View Full Version : What are you doing for EP. III premiere?

Cardinal Aiyalin
Aug 8th, 2004, 07:13:31 AM
I was wondering if people are doing anything interesting for the premiere of EP III..

I was thinking of heading to Indy for the last Celebration, but then I realized it was being held a full month before RotS (he he, I love fun acronyms). Then I was thinking it may be neat to go to NY and wait in line there!!

What are you guys planning? I need some good ideas.. And do you think it's weird that I'm actually excited about taking a vacation and waiting in line to see a movie? :)

Considering how reality and hindsight has damaged the prequels (And it also doesnt help TPM is just plain unbearly awful), I'm going to vote with my wallet and say "George, the prequels sucked. I dont care if Vader's turning up. Ep III is not worth my money"

And most likely give the whole thing a miss.

There is a thread over at Meras. Check it out: Ep III Meet Up (http://meras.org/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=6995)

Since the thread is long, I will sum up. Originally, everyone was going to Vegas. Now it may be possibly Vegas and Los Angeles. I have a strong notion Vegas will be cancelled altogether, and there will be a meet-up in Los Angeles only.

I still want them to make shadows of the empire... that was a cool story idea, IMO. Or something not main stream SW, you know like something new. Don't get me wrong I love the trilogy, the last two have been, well exceptable, IMO; But I want something fresh, like an RP I would read here, you know?

Ohhhh, Vegas or LA.. Sounds fun! I would LOVE to go to Vegas -- hello, gambling AND Star Wars?! But, then again, I am a big baby when it comes to losing money (however, not spending money.. I'm ok with that :) ).

I think I'll restart the Meras thread here.. I don't feel like registering an account over there right now..

Anyone else going to either Vegas or LA?

Mark.. Oh come on now.. It won't be THAT bad :)

I am one of the stubborn mule hold-outs still wanting to go to Las Vegas.

Something about excessive drinking, dollar craps, and star wars just seems right.

That, and I'm going to send Sonja on the bender of her lifetime.

I'd still like to go to Vegas for it, if I can get the time off. More to meet folks from the boards than to see the movie, though. And, where else can you stay for fifteen bucks a night in a room with free cable and HBO? Nowhere else I know of.

What is a "bender"? I know I used to be able to, but I can't drink you under the table anymore, Charley. I drink like once every month, maybe every two months. So, one or two drinks makes my nutty.

But that doesn't mean I won't be the funness.

I am glad there are people still holding out for Vegas. It warms my heart. ;)

I don't mean to take up room, but I think a third thread should be started, less all this conversation. It should have the locations, dates, who is (planning on) going, and updates regarding just vital info.

If you're up for this, I will start said thread. First, post where you're planning on going, and if you're planning on going. Right now, just say "L.A.", "Vegas" or anything else.

I plan to don my full dress uniform: jackboots, olive breeches, 3-button single breasted coat, white shirt, tie, visor-officer's cap, Knight's Cross, and enjoy the film.

Then again, me=Imperial, so as long as I see a Star Destroyer since Im suffering from 2-films worth of withdrawal, Ill be fine. Though the Acclamators did it for me, it wasnt enough to make up for TPM.

I'm hoping to catch the midnight show, although with a new baby, I'll have to see if I can actually swing it. For Ep. II, I caught the midnight show, and then the first three shows later that day - don't know if I'll be able to do something similar this time, but I'm gonna try...

Better start bookign now. Vegas is one of those places that gets booked a year in advance. (Holly and I checked some possible places already, and they were sold out :\ )

As for me, the less traveling and money spending, the better...

L.A.

(I'm not saying LA's cheap, but since I live here, I don't have to worry about finding a place to stay, packing, or searching the universe for a decent theater cause I know all the theaters in town and which ones are worth going to see Ep 3 at.)

Figrin D'an
Aug 9th, 2004, 05:24:52 PM
Vegas was(is) a cool idea, but being realistic, we should have had the major details hammered out well before now, and already have made room reservations. Like feline-lady said, Vegas books up more than a year in advance because it is such a high-profile and popular yet cheap spot for vacations.

I would have liked to have gone there, but at this point, another major city (LA, Chicago, New York, etc) would be more feasible. However, provided the decided-upon location isn't something completely bizarre, I'm willing to go where people will be.

What hotel did you call? Us peeps in CO visit Vegas regularly (because its so close) and we've never had a problem booking anything but shows (like the Cirque de Soleil). I can call some hotels tomorrow at work, but iit's hard to ask for availability when no one is committing to anything.

COMMIT PEOPLE.

Lilaena De'Ville
Aug 9th, 2004, 06:30:21 PM
We *had* a pretty good group NEARLY committed to Las Vegas, but then when I started looking and asking for people to commit they all started backing out.

So - who knows. I didn't want to be the only one going to Vegas.

The Best Idea would probably be to have a few places where people are going to be, and make people commit to one or the other.

If one is L.A. and the other is Vegas, however, it seems silly to have so many people so close together without *getting* together. And if the majority of the votes are "wherever everyone else is" then someone needs to step up and make the decision for them. ;)

If Vegas is still an option, I'd suggest making getting a commitment from people soon and get whatever room reservations may still be available, because the time frame for this get-together is likely going to overlap main event of the 2005 World Series of Poker. As soon as the schedule for that event is set, rooms in Vegas are going to be impossible to find.

Aug 10th, 2004, 09:58:39 AM
Well, I've already commited to LA, regardless of whether ppl show up or not.

I'd like it if some showed up, and I've even offered to house ppl. But ppl do what they must/want.

Just let me know if you're commited to coming to LA (and you don't have to commit now as getting things in LA are pretty easy all the way up to the event date), and if you are, I'll see to it you have tickets for the midnight show, first in line to see the midnight show (or at least close to first in line), a roof over your head, food in your belly, and a bucket-load of fun. :)

I thought about that, but Joe isn't wild about Vegas AT ALL. So trying to convince him to go would be like pulling teeth, arms, and legs all at once. Too much of a hassle for something so minor. (Unless I could get us rooms at the Las Vegas Hilton where the ST Expereince is... that'd probably be the ONLY way to convince him to go. But last I checked, they were sold out.) :\

Rie - I'm convinced there was something wrong with the websites we were looking at. I can call the Hilton if you want...?

If we both (both couples) decided to spend two nights (friday and saturday maybe?) up in Vegas, since Ty and I will be renting a car and flying out from Vegas... no wait that wouldn't work. I was going to say you could ride up with us, but then you'd be stuck there. :p

Charley.. You're definite for Vegas.. well, what the hell.. Me too. Definite for Vegas!

I'm looking to go from the 18th to the 22nd of May. Unfortunately, it's the end of the school year so I can't stay any longer.. But it is from Wednesday until Sunday, so we'll be there for long enough. My husband (hereafter referred to by his name, Shannon) has always wanted to go to Vegas, so this'll be great!

Holly... are you going to LA midnight or Vegas midnight? I think your last post and a previous [post has somewhat confused me...

imported_Eve
Aug 10th, 2004, 05:53:15 PM
I suggest we stay on the strip where everything is. If you don't, you'll end up paying for cab fare, and other travel expenses that will make up the extra room fare anyway. That, and no one has to worry about driving anywhere; cause we're going to be drinking.

I just skimmed New York, New York last night. It said $80/night. I didn't look to far into it.

I suggest everyone see a travel agent. They can hook you up with the best deals. Last time I went, I paid 400-something for four nights and airfare staying in New York, New York. It also included cab fare to and from the hotel. Bigger hotels usually include breakfast buffets in the room rates.

Also, the more we can be there during the week, as oppossed to the weekend, the cheaper it is. Weekend is more money as it is more desirable.

How does this sound:

OPTION ONE (4 days, 3 nights):
Arrive Wednesday, May 18th
Depart Saturday, May 21st

OPTION TWO (4 days, 3 nights):
Arrive Tuesday, May 17th
Depart Friday, May 20th

To revise Jen's list, and to include roomming arrangement:
VEGAS HOPPERS:
Sonja and Brian
Charley
Fig
Fett (he'll come or he'll be sorry!)
Holly and Hubby (later) - Maybe arrive the 18th morning/midday?
Rie and Hubby - (later) - Arrive with Holly and Hubby.

Does anyone know? Is Vegas Mountain Time?
