Thunderbird, a $70M production turns to be a bomb of epic proportions. Studio heads are likely to roll on this one! Harrald & Kumar does terrible, worse than I thought. Manchurian candidate does lukewarm business. Catwoman expectedly drops like a rock. Bad drop for bourne supremacy, but it has a solid first week as foundation, so it might not be that after all. No big surprises or anything special except..
The Village! Great first day result there. Still has a shot at 60M. Although, the WOM is terrible right now, so it might have a bad weekend multiplier. Nevertheless, its yet another 50M+ opening. We seem to get those every week now :)

Thunderbirds is a huge bomb, that really hurts Universal. The Village will do over 50 but the WOM might hurt it. I liked it but I suspect a lot of people will be disapointed.

Yes, the first reactions to The Village have been fairly negative. Lots of people got disappointed. I think it will fall hard next weekend. It will pass 100M with little effort, but should have difficulty doing better than 150.
Good thing I looked at the crowd reports for Thunderbird, or my score would have really crashed. Although, Harald & Kumar is probably going to mess up my score this weekend anyway. Thunderbird reminds me of Pluto Nash. The concept is narrower than a purple striped elephant dressed in a clown suit dancing macarena inside a phone booth in the city of Tokyo.

Except everybody knew Pluto Nash was going to crash before it debuted. Thuderbirds nobody knew.

Well, not everybody. I remember people back then were predicting $20 million opening :)
Thunderbirds nobody knew
.. and least of all, Universal it seems :lol How they gave greenlights for that kind of budget is a mystery to me. By looking at the trailer, you can see it cost some money to make. What I can also see, its directed at kids, more specifically the segment watching crap like spykids 3D and cat in the hat. Difference being, this one did not klick. I guess it fell under the radar or somehow did not appeal to those.

The Manchurian Candidate $7,600,000 ( +25.4% )
Spider-Man 2 $3,539,000 ( +39.6% )
Catwoman $2,378,000 ( +18.8% )

Thunerbirds $1,040,000 ( +13% )

A -16.9% drop on a saturday suggests The Village is frontloaded and got some terrible WOM. Should be interesting to see how much it drops next weekend.

That is worse drop than Harry Potter had back in June (of course that movie was frontloaded more because of the combo of the midnight showings and die hards rushing out first day to see it, The villiage doesn't have that) About Thunderbirds yeah I see Spy Kids rip off from the trailer (the first Spy kids at least was a good fun movie) this looked awful.
