The best way to describe "Dead Leaves" is improvisational animation. There were many different animatiors, each given their own section or character to work on. Using the story as a framework, the animators (including Takeshi Koike and his brother) went hog wild, giving their own unique style to each segment. The same goes for the actors. According to the director's commentary, actors would go off book, especially veteran voice actor Kappei Yamaguchi. If other anime titles would go this route, I think that this could be the start of a new breed of ultra-hip and trendy anime.Full Review (http://www.dvdvisionjapan.com/deadleaves.htm)

Dead Leaves isn't going to be everyone's cup of tea. It has a very western feel to it, and the best way I can think of to describe it is "This is what would happen if Peter Chung decided to do an homage to Scud the Disposable Assassin". It's very, very frantic - almost as if the animators all suffered from ADD, and was a complete assault on my senses the first time I watched it. If you're at all interested in experimental animation, check it out.

Technical Info: This is a Matroska (*.mkv) file. I highly recommend using Zoom Player (http://www.inmatrix.com/files/zoomplayer_download.shtml) to view the file, as it supports easy switching between multiple audio and subtitle streams.

This rip contains both the English and Japanese audio tracks with subtitles. In Zoom Player, you can switch between them by right clicking on the video screen and selecting them from the "Stream Selection" sub-menu.

Enjoy!

Well, I'm going to pause this for a bit. If anyone is still interested in getting it, just post and say so.

You need the Matroska DirectShow filter.

I recommend this codec pack to get your filters up to date:

Ok, I downloaded it - piddling around with it now.

Just out of curiosity, is the file extension on Dead Leaves supposed to be .mkv?

Sorry if you find all thise terribly complicated, but at least you'll be prepared to watch high quality rips for a good while now.
