View Full Version : The Life of Gaius Noctre

Gaius Noctre

The buzz of activity was business as usual on the bridge of the Imperial Star Destroyer V Night Fist. An single officer stood confidently on the central walkway and looked calmly out into the glittering emptiness of space. As he paced the walkway, the bridge crew watched him warily as he made his rounds. A black sphereical badge sat beneath his rank insignia, designating him as a member of the Imperial aristocracy.

"Captain Spectavi, its almost second shift, do you wish me to fetch the Vice Admiral?"

The aristocrat turned to reveal the Captain's insignia sitting above his badge of prestiege within the Empire. He looked coldly at the officer who had approached him and seemed to consider the request. He shook his head with resolve and began to walk towards the bridge exit.

"Commander, you have the bridge until I return," the Captain said icily as the doors slip open.

The journey through the Star Destroyer's corridors was uneventful but it was a necessity since the Vice Admiral had a tendency to either be wandering the ship while not on the bridge or be in the chief gymnasium used by the ship's troops and personnel. Captain Spectavi didn't care much for this facility when there was a perfectly good officer's gymnasium away from the rest of the ship's population. He couldn't really understand the Vice Admiral's need to mingle with the common soldiers, pilots, and personnel and simply contributed it to Gaius Noctre's eccentric ways.

As Captain Spectavi approached the entrance to the chief gymnasium, the two black dressed naval troopers standing guard snapped to attention. Spectavi didn't even give them a glance as he passed through the doors and into the large facility. Spectavi moved quietly through it now as many sound came from different directions. Some were the clinging of blades in the sparring area while others where the sounds of the workout machinery being used. All of it was an annoying assault on the Captain's ears whenever he had to come down here.

After a bit more searching, Captain Spectavi came across a small gathering of people talking. The man leading the conversation had a large, muscular build with blond hair and pale blue eyes. His physical build gave the obvious impression that he was likely one of the Empire's stormtroopers. A sad misconception in this case as Captain Spectavi approached the group which became silent as they saw an Imperial officer approaching them.

"Vice Admiral Noctre, its almost second shift," Captain Spectavi said to the blond haired man.

"Ah, very well then Captain, I'll be back in uniform in a moment," Gaius Noctre said as he departed from the crowd.

"Thats the Vice Admiral?" one of the men who had been talking with Noctre asked Spectavi in surprise

"Yes," Spectavi replied coldly.

"I thought he was a stormtrooper or one of those Special Forces guys," the man muttered before the group quickly departed, leaving Spectavi to wait for the Vice Admiral.

His waiting was not too long as Gaius Noctre entered into view again in his grey officer's uniform and rank insignia. His suit was well tailored to his build but what drew most people's attention was the area that held rank insignia. A Vice Admiral's rank sat visibly there, but surprisinly beneath it there was no emblem of the Imperial arisotcracy. Instead there sat two medals, one only handed out to the top navy students of the Carida Imperial Academy and the other was actually one handed out to the Empire's stormtroopers, either dead or alive, for services rendered which seemed to answer why Gaius Noctre looked as he did when compared to most other members of the Imperial Navy's officer corp.

"Well, shall we make our way to the bridge, Captain?" Gaius asked with a calm smile on his face.

Spectavi's thoughts lingered, as they often did, on the aristocratic badge that was not sitting amongst the Vice Admiral's rank insignia and badges. Most high ranking Imperials were part of the aristocracy. Those who weren't were more often those who had fallen out of favor, yet from what Spectavi knew, Gaius Noctre had never really done anything to incur the wrath of the Empire's leadership to keep him from receiving the gift of becoming a member of the aristocracy. That could only mean the Vice Admiral had waived the privilege for some unknown reason. Another eccentricity to add to the Admiral's odd desire to constantly mingle with the lesser ranks aboard the ship.

"Of course, sir," Spectavi said with a delayed, though respectful nod before they began their journey to the bridge.
