defensive Bank now run nearly the full length of the gun. Additionally, they have been elongated past the point of the older versions.

This increase in length has resulted in superior accuracy. The joint Chiss technology used to increase the speed of conventional laser gatlings has also been applied to the gatlings present on the DB4.

The Defensive Bank is now faster and more accurate.

Shredder Cannon
The Frihtel use swarm tactics with their fighters and boarding craft. This plan has enabled them to have sufficient infiltrator units survive to inflict significant casualties on the crews of Federacy vessels. Federacy scientists believe the Shredder is the answer to this.

The Shredder Cannon is specifically designed to destroy heavily armored and shielded fighters and shuttles. The cannon uses the cubatom destruction principle (stable being destroyed by unstable) to produce a significant energy output with a small amount of fuel.

The energy is then excited and released through one of four barrels. Each barrel maintains several centimeters of buffer space between the destructive energy and the neutron atoms of the barrel. This greatly reduces the amount of time required between shots.

Additionally, several “charges” are excited in eight chambers at once. This allows extremely rapid fire. This high rate of fire caused the engineers to dub the weapon the “Shredder.”

As with defensive bank technology the Shredder uses electromagnets and powerful hydraulics to adeptly angle the weapon emplacement.

Densa Cannon MKIII
The Densa has always been a weapon of brute force. The “Reaper” version was renowned for its ability to incinerate armor and shred shields. However, the design team began to worry as rumors of a hyperspace cannon circulated. If the weapon proved true, they would be out of the business.

In response to the hearsay of a top secret project the team decided to counter any potential flaws that a hyperspace cannon might posses. They estimated what would be designed and risked their reputations.

The result was a cannon capable of extreme distance shots powerful enough to severely damage corvettes and do significant amounts of damage to larger vessels.

The Densa team achieved this by actually calling the Cubatom design team and getting them to work on the blaster gas used in the creation of the beam. The two teams developed a new gas using engineered atoms that produce more energy per liter than prior gasses.

With this new gas and thicker galvanizing crystals the team began its tests. They developed a variable “sharpness” system that allowed computers to automatically decide the proper focus of the beam for optimal damage at any range. Additionally, they devised a means of varying the flow of blaster gas, making the weapon able to fire powerful but slow shots or weaker but faster ones.

Khendon was pleased and commanded that these new weapons be incorporated into the Apocalypse design. The team was even happier when they realized their gambit had actually saved their jobs—there really was a hyperspace cannon in the works.

Experimental Hyperspace Cannon “Starfall”
Khendon initiated the Starfall project well before the Federacy’s formation. UIT had been developing the weapon in conjunction with Sevon Rifle, Co.’s top engineers for years. As the Apocalypse program neared completion the team finally proclaimed that they had fulfilled the Imperator’s request.

The hyperspace cannon possesses a limited range but is capable of immense destruction. The initial tests worried designers; the weapon would require support from additional main cannons. However, towards the final stretch of development word reached the hyperspace cannon team that the Densa crew was designing a supplement without even knowing about the endeavor!

The theory behind the cannon was first displayed when Khendon built a working version that used a probe to propel energy into hyperspace. The weapon developed by the Imperator was capable of traveling a significant distance through space and releasing a destructive wash of ion energy.

Although this was a breakthrough it was not practical for combat application. The design team’s job was made easier by Khendon’s work but not completed. They took his collected data and their own research and began testing core components.

It was found that a substantial amount of energy was required to have any affect at range against a target. Furthermore, cores of durasteel and carbon quickly melted under the intense conditions of the required beam. These problems were solved by the utilization of neutron atoms to produce a thickly armored cylinder.

Additionally, the armor was shielded and blast pushed away from the walls of the material. Large cooling shafts were needed for two reasons: to allow the dissipation of the intense heat build up and to allow a way, in an emergency, to shunt the buildup of energy away from the cannon itself.

With these problems tackled the theory of the cannon itself was refined. In tests the resulting energy when electrons were transferred from stable and unstable cubatoms proved to have the most debilitating power against computer and electrical systems. This followed the theory of ionization weapons.

With the cubatom ion cannon built additional problems were tackled. A long accelerator strip was required to propel the energy at a high enough rate to facilitate hyperspace travel at a finite point. A small window of hyperspace travel proved to be extremely stable and much safer than a large window. This enforced the need for a powerful accelerator strip and means of facilitating hyperspace.

High power electromagnets were decided upon as well as a chamber designed to excite the ions into rapid motion before launch into the acceleration “ramp”. The initial ions were given a positive charge and the strip a negative. At the end of the strip were placed three emitters projecting a literal wall of negative matter with a negative charge. This perpetuated the adhesion of the two atom types and cohesion of the resulting molecules through engineered hydrogen bonds.

As the fast moving molecules of ions collided with the stable wall of negative matter the energy was literally ripped into hyperspace. The beam, which appeared as a blue and gold dust trail as particles rapidly decelerated from hyperspace, traveled a moderate distance before literally erupting in the center of the target asteroid—causing it to incinerate from the inside out.

As the maximum power capable was achieved it was noted that the particles that escaped hyperspace continued to travel to the target at a fairly motivated rate of speed. These particles, termed “radicals”, collided with test ship’s shields and wreaked havoc on the energy systems.

Additionally, a plume of remaining negative matter created a blue, gold event near the emitter of the powerful weapon. This effect of the multiple layers of negative matter being ripped apart by fast moving ions was dubbed the “flame.”

As the final cannon was tested a scientist remarked that the “beam” like weapon’s impact looked like a star going nova. Another observer remarked that it was more like a star falling in on itself. The weapon’s name was then realized, “Starfall.”

For ship application the weapon was given additional gates of neutron atom armor at the mouth and on each vent to prevent stray shots from entering the tube and damaging the sophisticated internal systems. At Khendon’s request powerful, rapid deployment shields were also added.

The range of the weapon was not as all had hoped. The end result possessed the maximum range of a standard turbolaser. However, the resulting damage was more than expected. The Federal Bureau of Military Affairs was pleased.

Reax Ultra Extended Revision 2
This second generation extended sensors package is designed to integrate readings from remote sensor nodes into the resulting readouts.

Iso-Stasis Command Style
Recently, Federacy neural technology has been increasing by leaps and bounds. Military leaders and leading neural scientists held a convention to establish a means of producing more powerful neural interfaces and implementing them in future designs.

The resulting research project was the Iso-Stasis style:

All vital crewmembers are kept in upright chambers. These chambers are less chambers than containment systems. Advanced shock cushioning holds the body of the host in place. This cushioning uses refocillating technology to pad the physical form.

A headset designed to increase the connectivity between neural implant and transmitter/receiver is placed on the host’s head from an overhead computer. The computer is independent of the others in that it possesses its own hardrive and processors; however, it is jacked into the same powerful laser network.

An information monitor visually displays the vitals of the host who is suspended in the chambers. Nourishment, drugs, and other chemicals and medicines are pumped into the blood stream of the host. Additionally, his or her waste is removed by the stasis chamber.

While in the chamber the crewmember generally chooses not to access their physical body—though they can at will. Their mind is a finely focused tool enhanced by the station’s powerful computers. Each isolated chamber remains independent of the power feed and nutrient/waste removal system of the others.

A holographic projector screen displays the information that the host is accessing and can be used to interact with the host if a neural interface is not present. Like all neural systems the iso-stasis chamber does not harm the host if shut down suddenly.

The chamber allows crews to operate even if the ship sustains substantial breaches in the bridge structure. Also, it increases the overall processing power of the crew’s neural implants and their ability to utilize them.

Iso-stasis chambers are also located in the primary fighter command room where pilots can remotely control fighters. However, remote piloting is currently discouraged due to its limited range and sensitivity.

100i Multi-Laser Military Grade System
Running along the central spine of the ship are neutron atom armored pipes. These shoots house redundant multi-laser information systems. Each is capable of handing the entire workload of the ship on its own; however, the large amount of laser relays present enables higher bandwidth usage during peak times—As happens when the craft is in combat.

Growler Assault Shuttles
Colonel Papperson of the Federal Stormguard decided a new design was needed for the rapid deployment of military forces. The resulting design, the Growler Assault Shuttle, is a fast, mobile platform capable of holding a full squad of troops for long distance journeys.

Remote Sensor Node
The Apocalypse was designed with monitoring a large expanse of space in mind. As such, advanced sensor nodes were designed that could be dropped in the wake of the vessel.

Each node contains four wings that fold out. In the center of the wings is a box-like structure with an optical sensor. One wing is a comm. array, another is a tracking array designed for intercepting and comm. traffic and noise bounces, another is a secondary version of the tracker, and the final one is a solar radiation collector.

In addition to these the sensor node has a gravity sensor and a large particle bounce back sensor. Extra energy is stored in a small tank located on the side of the device.

Overall the node is cheap to produce and has a long scanning range.

Hornet’s Nest Vertical Launch Bay
The Hornet’s Nest is a revolution in fighter storage and launch technology. The Apocalypse possesses two of these structures. Each runs from one side of the vessel (top) to the other (bottom).

The ship has an indented area designed for launch on the top and bottom of the vessel. These areas are lined with magnetic accelerators that can rapidly change the flight path of launching fighters and accelerate them to combat speeds.

Two openings on the top and two on the bottom indicate the Hornet’s Nest. Both the top and bottom rely on the groove method of launching. These grooves are also noteworthy because they contain the powerfully shielded vents that allow heat to be released from the hyperspace cannon of the craft.

Each nest is a vertically standing cylinder. The cylinders contain several levels. Each level possesses a level “lock.” These locks block off all but a single fighter sized section of that segment of the cylinder (though a second door can be closed to cover the fighter sized hole at a moment’s notice). When rapid launch is required the doors quickly slide away to open both the top and bottom of the cylinder to space along with the locks in the center of the two primary doors.

Each fighter has an individual rack imbedded into the walls of the nest. Each rack uses magnetic clamps to hold the fighter. Doors lead to ready rooms where squadrons can meet before rushing off through their corridor to their fighters. Special maintenance hatches allow access for droids and, incase of door jams or emergencies, can allow fighter pilots to reach their crafts.
