View Full Version : Who is man enough to withstand 600+ furries in three days?

I am.

That's right, it's time once again for me to go to ConiFur Northwest, a semi-large furry convention here in Tacoma, where I'll be a dealer again, peddling my artistic wares to all manner of folks, furry and non-furry alike.

Now, I know what you're thinking, "How can I stand to go to one of those things, and be around those people?" The answers are: I make money, and I carry Lysol.

But seriously, the convention is on the 24th, 25th and 26'th of this month, and I still have a lot of prep work to do, including finiching a few more pieces to sell, and getting my stuff printed. I should have time for it, but if you don't see me posting much, that's why. But, ont he other hand, if you see me on AIM or something, feel free to still say hello and check on my progress. I'll post pictures from the con, and have fun reports after it's all over (don't expect reports during the con, I won't have a lick of free time in the three days it'll be on.) so you can vicariously attend a furry convention through me. I know, it's something you've always dreamed of, and now it's coming true!

Just thought I'd let you all know, and wish me lick getting the three days off of work. Right now it's only a 50-50 chance that I'll get those days off, even though they know that I really, really need them.

Better than you than me. I'd find the heaviest caliper rapid fire weapon and blow them away.

I'll buy one of your pieces for every person in a fursuit you shoot.

The furry sex-art and weird can't-afford-a-whole-suit-so-i'll-just-wear-my-cat-ears-and-tell-everyone-how-much-i-think-im-just-like-a-cat people are the stuff I hate about normal sci-fi/anime contions.. yet you're going to one made up entierly of those kind of people. Good luck. You're braver than I ever will be. Or more stupid ;)

Good luck Mitch! I hope you get the days off work. Remember to shower before you come back online and post. :)

Just for your information, only about 50% of the con attendees are what are considered to be "furverts." Then there is the 10% Anime crowd, the 25% good clean fun furry crowd, the 5% of those who just want tos ee what's going on, the 5% of folks there who aren't really furries, but have an innocent reason for being there (myself in that category), and the two groups of 2.5%, one of which is totally sick and twisted, and the others seem to have no idea how they got there.

I'll sell to all of them, but they're not going to get anything with worse than a PG-13 rating from me, and I'm cool with that.

The next furry convention in my state, I'm going to attend by wearing woodland camoflage and blaze orange vest/hat.

After reading youR post, Charley, I decided to google "furry con missouri"

The results hit too close to home :cry

http://www.furnation.com/ARF/mg.htm - I almost want to go to this one just to record

http://furries.meetup.com/3/

At least everything I've found seems to be in St. Louis.. aside from a "male wolf" who "doesn't bite ;) (I do vore)" that lives here. :|

What is a "vore"? :cry

Edit: Oh no I found out what vore means.. :(:(:(:(:(:(

They're openly bashing and degrading a group of individuals ways and methods of thinking, even though less than half of that group physically engage in perversion. I'm sick and tired of hearing discriminating remarks listed above, Crystal's question on 'vore' excluded, that -everyone- whom doesn't understand what the anthropomorphic participants, even when one of the mentioned above participated in the fandom on Halloween, even if the mentioned did not intend to participate in it.

So, what if I am? What does it matter to you? Yes, I do draw anthropomorphic-subject matter, but you won't find an ounce of my sketches containing anything sexual or of sexual manner. You bashing the fandom is just like taking every white man in the country and lining them up, ask them if they watched college football, and shoot those who said yes.

Only on the internet is making fun of somebody's silly hobby equivalent to death by firing squad.

(Hint: this is why people make fun of furries)

Whoa whoa whoa. Lets compare apples to apples here. At least half of the US's white male population would be dead.

And I believe that the statistic that Mitch posted was about 50% Furverts, was it not? I find it a fair comparison.

I have yet to begin taking the internet seriously, and as a matter of fact; I'm going to cease my attack for my own reasons.

And Fett, don't worry about it.

I'd consider Mitch's observations to be on the money, considering he goes to these conventions all the time. Its part of his meal ticket, to a large degree.

Jared, I think it's not so much the fact that you draw "anthropomorphic" creatures that draws people's ire, but the way you're responding to what amounts to light-hearted blanket statements on the internet that's doing it. Furries, Hot Topic trendies and just about anyone else who goes out of their way to act or appear outlandish are going to receive criticism. And then they cry out about persecution, when that's pretty much exactly what they wanted. And that's when every sane person just :rolleyes and laughs.

Okay, well, this topic has gone far away from its original subject: Me.

And, Jared, I've been the resident furry here for quite a while. The fandom does deserve to be mocked for all its worth. Why? Because many furries are really, really strange people, and tend to latch onto all manner of bizarre things just because they aren't accepted in otehr art forms/RPs/other things. Quite frankly, I hate a lot of furry art, but I will take it up with the artist directly if I feel strongly enough about it.

Also, I might add that an artist friend of mine whose artistic skills I am very jealous of is one of the most notorious makers of gay furry porn. He's still a cool guy, though, in small doses, and so I don't mock him for it. Others do, and he deals with it.

The folks on this board know me well enough, and vicariously know the fandom well enough through me that I know that they're having fun for fun's sake, not that they hate all furries or whatnot. So please, let's get this thread off of the big argumet stink it's been on and go back to fun banter and silly jokes. I need more good jokes for the convention, anyhow. The people that rag on the fandom the best are those inside it, after all. We know more about it than the outsiders do.

Oh, and Charley, for the record I've only been able to go to two conventions so far. Mainly because I'm broke as all get-out and can't afford to go to San Diego for Antrhocon, or Philly for Further Confusion, and Midwest Furfest scares the bejeezuz out of me.

--EDIT--

Well, I finished my Convention badge a little earlier than usual this time. I'm pretty darn happy with the final product.

Granted, but you weren't the first. Maybe some of the participants of the fandom do deserve to be mocked, but that doesn't mean that those who fursuit just to fursuit and nothing more should also be mocked as well. Perhaps I'm taking this too seriously, which I am leaning to believe. I have a mean streak when it comes to descrimination. So, I apologise for turning the thread in a negative direction.

Anthrocon is in Philadelphia, and Further Confusion is San Jose. :)

Shaddap, yew.

I knew one was in Philly, and the other was in SoCal somewhere. That was good enough for me.

Perhaps if I do well enough at this convention, I'll be able to afford to go to one of the others, but it's still highly doubtful because of the high cost of hotel rooms. And, I REALLY don't want to split a room with some of the folks I've met at cons. Yowza...

Oh wait, nm, just read up above and understood that FC stands for Further Confusion in CA.
