I don't mean to be critical of anyone, but can everyone please use the general formatting for the picks that I lay out in the opening posts of these threads, at least in terms of the order in which the games are listed and refraining from including extra information? Things like this just make it all the more difficult to record and double-check everyone picks. :(

Well jjwr don't pick carolina :p though I am biased they are missing there best two offensive players. Smith is out for the season more than likely. And Davis might be out five weeks. Plus KC is unbelievable at home during the regular season at least.

What in the world is happening with the redskins in New York? Im not too happy with Clinton Portis so far.

Chicago looks to spring a surprise.

Very impressive defense by Baltimore. Steelers do not seem to break through.

Good to see K. Barlow doing well on SF this round. He should get me some points in the fantasy league..

Edit: No sooner I mentioned C. Portis and he makes a touchdown.. maybe there is hope

Carolina beating KC was surprising... with Smith and Davis out, I thought they would be toast. Different scheme or not, it doesn't seem like the Chiefs defense is improved at all. Lucky for them, Jacksonville beat Denver.

Green Bay played awful today. Moreso than that though, their offensive playcalling was horrendous. They learned the hard way that you can't simply run the football 40 times and expect to win. They took the ball out of Favre's hands early on, then expected him to bring them back in the 4th quarter. Big mistake. They also discovered how great a double-edged sword that zone-blitz defensive philosophy can be.

Looks like another terrible fantasy week for me. *sigh*

D'oh....Dan Graham TE for the Pats just scored his 2nd TD of the game and I benched him on my team. Figured Pats had too many receivers for him to have 2 great weeks in a row....d'oh!

That McMichael guy from Miami better have a good game!

I wonder what happened to Justin McCareins, wide receiver for New York Jets. I could not see him on any injury list, so maybe he is not playing. Which would suck, because then I will probably have to look for another WR..

Otherwise, nice start for the Jets. Pennington seems to throw some yards. Hopefully he will be credited for passing a TD.

K. Robinson WR for Seattle surprised me positively, I did not expect much from him, yet he made 55 yards and 1 touchdown so far.

Master Yoghurt
Sep 19th, 2004, 03:44:02 PM
Never mind, McCareins is playing after all. He did not show up in the stats until now. Wonder if there is some place I can see who is in the start lineup, and when players are being swapped.

jjwr, the new scoring system gave you a 2 pt victory for last week's game. CONSPIRACY I SAY!!!!!!!!

I was stunned to see the egg KC laid at home today. Yeah, I expected them to still give up points, but I didn't expect them to get beat up by a Carolina team wihtout Smith or Davis. Then Green Bay goes and gets dominated by the Bears at Lambeau. What in the Wide World of Sports is going on?!

Denver had their game won but Portis just fumbled the comeback away. Still, Jacksonville's D has played 2 solid games to start the year. Their games are going to be tough to pick. Are they for real, or just lucky?

Ah crap, Denver and their friggin RB factory. From now I'll just refer to Griffin as Denver1,000ydsrudher04.

If Simms hadn't been determined to end the game with an INT I would have had a perfect afternoon. Man, the Bucs have way too many skill players out. They're going to plod along all year.

Nice punt return by Ego Sanders. He jukes a couple of people, then celebrates an 8yd return by taking off his helmet and getting a 15yd penalty. And later tops it off by leaving the game with a hammy. Nice, Primetime. :lol

But the Ravens looked much better today. Bouler(sp?) still looked underwhelming, but the defense was back to its ol' dominating self.

Another game, ANOTHER Feely INT for a TD. Jesus Kyle, why don't you suit up for the Fins?

Ryan Pode

Boller played a decent game. He was pretty mobile and had a good first half. The Ravens got cocky in the second.

Figrin D'an
Sep 19th, 2004, 08:30:28 PM
Two other stories of note:

Looks like Kellen Winslow Jr. could be out for a while... it's being reported that he broke the fibula in his right leg against Dallas

and

Jerry Rice didn't catch a pass today, ending his streak of consecutive games with at least one catch at 274. (He was pretty upset about it too, which is very much out of character for him. He rarely gets emotional on the field).

Ryan Pode
Sep 19th, 2004, 08:38:53 PM
I don't think he has to worry about that streak being broken. It would take 17 years to do that.

Cyrel Annat
Sep 19th, 2004, 09:43:38 PM
Personally, I didn't agree with the play called at the end of the Broncos game. Sure, it's easy in retrospect to critique it, but third down with no timeouts and within Elam's kicking range, I think you gotta go for the kick or perhaps an outside pass pattern. I did not like the idea of running the ball in the middle of the field as they did, even if it was slightly to the left of center. Too much time can be lost in the process and uh...you can fumble the ball. If you go for the field goal on third down, you can throw the ball away if anything is wrong with the snap and try again. But, that's why I'm here grumbling about a Broncos loss and they get paid the big bucks.

I'm considering it. At least I can and will throw the ball more than 5 yards downfield. What a dismal, embarrasing display of football last night. I'm willing to go out on a limb and say that may be the last Dolphins/Bengals game we ever see on Prime Time. Man was that crappy football. It wasn't 2 good defenses, it was 2 totally inept offenses.

jjwr
Sep 20th, 2004, 12:24:12 PM
I don't get why they keep putting the Dolphins in primetime, even when they're good its a boring game to watch. Its like when TNT/TBS would always show Miami Heat games with scores like 71-65. They just sucked! Pick the teams that can score!

That being said assuming the Pats make it out of Buffalo 3-0 in 2 weeks I can't wait for their home game vs Miami....for the record....that'll be sweet......if it happens :)

JMK
Sep 20th, 2004, 01:02:25 PM
Well good defensive football can be fun to watch, the same applies to a 2-1 ball game. It's just that in last night's case, there were 2 terrible offenses that refused to try anything exciting for fear of turning it over. For the first half it was a delight to watch Zack Thomas and Jason Taylor own the Bengals.

Wannstedt won't last the season, nor will his brain dead staff. The next coach will want a new QB, a new running game and a new O-line that knows what the word 'blocking' means. The Dolphins offense is the worst that I've seen in the NFL, probably ever, and they have no options. The Bills may score less, but at least they have a decent QB, a decent RB, a future horse RB in waiting and therefore they can look forward to the future. Right now the best any Dolphins fan can hope for is for Bummstedt to get canned.

jjwr
Sep 20th, 2004, 01:41:39 PM
A note I read about the Rice Record. Peerless Price just caught a pass for the 72nd Straight Game, which is still a great # but to break Rice's record he would have to catch a pass through everygame up until 2016....can you imagine.

200 more games, most careers don't even come close to that, especially at WR. One record that may never go down.

JMK
Sep 20th, 2004, 01:51:20 PM
Yeah apparently Rice was bent that he didn't get a catch. I'm sorry, but I don't feel sorry for him, nor do I think less of him for having that streak end. If he had caught one 6 yard pass to keep the streak alive we'd all be groaning along and asking how many 6 yard catches has he made just to keep it going.

I think a big part of his frustration came from the fact that he only had one pass thrown his way the entire game. If he had gotten several opportunities, and simply hadn't done his job and caught them, he might have reacted differently. But given that he only had one opportunity to make a catch (on an errant high pass), I do understand why he got upset.

JMK
Sep 20th, 2004, 02:27:37 PM
Yeah it stinks that he only get one pass thrown his way. There's a better than even chance that he's be bent even if the streak wasn't on the line. He's a competitor and wants the ball. That being said, they won the game and he isn't the go to guy he once was. In fact he may be the number 2 or 3 guy on the Raiders now. My question is was he upset because the streak was ending, or because he was not being given the chance to contribute to the offense?

Jedieb
Sep 20th, 2004, 03:32:28 PM
Great streak, great player, but what he SHOULD have said after the game was;
"Yeah, I'm a little upset about the streak ending, but the important thing is we WON the game."

I haven't poured over every quote he made after the game, but that's what I would like to hear coming from a player. Still, I can see why he's ticked off. But it just kind of hammers it home that this is his farewell tour. I think he'd enjoy the season more if he made an announcement some time in the next few weeks that this was his last season.

Jedi Master Carr
Sep 20th, 2004, 09:13:45 PM
I don't know what to say about KC they need to do some changes on that team. The problems is the offense they have no WR's. It's just Holmes and Gonzalez and teams know that and double team Gonzalez. Lucky for them they get Houston, they are awful right now that is a win maybe that is a game they need to get their act together. What about Indy?? I think they might be in a trouble at 0-2.

Quentin Griffin gashes the Kansas City defense for a career-high 156 yards last week. Carolina's DeShaun Foster rips them for a career-high 174 yards this week. Question: What happens when Baltimore's Jamal Lewis faces them Oct. 4? If it's another career high, that will be 300 yards, folks.

From CBSSportsline. I hope its true. :D

What about Indy?? I think they might be in a trouble at 0-2.
Indy got dominated in the first half by the Titans but McNair and company didn't put them away and the Colts won the game with a strong second half so they're 1-1. Edge is hurt though and may miss a few weeks, but othewise Indy looks to be in good shape. I missed the last 5 minutes of the game tonight to make my WalMart OT DVD run, but Philly's D looked pretty good. I didn't think that secondary could shut down Moss and Culpepper after losing their 2 corners, but they played well. Owens gave them another big play, even if he didn't have control of the ball when he landed in the end zone. It's early, but Philly looks good.

Cyrel Annat
Sep 21st, 2004, 08:49:04 PM
Quite a few relative upsets this week, at least IMO. Then again, as a rule of thumb I generally never bet on the Bears or Lions so there's 2 games. As far as fantasy goes, I went 2-1 this week. The one league I lost in by 7 points though going into Monday night I was down 75. Gotta love having McNabb and Moss.
