Shortly. It was to be part of the ongoing Final Cut series in which I rid us of HE the Baron de Nostradaum, but I thought it would be an ideal opportunity to bring us together as a group.

The Ball will take place in our own forums, to keep it "in the family", the machinitions revolving around the removal of the good Baron will take place in a separate in Storytelling. I plan to move through my guests and take those I need to talk with aside (in the second thread) to deal with the business side of things- that way things should be kept clear. I will obviously link the two threads.

Does that sound alright?

1. Is anyone else dying to do a getting ready piece? If no-one is I will close of the intro part, though I can keep it going for a while yet.

2. Does anyone have anything specific their character would want to do at this event? (eg: button hole a minister, talk to a specific person) If abyone is say so here so we make sure it happens.

If you want to come I don't mind. It just occured to me that, given the sort of men they are, your characters might not be happy to leave the front for a big party when the NR might attack us. On the otherhand, having a few of the high profile officers from Bestine leave the front for a party might show them we aren't scared.

I think the idea is that now Telan is at your house you two talk to each other. In between I enter the thread as my main character and do a bit of groveling to my daughter. After that I start the main part off by entering the ball room.

Thus the order is this:

you, me, telan, me, general posting starts.

Idealy what I would like to happen is to three or four posts of a conversation between two people and then three or four from another pair. As if the reader is moving through the gathering. At intervals I will take people aside to talk to them in "The Final Cut Part II".

The estate of Duchess Loklorien S'Ilancy fit every bit the aristocratic position that woman had attained. On either side of the stone-lined entrance way were shimmering pools, fountains sprouting from their centres. Fauna of the rarest and most beautiful kind adorned every square centimeter. Though the Xucphra City skyline cropped up over the tall trees, the secluded property was as serene as it could have been anyway on Thyferra.


Grand Admiral Desaria stepped out of the limousine that had completed its trek along the entrance and now waited in front of the Duchess' foyer. A pair of sloops sat ahead, members of the Imperial Guards division upon them, an armored car behind holding a squad of heavily armed soldier in it. It was the smallest escort the Grand Admiral could agree to - - - other members of the General Staff not to mention his own Staff wanted little less than an entire regiment with him.


" Her Grace the Duchess S'Ilancy!" announced the yeoman as a pair of servants parted the orante wooden doors at the end of the entry hall. The mentioned lady stepped out into the cool evening air and forced any mention of Nature's beauty around them to pale in comparison.


Were the Supreme Commander of the Imperial Navy any other race than Centaurian, he would have been doubtless driven by his eyes to fawn over the Duchess. Even as a Centaurian, he could give great measure to her attractiveness. No such measure could be given, however. He was the consumate gentleman.


The Baron closed his eyes and bowed deeply. Uprighting himself a moment later, he opened the door from whence he had come and motioned the Lady in.

Right, that's the prologue out of the way. Now for Chapter One and then all the fun that follows. This is going to be fun with rules, though, because what I am aiming for is quite complicated. Some of what I am about to say is quite obvious, I'm not being patronising just methodical.

Everyone is welcome to post in this thread.

If your character can realistically be expected to be on Thyferra then post as them.

If they wouldn't be on Thyferra for whatever reason, or wouldn't be invited (see the first post of this and the thread) you are quite welcome to NPC someone who would be. They don't even have to be someone you use again or someone from the same branch as you- it can be anyone within reason.

This is the Imperial Chancellery. There are battalions of Crimson Guards patrolling the grounds, covering the doors and windows etc. There are security men on my protection detail and on the details of my ministers who will be in the Ball Room and elsewhere. I think we are bright enought to understand that a roving sith or gunman couldn't get inside. (I mention this because I have had at least one thread ruined by such antics.)

I have already said what I want when it comes to posting and the effect I want to produce. To that end I would like people to follow these guidelines:

When two PC' s start talking IC I would like them to post consecutively.

I'll allow at least three posts for every snatch of conversation. There is no upper limit per se, but I would prefer that conversations not go on too long. If I think they are going on too long I will step in with a device to move things along.

This is a high society event and it is one being stage managed to a certain extent. Bear that in mind whilst posting.

Finally I will be taking people aside from time to time, this will involve me linking to another thread. If you want to know what is going on OCC wise please follow that thread as well, but no-one ICly gets to know anything unless they are invited in by Anar. There are going to be men on the door of the side room so don't think about bursting in or anything like that.

I think that is it for rules (though they are more like guidlines!). Within them anything reasonable goes.

If you aren't familiar with this concept I shall explain. At formal some formal occasions the host and their spouse will meet all their guests in a receiving line. Essentially everyone lines up, when they get to the front the host says hello and everyone exchanges kind words and handshakes. Then the guests move off.

In the thread I think three posts will be enough for this. Each of you enters (1) I say hello and so forth (2) you respond and then make your way into the ball (3).

The Crimson Guard is controlled by the civillian authorities. If the identity of the Grand Inquisitor was a secret then it would be a suitable cover for her. Since it is, apparently, not a secret there is no need for such charades so you may forget I said it.

There is no such requirement. The Grand Inquisitor is indeed a very public person, a name known to every Imperial citizen.

I'm still working out how she feels. Don't worry, it won't show up in her work. Serena is perfectly loyal to the Empire. I just never really show what she's thinking in all the other RPs I've done with her... I don't think... Anyway, she was just a little steamed in that post, she'll get over it.
