The Termagent Forest shook. The wind was rising and falling like a tide, one moment gentle squalls and the next a raging tumult. Within the reasonably safe shield of some bushes, Salem sat crouched. He watched the dark sky and mulled over the day ahead. He had called Inu for his first training lesson in the Krath’s killing-ground and was debating exactly what the lesson today would entail.
A chill rose from the ground. He would let the apprentice decide.

That one had been easy to see coming. In the end, the paths both lead to the same destination, only gave a slightly different out look on things. By choosing fire Inu had selected to study the manipulation of that very thing. One of the darkside powers that combined altering, sensing and control in one was the harnessing of elements, and of these flames was one of the easiest.

A ball of hate? He shuts his eyes and focuses on the anger tugging at the back of his heart. It appears in his mind's eye as a hellish light, at once bright and dark, undulating like the surface of the sun. He imagines it compressed, from a vast space to small ball, like a miniature of the solar orb he sees in the sky every single day...

Salem watched and listened. There was anger in Inu, but it was forming nothing as of yet. Fire needed precision control, so it was no use giving him a little ‘push’. He would just have to work this one out for himself, for there was no better way that Salem could explain the concept without being able to explain the Force itself.

A ball...he sees it in his mind's eye, a ball of fire...but he cannot give it shape to it in reality. It angers him, but his resolve won't let him fail. He directs his rage not at a concept, but at something physical, something in the real world. A lone shrub stands dying a few feet away; he turns his rage on it, focusing the imagined ball of flame onto it, willing it into existence.

The bush emits a small crackle, then begins to glow from within as it catches fire. Inu fixes his glare on his master, a small trail of flames following the shift of his gaze.

Burn.
The tree goes up in flames, and Inu looks back to Salem. There is no trail of fire this time; he keeps his focus controlled, though the effort is clearly visible in the form of sweat on his forehead.
