In order to play back the movie properly, I recommend that you uninstall any codecs or codec packs that you have installed and download the DefilerPak. It has everything you need.

For proper subtitle support, I recommend using Zoom Player. During the movie, just right click on the video, go to the "Stream Selection" menu and select stream 5 - English. This will display subtitles only during the Alien speaking parts (ie, Jabba's Palace).

I'm considering downloading and sharing a 2 CD rip of Return of the Jedi with everyone here, but I'd like to garner a few reactions first. Do you think it's taboo to pirate SW material? Do you think it might somehow attact unwanted attention here (unlikely)? Is there enough interest for me to even bother? :)

I'm just going to wait to buy it. I haven't got any really burning urge to see the changes. Although I did just check that clip - and ew, why are the beams not white! :\

I'm going to buy it even though I don't care for the new changes. The quality is absolutely fantastic; It looks like a movie released maybe 3 years ago, not 20.

Here are some comparison screenshots between the Laserdisc version and the DVD.

Now, you'll notice that it isn't simply just correcting the washed out look of the original - there is far more detail on everything, especially the sand dunes.

WOW. That is some pretty amazing work right there.

It is so amazing. Watching the movie I want to take alot of screncaps because it's so pretty. The changes are going to bother me, but.. I can't resist pretty Star Wars. :(

I really want them to release the orginal orignal trilogy in the same way.

yeah, the color correction and restoration sure is phenomenal, save for at the ewok celebration at the end, where it's way too dark. but christ, I didn't know that much vibrant color and definition existed in Return of the Jedi.

I don't have the DVD-R, but from talking to a couple of people, it even has the Behind the Scenes material from Episode III. I call that pretty convincing evidence that it's not a hoax.

The picture appears to depict Vader's "birth". You can see that his hands are shackled to the table he's on.

Threepio looks taller in the new DVD version. :p

And R2 thinner. I'm pretty sure it's just that the caps are not the same height ;)

the laserdisc captures just always got the aspect ratio wrong for some retarded reason.

it's the behind the scenes stuff that's gonna be the real item in that boxed set, i wish i could get my hands on that. specifically the ep 3 preview.

Well, of course I am going to download it to take a sneak peek. And yes I am going to buy the DVD set :)

The level of detail and color in some of the shots I seen have really impressed me.

As far as SW downloads taboo.. nope, not in my eyes at least. If youre a fan you are likely to buy these DVDs anyway.

The torrent is up. If you have the same files, please feel free to help seed.

Edit: I'm not 100% that the torrent is working properly. Can someone attempt to download it and let me know if it works or not?

When attempting to download torrent, it says "You don't have permission to download this file"

Tell you what, hang on. I'm moving it to a different tracker as soon as I find a suitable one.

Goodie :)

Btw, is the DVD rip really at 4.1GB? If so, I might want to wait it out for a reencode. I just noticed it was up at the SA bittorrent forums.

That's for the DVD-R. This is a 2CD XviD rip that totals ~1.4gb

Although I generally prefer movie rips to be in 600-800MB territory, thats a lot better :)

I'm looking for a public tracker that A) Isn't at Suprnova levels of popularity and B) Encrypts filenames into hash infos. If anyone knows of one, please PM/IM me.

I have "acquired" this as well... it's probably the exact same screener rip, so I can seed it too, if desired.

Except for the shot with the thinner sabre, it looks all good. Jabba looks more real now. Aurabesh lettering.. I like it. The difference in image detail and color is astonishing.
