Interesting article over at the official site.

I guess we can stop looking for the 1138 reference in ROTJ - according to this it doesn't exist... However it looks like they've got their reference set up for ROTS :)

What did it say? The page isn't working anymore. I remember reading about this before, but what's the significance of 1138?

THX-1138 was an early movie directed by George Lucas. Since then, George Lucas has put references to 1138 into a lot (but not all) of his movies. For instance:

A New Hope: Luke says that Chewbacca is a "prisoner transfer from cell-block 1138"

also, in the original novel of A New Hope, Luke impersonates stormtrooper THX-1138.

Empire Strikes Back: General Reikkan says something to the effect of "send squads 10 and 11 to sector 38" - the actual quote is eluding me at the moment.

The Phantom Menace: One of the battle droids has a serial number 1138

Attack of the Clones: More or less impossible to see, but the serial numbers on the back of some of the clones' helmets is 1138.

Finding 1138 has always been elusive in Return of the Jedi, but according to the article, they said that there was no purposeful inclusion of 1138 in ROTJ...

Oh, and it's not only in Star Wars - THX-1138 is on one of the licence plates in American Graffiti (I think on John Milner's car - but maybe on Bob Falfa's?).
