Omnipotence: Grasping the basics

It was a brisk day on Koros Major. The breeze rolled off the mountains was enough to negate any uncomfort created by the planet's sun. The tallest trees in the forest could be seen swaying lazily through the wind. Being such a nice day, Naj had decided to forget about his work inside his tower for the day. He wasnt one to waste time however, so his time outside was going to be well spent.

Although his first attempt at telekinesis was a failure, the incident did succeed in knocking some sense into him, literally. Instead of trying to pull his staff to him from a few feet away, he decided to start with something a little less intense. His staff was the focus of his attention again, only this time it was laying at his feet. He held his arm out in front of him slightly.

Focusing on the staff, he pulled at it gently with his mind. With a slight jerk, the staff lifted off the ground, then slowly lifted into the air. Slowly but surely, it floated up, until it touched the palm of Naj's right hand. With some semblence of satisfaction, Naj dropped the staff again. If he was going to be able to utilize telekinesis, he would have to get used to doing it, and that was his focus today...

With the staff now back on the ground, Naj held his hand out again. The staff lifted once more with a jerk. This time, Naj only lifted it about a meter in the air. He held it for a few moments, then slowly pushed it outward, letting it drift in the air a few feet away from him. Then slowly he pulled it back, letting it gently float to his hand again.

Rather than grabbing the weapon, he turned his palm upward, letting the staff float a few inches above his hand..

With a movement of his hand, Naj turned his palm outward. He took a moment to focus, then pushed outward with his mind. The push he gave was more intense than what he had applied so far, and the staff flew through the air at a greater speed, landing about two meters away.

With the staff now laying away from him, Naj tugged at it with his mind, Slowly, it drifted to his hand. This time was a tad faster than before. Naj was slowly gaining confidence, and was finding that he was able to move the staff with slightly less concentration than before.

He held the staff out again, letting it float in the air in front of him, before pushing outward with his mind again. Again, the staff landed about two meters away from him...

With his confidence increasing, Naj pulled at the staff again. This time, he didnt hold back. The staff flew through the air at great speed. This time, it flew directly to his hand, where it was caught. Naj immediately pulled it back and brought it up in front of him with both hands in a defensive stance.

He repeated the process of pushing the staff away and pulling it back a few more times, each time with succession, and each time with a little more force than the time before. On his last attempt, rather than pulling the staff to his hand, he stopped it in the air in front of him. After holding it there momentarily, he started moving it in a circle around him. This was a bit harder than what he had been doing. Instead of using the force in short controlled bursts, he was having to hold his concentration even longer to perform slightly more advanced manuevering. The perfect circle that Naj had kept the staff moving in was lost as it trailed behind him, so much that it bumped into his upper leg as it made its way back around...

Naj found after some practice that controling the staff while it wasnt behind him wasnt too entirely hard. Even with it behind him, he could almost feel where the staff was, he just had to trust this feeling.

After a few more times, he felt a bit more comfortable with controling the staff out of his view. Even with his eyes open, he could start to mentally envision the wave of energy made by him to move the staff. He squinted slightly and put more power behind the staff's movement. Faster and faster, the staff spun around him, to the point that it was moving fast enough to knock someone unconscious if they happened to tread in its path. Even under his control, the staff twisted and turned about wildly in its orbit around him. He ignored this for now, as he was only trying to become comfortable with technique.

If his first attempt with Telekinesis taught him anything, it was patience, and the knot on his forehead that was just starting to go down was a stern reminder of this...

As the staff made its way around him once more, and was passing by his side, Naj redirected its path, sending it flying toward the side of his tower. With a clang, the staff collided with the wall and fell to the ground. As quickly as it hit, the staff returned to his hand.

For a few moments, he felt satisfied with what he'd been able to accomplish thus far. Even still, he needed to do more. The skills he was learning would prove useful, but were still very very limited.

This time, he kept his staff in hand. Looking around him, he spied a rock that was roughly the size of his fist. Slowly, he lifted it from the ground, then glancing around, found another rock that was similar in size. The second rock was then lifted into the air.

For a few minutes, he simply levitated them, finding it was hard enough to even keep them level with one another....

Soon, Naj began to move the two rocks around him, just as he had done with his staff. Even while they were within his view, they would catch up and fall behind each other. Instead of going all the way around, he moved the rocks in a half circle in front of him. He focused on keeping them the same distance from each other mainly, wanting to grasp control before he moved them around him.

With each pass, the rocks became steadier and steadier in their flight. He was becoming more and more comfortable in his control. It was as if he were standing on a tightrope, struggling to gain his balance. After he became steady, he still found it difficult to move forward. But his balance became better with each step.

With the two rocks circling him at greater speeds with each pass, Naj turned his attention toward the wall of his tower once more. As the two rocks came around from behind him, Naj set them flying tower a dirty spot on the wall.

The first rock collided about a foot away from the spot, with the second hit even further away. Almost immediately, both rocks were snatched from the ground by the force again.

The more he moved the rocks, the faster and steadier they traveled, moving in smooth arcs around him. Just as he had done before, Naj mentally threw the first stone into the tower, connecting with the spot he had originally picked. This time the force of the throw was strong enough to shatter the stone, leaving a cloud of dust to dissipate as chunks of stone fell to the ground. Soon after, he brought the second stone around, likewise crumbling it against the tower wall in the very spot of its predecessor.
