View Full Version : A woman's breasts

Dutchy

Every woman has them, they're very natural, and babys are fed by them.

What makes them so offensive that American live TV-shows have to broadcast with a 20 seconds delay and that CBS has to pay half a million fine for showing one?

Methinks they are considered as frontal nudity by American society - seens as something sexual and arousing towards the general populace. Thus why you don't seen many women going topless aroudn. INdecency, exposure, blah blah.

Because some women's breasts are offensive, and some of us just don't want to see that.

What if it had been Roseanne instead of Janet? We don't need those visuals.

To bastardize/paraphrase a quote from South Park:

'Horrific, deplorable violence is okay, as long as people aren't naked and don't say any naughty words.'

That pretty much sums up the status quo of the MPAA and the FCC stance on what is acceptible viewing, and most of American society is either so gullible that they buy into it, or too lazy to do anything to change it.

Watch "The People vs. Larry Flint". It has many well articulated arguments on the subject.

Simply put, America is a country heavily influenced by its religious groups that feel the need to force everyone else to abide by their beliefs. These kinds of things are usually allowed on the basis of it being "for the children", since parents are too lazy to accept personal responsibility.

Really doesn't bother me. Woo, you might not be able to see breasts sometimes. I'm hardly crying into my cornflakes.

No one here is whining because they can't see boobs on TV. Dutchy was asking why people here are so against it that a 1 second slip on TV can incur a .5 million dollar fine.

Half a million dollars is the punitive equivalent of a drop in the bucket.

Also, is the anti-american gossip mill running so slowly that we're having to recycle 8 month old scandals? :huh

If you want to see boobs, just pay a hooker, geez.

Charley is right about one thing: 500 G's is chump change to any of the major broadcasting networks. Heck, it's cheap publicity.

I personally don't feel hooters need to be all over TV but it is silly how much stuff in the US is restricted.

I do enjoy those shows on HBO where they show whats on regular TV over in other countries, quite fun!

Aust SBS shows hooters all the time. And, it's not like boobs arent availible everywhere.

BTW, when I read thread I expected to see someone had posted boobs. Thread does not deliver. Parent post modded -1 Misleading :mad

Personally, I really don't care one way or another. If a broadcasting company wants to show tits, then let them. On the other hand, if there are people who don't want to see it, they should be able to vote with their remote. Eventually, you'll hit a saturation point. Not even sex will sell by itself, despite what some think.

How much is restricted? (I'll do my best to present this without setting off the censors.)

About the only thing that's restricted from being shown on regular TV is lower frontal male nudity. ABC will show a woman completely nude and place a warning that the movie contains adult material and content, parental discretion is advised. However, if a male is completely nude, his privates are blurred; the film is editted so that the area is not shown at all, or the scene is cut.

America is perhaps the only country that has backassward views on nudity and sex. We're taught from very young ages that its taboo - something bad - that never should be seen nor talked about. Yet it's glorified and falsified in films and tv.

One can turn on their satellite or cable and subscribe to Skinemax and watch softcore porn. You can see a woman getting raped, beaten, and brutally killed on "Lifetime, television for women" (I really hate this station - I've dubbed it the victim's network).

And people go into a frenzy over a tit. Palease!

The FCC is screwed up, IMO. They'll allow the words b*tch, damn and a-- to be said - but they'll bleep out God and hole.

They'll show terrorists blowing up buildings in films shown on tv, gun-crazed whackos offing people for the fun of it on the streets in the city for some gang rivalry junk but they'll go ape over a nipple.

Gimme a break.

As for the one who stated that parents are too lazy -

Some are, yes. Not all. I've always monitored what my children watch until they reach the age of around fifteen - sixteen years old. I'm a strict parent and I have to be. I've raised my children well and I can proud of that.

There are many, many parents out there though, that do not have the luxury of being a stay-at-home parent. Many parents are working two jobs just to make ends meet; so their children are sent to daycare, latchkey kids, or with a teenage babysitter who doesn't care what the kid watches as long as they aren't bothering them.

Then there comes a time in everyone's lives where one must take and accept responsibility for themselves. Hence, why I ease up on my kids with certain things when they reach certain ages. (I also become more strict on other things at certain ages).

Like Dan the Man said - you don't have to watch it. Which is precisely what I've decided do six years ago. Stop watching tv. It's very rare if my fiance and I watch television. When we do, we're tuning in things like the World Poker Tour, Celebrity Poker, Travel Channel, History Channel, etc.

We have satellite, but HBO, Skinemax, Starz - all a waste of money. Everything they show on those channels we've seen already (some of them too many times) and any movie that piques our interest from trailers, we just go to the theater to see it or buy it on DVD.

A boob is nothing but a mound of fatty flesh. I find no offense at seeing a boob on tv or in the movies. I find it more offensive to depict rape and violent crimes than nudity.

Maybe that's just me.

This is a more pressing matter. Why is this crappy channel still on the air?

Good question. My mom watches Lifetime like 24/7 and some of the shows they air... it's no wonder my mom is paranoid about a lot of things. (For instance... one time she was watching this movie on Lifetime that basically was about this girl who met some guy on the internet and decided to meet him and then was kidnapped and raped and what have you. Upon finishing watching it, she turned to my sister and I and said "I hope you don't talk to strangers on the internet, or ever meet them."

Sometimes she takes some of those movies way too seriously. Of course, she didn't take into account the girl was like 12 and somewhat depicted as completely clueless. :rolleyes

Here, here! However, if the women who tune in to this channel would stop - maybe they'd put an end to it. I'm so glad my daughters don't watch anything on that channel. One is old enough to decide for herself what to watch (she's going to be 17 in a few weeks) but I have an 8 year old whom is not old enough. I really don't want her viewing programs that depict women as victims 24/7. I'm so glad she's still into Lilo & Stitch :)

I remember seeing Janet's boob and hearing someone shout out; "No, she didn't!" Then I thought, damn, if the kids had been watching this it would have been a bit embarrasing. And that's about it! A giggle from the 5 year old and the world still spins. Yeah, a boob isn't appropriate for a Superbowl halftime show, but the "outrage" over Janet's 40 year old, although still impressive, boob was a joke. We're all safer now because fines have been handed out! :rolleyes

Lifetime: The Women Good, Men Bad Network!

My mother-in-law watches it constantly and my wife loves it as well. Yes, Tori Spelling and Melissa Gilbert should still have the opportunity to work, but why must I suffer? My most recent Lifetime brush with death? I was at the in-laws while they watched a classic Lifetime flick in which a woman suffers through some kind of "loss of child" trauma. Nothing groundbreaking for Lifetime, but here's the kicker. She decends into this warped fantasy in which her child is still ALIVE! This goes on for YEARS! The whole family humors her, the husband, the nanny, and the poor surviving children who probably secretly wish they could join their dead sister in the next world. So of course I'm laughing hysterically while this is all playing out. I can't believe anything so bizarre could end up on any network, even MenBadTime. Eventually it looks as if the wife finally comes to her senses. As a joke I say; "Watch, they'll probably have a funeral!" And lo and behold, these sick freaks are out in front of a mound saying goodbye to an imaginary child. The husband, the kids, and the nanny are all watching Mommy pay last respects to a child that never existed. I almost reached for my father-in-law's gun to put us all out of our misery. The only thing that saved their lives that day was my knowledge that my story would eventually end up on Lifetime with Ralph Maccio as myself. I just couldn't give LIfetime or Maccio the satisfaction.:x

That's the cruel conundrum about it isn't it?

That horrible channel drives us to violence, but if we succumb to it, then it only provides them with fuel for more crappy feminazi movies, doesn't it?

LOL @ JediEb's story, but you know they'd change it from you saving everyone from Lifetime to you were watching the Playboy channel or something.

But to play Devil's Advocate, there's no shortage of naked boobies (or depictions thereof) in the world, so why is it wrong to think there are places where it's not appropriate to show em?
