Just to add a touch of fun to the Coruscant RP, Lion will be bringing his flagship into the atmosphere of Coruscant to facilitate the evacuation of the Jedi Temple. When I say "the best air support there is", I mean it.

How can you do that if the planetary shield is up?

Yes, but my quote is verbatim from the Empire Strikes Back. This isn't rocket science guys :)

dur, I'm not stupid.

I'm just saying, the Empire is going to be controlling the shields. However, if they're also attacking the planet, shields will most likely be down.

Putting a flag ship in atmos is a recipie for disaster.

The Viscount-class was specifically designed as a multirole vessel. The New Republic needed something that could stand toe-to-toe with a Super Star Destroyer, but it also needed to be multiroled in order to avoid the "warmonger" image. The Viscount-class is equipped with a massive medical and disease containment facility, as well as a section of the vessel designed specifically for diplomatic functions.

One of this vessel's roles is infantry support. Her lower hemisphere is covered in repulsorlift systems, allowing her roughly the same atmospheric capabilities as a Victory-class Star Destroyer. If we keep her altitude at something like 20 kilometers, we can utilize the repulsorlifts in conjunction with the ion engine banks to support her considerable weight, and avoid searing the surface of the planet while we're at it.

As for the shield...well, even if it is up, the Lusankya pretty much established that something along the lines of an SSD doesn't have any trouble knocking a defensive grid down.

Yeah, but that still doesn't make it a good idea. You're a complete sitting duck. It's great if you need to do a big cargo drop or for whatever reason you're working with someone who has crap space capability, but it's a bad decision if you can break atmos with no issue.

I assume that the composite elements of this proposal are being shelved while we discuss revamping the forum's structure?

I certainly hope not. I had some changes that were going to be implimented into TSO due to this that I was actually looking forward to. :\

EDIT: Yup, it's dead.

May it rest in peace, Rie. :D
