That's kind of sad. In my opinion, Shrek 2 was the perfect example of why Hollywood needs to stop making cash-in sequels on every succesful movie. But I suppose you can't argue with numbers like that.

Well I thought the movie was great honestly it wasn't my favorite of the summer but it was still a fun film, I am still surprised it will be in the top 3 of all time. It has no chance at #2 though at least.

I didn't like Shrek 2 much at all, so this news makes Jinny very very mad.

I wanna know who's been seeing this movie a bazillion times, is it kids? Or who else might it be?

Kids I assume, sure I would rather see Harry Potter take this (as it was my favorite movie this summer) but that wasn't meant to be. I don't care though it made plenty IMO. I liked Shrek but I am surprised by how much it made I figured 300 at the most.

Never saw the original, but loved this :D

To be honest, I think this is more a testament to how much ticket prices have gone up in the past 4-5 years than to actual viewings. It's an impressive total, but just as a major film making $100 million is no big deal anymore, the significance of hitting the $300 million and $400 million milestones has been reduced.

Well it is still hard to hit 300, I think 100 is meaningless now though I agree with you there. 150 is now the equivuilent of 100, and 250, 200 these days. I guess 300 would be like 250 now. Still over 400 is amazing I think kids just ate this movie up honestly.

I thought it was great, though I'm very suprised it reached this high. I was hoping it wouldn't pass TPM but that seems a foregone conclusion now.

At least until the Special Edition re-release :)

Wow, this is nuts. I don't even think the folks at Dreamworks would have predicted (or even hoped for) this type of performance.

Very surprised, actually. Yeah, it was a fun film, but not as fun as the original. Amazing it's gonna gross north of $430M. Unlike some people here said, $400M is still an awful lot of money. $100M is not that spectacular anymore indeed, but $400M is huge. Still very rare for a movie to rake in.

I remember when Spiderman made 300 million and everyone was so excited and awed. Now, we kinda just shrug at the news of a 300 million dollar movie.

Actually, spiderman made 403 million.

300 million is still a strong achievment today, taking into account ticket inflation. Only 6 movies ever made more than 400 million. Adjusted for inflation, Shrek 2 is about to enter the top 30 domestic grossing of all time. Also, lets not forget with the more pluralised entertainment industry, the competition is harder than it was back in the days of ET.

Adjusted for inflation, yes of course ET is the bigger box office hit, does not make Shrek 2s performance sad in any way. It just happens to be a good movie which appeals to a lot of people, thus made a lot of money :)

I am 100% certain it willl pass ET. It will topple TPM in less than a week from now

I agree with you ,today there is so many more form of entertainment that it is still a big acomplishment. Where will end up on the WW charts Yog? I know its at 750 right now, I am guessing 850-900 might fall short of 900, though, since it opened so poorly in Japan it made less than 2 million there in the first weekend. Harry Potter made more in its 4 weekend there so that shows something. Although Harry is just very popular in Japan, I can't even say why.

This $430+ is pretty impressive when you consider Spidey 2 isn't going to reach $400. I thought Spidey 2 was much better, but Shrek 2 was definitely more kid friendly.

Yeah that is why Shrek 2 is #1, heck it is going to be #1 WW too, I thought Potter would have that hands down (its going to be a solid #2 nothing to cry about). As you said its more kid friendly than Spiderman or Harry (this one was a lot of darker so I think parents might have not taken their kids)

Getting really close now. It should kick E.T. out of the #3 spots within a week.
