<u>About FansGrog and Private Torrent Trackers</u>

FansGrog is a private BitTorrent tracker created for Supporter member's personal use. A private tracker was created so that we could easily share files with each other and not expose those files to the rest of the world on public torrent trackers. It is private in that people who may be given or have a torrent file that one of has created and uploaded to FansGrog, will not be able to use it, unless they follow the proper procedures by becoming a supporter and using the secured torrent links found in these the Supporter Exclusive forums.

Q. Where is FansGrog?
A. http://sw-fans.net/fansgrog

Q. Why aren't the torrents identified by a recognizable name instead of this "info_hash" stuff?
A. This is one of the security features that is in place to keep this tracking system private. An outsider would have no idea what torrents and files are being shared by seeing the torrent names unless they have paid for the privilege to use these forums.

Q. If I want to upload a torrent do I need to name it anything special to be compatible with this "info_hash" stuff?
A. No, you can name your personally created torrent anything you like. The "info_hash" is generated automatically by the FansGrog software.

<u>Rules for torrents uploaded to FansGrog</u>

1. The maximum allowed file-size, of the file or folders you will be seeding with your torrent, is 800 MB. If a torrent is found to be larger than 800 MB it will be deleted and you will receive a warning on your first infraction. Subsequent infractions of non-adherence to file-size policy will result in further disciplinary action. Be aware that IP addresses are logged to a database and as such the administration knows who uploads what.

2. Use your own judgment regarding what you torrent and what torrents you download. If you are concerned about piracy just say no.

3. Hardcore porn, pedophilia, and gore are not allowed.

4. Be kind. When you download a torrent, post in the thread in which it was offered and say so. Encouraging others to share means more content for all of us.

5. Be kind part two. Remember to share. Don't just close your BitTorrent client after you are finished if others are downloading it too. Leeching, in that you take but don't give, is highly frowned upon and can get you banned from FansGrog torrent use. A download to upload ratio of 1:1 is optimum, but I do realize this is a very small tracker and that ratio cannot always be achieved.

6. Torrents that have had no seeds or incomplete peers for a period of 7 days are automatically pruned/deleted.

<u>How to create, upload, seed, and post a .torrent file</u>

The simplest method I have found for creating a torrent file is to use the (free) BitTorrent client software Azureus (http://azureus.sourceforge.net/).

If you want to use Azureus to create your .torrent files, but prefer another BitTorrent client for managing your downloads just re-install your favorite BitTorrent client after you install Azureus to make your favorite client the default .torrent file handler.

----------------------
To create a .torrent:

Open Azureus

Click "File" - "Create Torrent"

"Use an external Tracker" should be selected and the input field filled in with http://sw-fans.net/fansgrog/announce

Choose "Single File" or "Directory" as it applies to the torrent you want to create. Are you sharing a single file, or do you want to share an entire folder full of files?

"Comment" can be left blank or filled in at your discretion.

Click "Next"

Click the "Browse" button and point it at either the single file or directory you want to torrent.

Click "Finish"

Your torrent file has now been created on your PC.
----------------------
----------------------
To upload a .torrent:

Use this Link: http://sw-fans.net/fansgrog/upload.php

Click the "Browse" button

Locate the .torrent file you created

Fill in the "Associate a password" field with a password you can remember so that you can administrate or delete the torrent if need be.

Click "Upload"

After the Upload button is clicked you should get a success or failure message.

In the success message, you will find a link to the torrent and the vbcode for it, so that you can copy and paste it into a post.

Leave this browser window open for now.
----------------------
----------------------
To seed your .torrent:

This is a very important step. If you do not "seed" the torrent, no one will be able to download it.

Copy the vbcode provided for your torrent to the Windows Clipboard by dragging your mouse over the vbcode tags and content between them and then pressing "ctrl-c" or by right clicking the selected text and then click "copy".

Click the link to download the torrent on the upload success page so that you can begin seeding it. To "seed" a torrent, make sure that your default torrent download location or that you point your torrent client at it when you launch the torrent, contains the file or folders you created the torrent from so that it will see that you have a complete copy of the files to be shared/torrented.

Leave your torrent client running to seed the torrent to those who want to download it.
----------------------
----------------------
To post your .torrent:

If you followed this guide to the letter, all you should have to do now is start a new post/thread and paste the torrent vbcode from your windows Clipboard into the post form.

If you did not copy and paste the vbcode you can type it out. the correct format for torrent vbcode is:

{torrent}info_hash{/torrent}

Replacing the { and } brackets with the standard vboce brackets [ and ] , and also replacing the text "info_hash" with the letters and numbers that are now your torrent's name on the FansGrog server. A proper torrent vbcode tag should look something like this with the standard vbcode tag brackets not the { and } brackets:

{torrent}8b4d023f1d9016aec5d25393421b4b2e4f38b91b{/torrent}

When posting your torrent give the readers some information on what it is in your torrent post. If you can post some kind of preview please do so. And, once again, remember to seed your torrent.

Copying this thread here because I intend to edit the original. I wanted to keep a backup in case FansGrog ever comes back up.

Just to let you know why Fansgrog was taken down. A few months back the host was having some problems with server load being very excessive, and I noticed that the host themselves had disabled Fansgrog while trying to troubleshoot the server load issues.

It turned out tht Fansgrog was most likely not having any impact as the excessive load issues still occured (and still are to this day), but seeing that the host disabled our torrent system I chose not to tempt fate and/or the possibility of a breach of our host Terms of Service, I removed Fansgrog completely.

Okies. While the tracker I picked may not be the most private one, I didn't want to see the torrent forum die completely (which it probably still will - oh well).
