Around the world in 80 days looks like a huge bomb with a capitol H. Harry Potter is still dropping fast, although maybe not as dramatic as the weekend before. Although, I have to say the domestic performance looks disappointing compared to the International results. Riddick falls like a rock. Dodgeball did better than most expected, and Terminal a little lower than what some expected. Other than that, I see no big surprises.

Oh, and I guess Raising Helen gets a (dis)honorable mention for dropping 62% from the last friday. Heh

That movie is going to mess up my score :x

80 Days is the biggest bomb of the Summer, it appears. I doubt it will make 30 million in he U.S. Harry will do better on Saturday should make like 17-19 million which is a lot better drop than last weekend. It should still make it to 250 don't know if it can beat COS. Still its overseas numbers have been unbelivable it will almost triple the U.S. numbers. I just think Harry is more popular overseas also there are two other things to consider. First the competition has been rough on it. June is just hard to open a movie because it is squashed between Memorial Day and the 4th. Really they should have grabbed the Pre Memorial day weekend before Shrek2 did, if they had I bet Harry Would have made more than it has. Hopefully they will learn and do that with the 5 movie which is squedule to open in the summer of 2007. Also the film is darker which could effect it more here, although that may have no effect. It is sure not effecting overseas.

Dodgeball did better than I even thought, and Terminal man this is Spielberg's worst opening in a lot time and it might be a huge disapointment considering the reviews haven't been that great for it. And 80 days is defintely a bomb biggest one of this year. Decent for HP maybe the estimates are low, still it should come close to the second movie in this country.

Amistad in '97 had a smaller opening(albeit in limited relase). I think Terminal will find some legs and flirt with 90M or so. This was not a high concept movie, so I'm not sure it was ever thought to be a HUGE hit. I know I didn't think it would do much more than 100M or so.

Well it is different for Spielberg that is sure. I forgot about Amistad so yeah that would be the lowest. It might do 90 hopefully the WOM isn't as bad as some of the reviews.

I know I'm gonna see it, just didn't get a chance this weekend. Even though Hanks films usually do rather well, they rarely open big. Now 18.7M is a very modest opening, but Hanks is good for a leggy release - not an opening weekend.

Typically anyways.

The film will probably end up grossing 100M or more. It's Tom Hanks after all.

I personally think Tom Hanks is starting to fade a little bit in terms of being a box office magnet. The real stars nowadays who seem to consistantly draw big money to every movie are IMO Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise. Maybe not in terms of legs, but for the final gross for sure.
