Thank you all! I had a great day yesterday, and ate alot of good food. I had some moose filet with spanish wine, some parfait for dessert and sacher chocolate cake. I invited some friends of mine over, and it was a nice evening :)

Yes, real moose! You know that creature of the deer family living in the woods and stuff :)

Normally, we dont eat moose. I just wanted to try something unusual. Just like in the US, beef, pork, fish or or chicken are far more common. I never tried moose before. Raindeer for dinner is actually somewhat common in the northern parts of the country though.. and in some coastal communities they eat whale meat.
For christmas, many Norwegians like this fish called "lutefisk", its basically fish soaked in lye. That is easily one of our strangest food dishes, because the fish is like like a gelly substance. Either you love it or hate it, in my case I really hate it. There is some funny story describing an Americans first encounter with lutefisk here:
http://www.ecst.csuchico.edu/~atman/ic/lutefisk.html
But if youre really into the bizarre, there are some even more extreme food traditions than that:
* Rakfisk - rotted trout.
* Smalahovud - sheep head which is dried then cooked. The eyes are concidered delicacy (by the fanatic enthusiasts).
* Gammalost - directly translated "old cheese" which is essentially what it is. Its cheese allowed to age for a long time so that a special bacteria breeds over it. The smell gets very strong. Be careful when approaching it within a meter..
Hopefully, I did not spoil everyones apetite :lol

You snot :p
Actually, I'd rather like to try moose and reindeer. I've had emu and ostrich, and I really likes those, so I think I'll like moose and reindeer.
