View Full Version : An OT ESB Question

I'm not sure if anyone can answer this or not, due to the timeframe for the question that I'm posing, which is this. In the original credits for Empire Strikes Back, is Boba Fett listed as Boba Fett or is Jeremy Bulloch's character listed as bounty hunter. This really has little true relevance since everyone now knows who Boba Fett is, but during the original Empire, Vader refers to him simply as 'bounty hunter', and thus I'm curious if the character was named in the original credits.

I think the only way this could be proven is with access to those original credits which I *did* have on a 20-year old copy of Empire that I recorded off of HBO a long time ago. Unfortunately, that tape prematurely stops and rewinds around Bespin. I figure that even the re-release of the trilogy before the SE came out would have had updated credits, simply due to the knowledge of the character's name. Perhaps not. Does anyone know the answer to this?

Although I cannot say for certain that this is correct, I'm pretty sure that the name "Boba Fett" is specifically mentioned in the Star Wars Holiday Special, in which he made his first apperance (albeit in animated form). If that is indeed the case, it's pretty safe to assume that the credits in ESB would list the character by name, since the Holiday Special appeared on TV well before ESB opened in 1980.

I have a copy of ESB that my dad dubbed in the mid-80's, it is 20 years old by now so I can try to check that once I get a chance. The last time I popped that bad boy in the VCR was about 6 years ago...I hope there's still nothing wrong with the tape.

Well in TESB novelization he is listed as Boba Fett so I think he is listed in the credits that way too, but that is a guess.

He's second billed in the supporting cast under Ben (Obi-Wan) Kenobi as "Boba Fett". Lucky for you I hadn't rewound the tape I bought in the spring of 1988 the last time I watched it.

There were no major changes back those days, so remembering both the Holiday Special and the "21 back" Boba Fett figure, there is no reason in my mind to think he was ever referred to as "Bounty Hunter" instead.

Alright, cool. Thanks a lot, guys. I appreciate the responses and the info, especially for something that was only a personal curiosity.

Bulloch was also an Imperial officer who told Vader that Luke had arrived on Cloud City, then escorted Leia and Chewie away. :)
