This week, I had to shake my head in disbelief and laugh of the Terrell Owens / Nicollette Sheridan controversy. Did anyone else follow that? What basically happened, there was this little sketch introing the Monday Night Football show. They had TO alone with an attractive woman who is only wearing a towel. Then the woman (Sheridan) seductively asks Terrell if he would skip the game for her. Next thing, she drops the towel and jumps into Terrell arms (nudity is not shown because of camera angle). I thought the intro was harmless and funny, and the possibility that this could offend anyone did not even enter my mind.

Next thing that happens.. there is an outrage of complaints. Its branded as everything from racially offensive (Owens is black and Sheridan is white), shocking, outragous and mentally scarring. ABC and Terrell goes out publicly to appologize.

The hysteria allmost makes it sound like something horrible had happened. Whats this phobia about naked women? Does this mean there will be no display of nipples at the superbowl this year..?

:angel

For those who missed it, there are a couple of articles on the 'scandal' here:

Im hoping for a monstergame FF wise this weekend, as I got some good matchups for my players. One of the players who could do good is Michael Pittman, running back for Tampa Bay against San Fransisco 49'ers. The guys at Buccaneers website apparently hope for the same, so they made this intro, starring Pittman and the Rookie Wonder... :D

Every once in awhile, something transpires that reminds us that millions of Americans have a stick permanently implanted in their butts. The MNF Intro "scandal" is such an event. I can't get through an NFL broadcast without being inundated with dozens of erectile dysfunction commercials, but a Desperate Housewife throwing herself at TO is "pornagraphic." I admire guys like Tony Dungy and Marvin Lewis, but they need to friggin' relax. And no one has any business bringing race into this. This wasn't an oversexed black jock chasing a woman. It was a TV vixen wearing nothing but a towel throwing herself at a player. There's no surprise that The Son Of Powell would think that Disney would be ashamed to see Disney owned ABC put something like that on TV. Apparently, little Powel hasn't been paying attention to the movies Disney has been making over the last few years. Way to save us from ourselves! But this is the post Janet Boob era. Yet another reason to throw stones at the Jackson family. :shootin

I gotta agree on the whole MNF thing, what a joke. I can't believe its turned into such a big deal. As a number of commentators are saying, if TO wasn't black and her white they may not be making such a big deal.

To me, it was funny, this country needs to get a grip and not get so carried away over this sort of thing. God forbid any of these people go to Europe and watch what they have on TV.

:: drops down to lotus position an begins to meditate ::

Ohummm... ohummmm..

I need a good pickem week now. 10 minutes to game start. I allready made my pics, but here is EXCACTLY what will happen. You heard it from me first.. :evil

Arizona at Carolina - Panthers are slightly worse with their RB injuries, but the home crowd will inspire their throwing game for a win
Dallas at Baltimore - Ravens have great defense, Dallas looks horrible right now. Expect many turnovers.
Denver at New Orleans - another +100 yards game for Reuben Droughns and Ashley Lelie finds the endzone.
Detroit at Minnesota - Daunte Culpepper and Burleson will have a field day
Indianapolis at Chicago - 4 TDs and +350 yards for Manning
N.Y. Jets at Cleveland - Curtis Martin runs them down with 2 TDs
Pittsburgh at Cincinnati - you gotta be kidding me. Steelers are stable as a rock, while Bengals look as stable as Plutonium
San Francisco at Tampa Bay - Pittman and Clayton = teh win vs cardhouse defense
St. Louis at Buffalo - strong at home
Tennessee at Jacksonville - 3:6 vs 6:3
Miami at Seattle - Granted, the Hawks have been disappointing lately, but against the Dolphins..
San Diego at Oakland - 6:3 vs 3:6
Atlanta at N.Y. Giants - Falcons look good right now, Giants does not.
Washington at Philadelphia - here is whats going to happen. Washington will spend 3 quarters searching for the endzone while Terrell Owens invents new celebration rituals
Green Bay at Houston - Favre throwing for +400 yards. A shoothout, and Texans cant keep up with Packers scoring output.
New England at Kansas City - this weeks highlight. Yet another shootout, but Patriots got the better defense and Chiefs will turnover the ball. Expect lots of yards and high double digit scores.

Last Week - 8-6.. 3x 8-6 or something like that in a row :(
Overall - 91-53..

I think this was the week that most everyone was waiting for since the vast majority have been consistent with what was expected. Of course, I figured that Plummer against the Aints would be my best QB option for fantasy. McNabb proved better and also proved that the Redskins don't even have a partial defense to be happy about. Oh well, always next week.

Master Yoghurt
Nov 21st, 2004, 07:45:51 PM
Random thoughts:

- Im 13 out of 14 so far!

- My hat goes off to the Colts for another awesome week in offensive output. Manning keeps the record setting pace with 4 TDs, but perhaps even more impressive was Edgarin James with his 204 yards.

- On the note of MVP, if Manning is #1, Tiki Barber, Priest Holmes and Terrell Owens are decent #2-4, IMO. I think though, if Randy Moss had been well all season, Culpepper just might have snatched MVP. Feel free to agree or disagree with my top 4.

- What the heck happened with the New York Jets offense? Oh, I know. Pennington happened. Which brings me to my next point..

- Quarterback nightmare. When Pennington got injured, it was just the nail in the coffin for me quarterback wise in fantasy football. For the moment, my backup Harrington cant even make more than 10 fantasy points, and now I am forced to look on the waiver wire for alternatives (which is not a pretty sight). I had Drew Brees on my roster earlier in the season, but dropped him because I made some room on my roster for another pickup. Thats by far the most stupid thing I did this season. All I ask of my quarterback is to make 200 yards and a TD on average without a crapload of sacks and interceptions. Is it so hard? -sigh-

- Tampa Bay actually seem to be getting their act together at the end of the season. Right now, Im thinking they will take the #2 spot in NFC South. And SF 49ers just looks worse for every game. Oh well, I guess the the 49ers will get the first pick in the draft next year...

- The Vikings have a nasty habbit of messing up their games lately, and they allmost managed to pull it off again.. I bet they are crying to get R. Moss back. IMO, their RBs are not much to speak of either. I mean, Culpepper is leading their rushing game in yards for crying out loud. Who here thinks M. Moore will get starting role nod once he is greenlight for playing? Probably just me..

- Reuben Droughns.. how many +100 yard games in a row did he get so far? I lost count. Overall, Broncos look very potent offensively both in their passing and rushing attack.

- Im really worried about Seattles season finish. Their game against Miami was like a contest in who could give the game away. Ultimately though, not even the hawks could quite match Dolphins tremendous talents for messing it up..

- The worst offense of the NFL award goes to Washington. Taratatata.. congrats! (At least they have Clinton Portis)

- NYG started the season well, but I sense they will go down the drain now (and the same goes for Detroit).

- Baltimore looks better for every game somehow. Besides their rock solid defense, they have lately started scoring some points. Could we see a strong season finish?

- Dallas might just give up. Theire a disaster this year. Theire doomed to fail whatever they do. And the same thing can be said about Miami.

- For a team jinxed so bad with injuries theire going with a 5th string running back, Carolina Panthers did really well today. Passing game really did the trick.

If it wasn't for the short week, I'd say that Henson would be a lock to start the next game for the Cowboys. But with only 3 days to get ready, the Cowboys will probably still go with Vinny and then give the job to Henson to finish the season and start preparing for next year.

I thought Dennis Greene really screwed the pooch by benching McCombs. He wasn't playing well, but he was still 3-1 over his last 4 starts. King put up some decent numbers, but he still threw some picks and I didn't see anything from him I haven't seen before. I watched King closely when he started for the Bucs. He as inconsistent and inaccurate a QB as you'll find in the league. He's not the guy that's going to get those stud receivers the ball. I think Greene just stomped on his team's slim playoff hopes.

The Steelers got a real challenge from the Bengals today, but they gutted it out. Rothletshaveaburger had just over 135yds, but he was an efficient 15-21. The Steelers continure to run the ball well and they had the ball for over 40 minutes. I expect the Pats to make a big statement tomorrow night as well.

Next week is going to be a brutal week for picks. I've looked at the schedule and there's about 6 games that I can't get a read on. Ughh, if only I prayed to Satan........ ;)

Ravens need health. David Carr needs accuracy. And Sunday Night Football is getting way to scientific. I don't care about how high the ball must be in the arc and the velocity. I JUST WANT FOOTBALL!!

The most shocking part is how mentally undisciplined the Redskins are. They make so many mistakes in every facet of the game, which is just incredibly unlike a Joe Gibbs coached team. I'm starting to wonder if maybe both Schottenheimer and Spurrier were, at least partially, shafted for what wasn't entirely their fault. The team may just be filled with boneheads.

Originally, I was going to say that even Portis isn't doing anything, but then I am reminded of my faithful years as an Arizona Cardinals - and moreso - a Jake Plummer fan. And all those years when he got the blame because he was John Wayne in the West with a buncha guys that could barely tie their shoes. Granted, there were some decent receivers, but no real running game to take the attention away from any passing game.

I have yet to watch any Redskins games this year, though I don't wonder if this isn't the case. Brunell hasn't put up jack for numbers which lets teams key on the run until the pass beats them. Unfortunately, they just key on the run and the passing game beats itself.

Beyond that, there is very little if anything that I can argue in your post Yoghurt. You pretty much hit the nail on the head in every case. Manning is by far and away the choice for MVP if his numbers hold. Injuries may hinder Holmes for the #3 spot, but after Owens, I'm not sure who else I would put up there in any manner of contention.

Eli Manning got tossed into the pool hip deep today and got his first couple INTs. Not sure what to really expect from him for the rest of the year given the fact that the Giants have all but tossed in the towel. There is Tiki and then they have Tiki. The list ends there.

Roethlisberger is a shoe-in for ROTY, but I was pondering the other day who would have won it had he not had his breakout year. I'm coming up with either Michael Clayton who would have been my favorite or Roy Williams. Anyone else have any names that I've overlooked?

And it is a shame that Arizona started King today. I saw the recap box score that showed King threw for almost 350 yards and thought to myself, how can they only score 10 points? Then I looked at the in-depth recap and saw the 3 INTs and 4 Fumbles (1 Lost). Still, like Jedieb said, King is not a starter and with the way that the Cardinals were really starting to role, this was a poor move and will likely send them right back down to where they started, rather than being able to continue to gain some confidence. Granted it was an outside shot, but with the futility of the NFC this year, it was at least a shot with a few more wins. 8-8 in the NFC could very easily sneak a wild card.

The problem in Washington is the owner he is as bad as Steinbrenner but because of the cap the way he opperates will never work in the NFL.

The Redskins defense has kept them in games all year long. I've caught parts of a couple of their games. It's amazing how inept they are on offense. In a way, a bad year like this may be a blessing for Gibbs. He may be forced to blow up the team and start building it from scratch. Parcells overachieved last year and look where it got him this year.

Great game last night. The Texans played well, but their play calling in the second half was way too conservative. They let GB back in the game and Favre made them pay. Tonight, no Priest Holmes for KC and the Pats know they have to keep pace with the Steelers. Even though the game is at Arrowhead, I don't see how the Chiefs can pull off an upset.
