It's that time again; I'm looking for help in the electronic world. I've checked multiple review sites, checked Newegg, looked at company websites - everything. And everything i've looked at has some kind of flaw that really makes me wonder if the hassle is worth getting the player. So what I wanna know is, who has an Mp3 player that they are satisfied, or who has recommendations. Btw, my budget is $140 and im looking for at least 256 MB memory. Thanks a bunch.

Mp3 cd player and re-writable CDs, if you're too cheap to buy regular ones every time you want to put more mp3s on it.

That's way under $140

Not only that, but you'll have much more than 256mb of storage. Really, portable MP3 players are still terribly impractical.

You can get a diskman that plays MP3's ranging from $45 - $190 it all depends on how many features you want.

I have a panisonic MP3/CD player. Its not very fancy, and was only $45. It does however, have over 48 hours of playback.

Yeah i guess that's what ill be getting, a mp3/cd player. I really wanted a MP3 player though just because of its size, and not having to worry about CD's, so I could go running with it and things like that.

Now my questions is, after looking at some Sony MP3/CD players; what is ATRAC all about and how is it possible to fit over 400 songs on a single cd? Would i be sacrificing a lot of quality in the music?

I have my MP3's set to 56 bitrate. on avarage that makes each file 0.5meg per min of music. and Unless you are playing it at REALLY loud volume, I doubt you would notice the diffrence. At least I don't.

Sounds nice, now which one would you recommend for my budget?

I'm a Panasonic fan, so I suggest a Panasonic MP3/CD player. I've always had great luck with Panasonic portable stuff.

Yeah everything on my PC right now is 128 kbps, so I'm not really sure how anything lower would sound.

... You don't use 56 for anything at all. Not even for an answering machine quality message.

Darth: You can probably go running with most of the MP3/CD players out there. They come standard with like 10 minutes of shock protection. And I doubt you'll need more than 1-2 CDs to fit all of the songs you want to take with you.

Well, I'm rather partial to my MZ-R700 MiniDisc player/Recorder, mainly because A) I can record music from practically any source, B) It has never, ever given me any problems, not even skipping whilst jogging, and C) I just love to play with the little discs. ;)

I'm usually not one to link to Penny Arcade strips, but this is just too appropriate: http://www.penny-arcade.com/view.php3?date=2003-05-28&res=l

(swearing in link, yadda yadda)

I have a number of 56 bit and a number of 360 bit, on my computer at home with the quality of speekers I have I can not hear the diffrence between the two. if I go much lower that 56 then it just sucks.
