Dreams of Home (Open)

[Kieran Devaneaux]

Kieran Devaneaux stood quietly on the balcony of the Jedi Temple, staring out into the cityscape, deep in thought. He was thinking of the place he lived in on Deralia, the ships he had been on over the course of seven years, and trying to remember anything about his home before - the place he could not remember. His hands gripped the railing tightly, and his eyes were closed....

Kieran's eyes opened in a richly-decorated room. He glanced around the room, and noticed a red glare outside the window. He looked out the window, and the city outside was on fire. "Kieran!" he heard a man - his father? - shout from another room. "Come on! We have to get out of here!"

"What's going on, Father?"

"No time for that! We must go! NOW!"

Kieran nodded and followed his father into another room, and headed for an open door, where he could see a landing pad with the family shuttle waiting for them. "Come on, Kieran! LET'S GO!!!" his father shouted. Kieran glanced up and watched as the concussion missiles smashed into the doorway directly above him...

The feeling knocked Kieran back from the balcony and against the wall, sliding down it to sit down on the ground. That had been worse than he had thought - but that had also been the first memory earlier than his sixteenth year that he could remember...

[Jacen]

Jacen was walking around the Jedi temple and saw a young boy standing out on the balcony. Being new himself, he wanted to make some freinds and went over to see if the oter would be willing to talk.

"Hello. My name is Jacen," the young teenager said as he walked over to the man.

[Kieran Devaneaux]

Kieran looked up, surprised and somewhat irritated at this newcomer. The guy seemed polite enough, though. "I'm Kieran," he said as he helped himself to his feet. "I'm kinda new here..."

[Jacen]

"Oh,you are new here too? Fancy that...I thought I was the newest guy here." Jacen said as the wind whipped his ponytail around. He tried staying back towards the door, as he didn't like heights all that much.

[Kieran Devaneaux]

Kieran chuckled. "I was just accepted as an initiate. I was also accepted as an officer in the NRSF....I am undergoing command training there."

[Jacen]

"I see. Well congradulations on your acceptance to both."

[Kieran Devaneaux]

"And how about you?" Kieran inquired. "You were accepted too, I would presume....you are here, after all." He smiled.

[Jacen]

"Oh yes. I was only accepted about a week ago. I am supposed to be waiting on a Master to teach me. Until then I am just wondering about the living grounds and the bar. Sometime's I'll go down to the training ground to watch the others and maybe even try out a few of the simpler exercises on my own, but I haven't had much luck yet."

[Kieran Devaneaux]

Kieran nodded. "The waiting for a master is a test in and of itself, I think....a test of our patience, or perhaps of our ability to learn." He shrugged. "We learn 'til we die, I suppose."

[Jacen]

Jacen nodded. "I never thought of that, but I guess you're right. We do don't we? So anyways, you're obviously here to be a Jedi, but why?"

[Kieran Devaneaux]

"I seem to have an ability to heal...and the freighter captain who brought me here can apparently detect the Force, and he said that was what it was. Also...for more personal reasons. I hope that, with time and training, I can regain my memories."

[Jacen]

"Ohh I see...well you should be a good Jedi with you healing ability. There doesn't seem to be much that I'm good at."

[Kieran Devaneaux]

"Come now, surely you have a skill you can be proud of..."

[Jacen]

"The only thing I can do is tell if people are lying or covering up something."

[Kieran Devaneaux]

"That's important to have," Kieran said with a nod. "As important as an ability to heal people."

[Jacen]

"What good does it do? I'll bet anyone can tell if someone is lying to them."

[Kieran Devaneaux]

"I'm not very good at that, actually," Kieran admitted. "It's more of a 50-50; sometimes I can tell, other times I can't."

[Jacen]

"Ohhh..well in any case, that's why we're here right? To improve our skills and help others."

[Kieran Devaneaux]

Kieran nodded. "That is what I always thought the Jedi represented."

[Jacen]

"Then that's what we are here for. So Kieran, where are you from?"

[Kieran Devaneaux]

"Originally, I am not sure....but I've considered Deralia as home. It's out on the Rim...I lived there for a bit before I decided hitching rides on ships going all over the galaxy was a good idea. And look where it landed me." Kieran chuckled. "It's not every day that the guy who pilots your mode of transportation also happens to be Force-sensitive..."

[Jacen]

"I really wouldn't know. I've never been off Coruscant."

[Kieran Devaneaux]

"Really? You're from here originally? Well, all the better - less travel time," he said with a grin.

[Jacen]

"I suppose so. What is space like anyways? I've always wanted to travel."

[Kieran Devaneaux]

"For first-timers, a little bit...unsettling. But there are some very interesting - and even beautiful - places out there. Not saying that Coruscant doesn't have interesting things..."

[Jacen]

"Ohh it is intereting alright, but it does kinda get boring seening the same thins ay i and day out."

[Kieran Devaneaux]

Kieran nodded. "I would imagine....staring at the same cityscapes all the time would tend to get a little repetitive after a while."

[Jacen]

"Yes...that is one of my reasons for joining the Jedi. Atleast here I'll have a chance to travel and see the galaxy."

[Kieran Devaneaux]

"You could have done it like me - offer your services to freighter captains...you don't need to know the physics of a hyperdrive to know how to fix it."

[Jacen]

"Maybe not, but I ever was really good at mechanics. The only thing I ever was really good at was...well..." Jacen let his words trail off as he held up his hand. In it was a small playing card. He flicked his wrist and the whole deck appeared. Again and they were all gone.

[Kieran Devaneaux]

Kieran chuckled. "That could get you a free ride. Depends on who you ask."

[Jacen]

"Well some smugglers offered me a ride once, but I didn't want to end up in imprisonment. It's a good thing I didn't take them up too. Three days later I was looking at the news and there they were getting hauled away. I just had a bad feeling about them from the start."

[Kieran Devaneaux]

"Not all freighters are smugglers these days. Me, I didn't care who it was, as long as I got to where I was going..."

[Jacen]

"I guess everyone does just have different points of veiws. It's refreshing to meet someone who thinks like you."

[Kieran Devaneaux]

Kieran chuckled. "This is probably the longest conversation I've had in fifteen years about anything except what I want to eat in the evening...."

[Jacen]

"Yes I understand what you mea. Since I was a pickpocket I tried to avoid people and stay out of the public eye, but now that life is all over."

[Kieran Devaneaux]

"Pickpocket? You lived in the Lower City?"

[Jacen]

"Well more of the mid class places. An oldcouple that ran a small tapcafe raised me."

[Kieran Devaneaux]

"I remember my past somewhat....I remember having a home, and my parents...my family was rich, I think. We had some sort of nice estate, a family ship....I faintly remember my father yelling for me to come on when the concussion missiles hit. I was knocked out....and I remembered nothing after that until I woke up in the hospital."

[Jacen]

Jacen felt a wave of sympathy for this man. "Ohh...I'm sorry."

[Kieran Devaneaux]

"I do remember how I got this, though." Kieran tapped the scar down the right side of his face. "Three years ago, this really crazy guy wearing red robes....held a staff with some sort of half-circle razor blade at its head. He slashed me across the face with it. It's kinda funny - I got a glance of his face and...he looked a LOT like me."

[Jacen]

"Well...that is certainly new to me. Did you know him?"

[Kieran Devaneaux]

"Never seen the guy before. Except when I glance in the mirror and see me." He chuckled. "No matter....he's long gone now, whoever he was."

[Jacen]

"Wow, that would totally freak me out. What were you doing for him to give you that nasty cut anyways?"

[Kieran Devaneaux]

"I dunno. Just came outta nowhere and gave me a nice slash across the face." Kieran shrugged. "Haven't seen him since."

[Jacen]

Jacen visually shrunk. "Wow it is hard to believe there are people like that in the universe."

[Kieran Devaneaux]

"Believe it, buddy. I used to think that about 90% of the people in this galaxy are self-centered scumbags....and the other 10% are Jedi and old spacers." Kieran shook his head, smiling. "Now I'm not sure what to call that 90%....."

[Jacen]

"Why do you say that? Had your opinion changed about them?"

[Kieran Devaneaux]

"Somewhat....it's not as filled with contempt, but I still dislike most of that other 90%."

[Jacen]

"Ohh I see...actually...no I don't What does contempt mean?"

[Kieran Devaneaux]

"Disgust, looking down on them...that sort of thing." This boy is younger than I guessed, Kieran thought to himself.

[Jacen]

"Ohhh...I know that feling then. A lot of people looked down on me when I was living on the streets."

[Kieran Devaneaux]

"They did then, perhaps....but you appear to have risen above that old life. That's something to be proud of, at least."

[Jacen]

"My old life is were I found my strengths and I'll never forget it. But the thing that now strikes me as odd is that even though they hated me, I held no ill will towards them. I pitied them instead."

[Kieran Devaneaux]

Kieran nodded. "I understand that feeling....I've been there. Though sometimes, I can slip..."

[Jacen]

"Yes hate is a lot easier sometimes. That is one of the reasons I'm glad that I can be so patient."

[Kieran Devaneaux]

"That's always a good thing, I suppose. Patience is a virtue, I hear some folks say."

[Jacen]

"I hear that too. I never really understood how, but I guess if it is, it is."

[Kieran Devaneaux]

"Well, we can't understand everything, I suppose..."

[Jacen]

"I guess not...hey you know what. You are pretty smart."

[Kieran Devaneaux]

"I've been stuck in the spacelanes for nearly a decade. You learn things." Kieran grinned. "You ever think of working on getting your own ship, so you can explore the galaxy some?"

[Jacen]

"I've wanted to, but I've never had the funds to go and do something like that."

[Kieran Devaneaux]

"Well, I could always give you a job on mine....whenever I'm not out on Naval missions, that is."

[Jacen]

"Wow...that would be great. As long as I kept up with my training then I'm sure my master wouldn't mind."

[Kieran Devaneaux]

"Well, I hope my master doesn't mind me HAVING a ship along with a Naval commission...." He chuckled. "Then again, I've noticed a Jedi or two get away with it. Sometimes."

[Jacen]

"Yeah I hope so too."


OOC: Sorry about being so late for this, I just have been having massive writers block.

[Kieran Devaneaux]

"So, you've been here most of - if not all of - your life. What do you think of this place?"

[Jacen]

"Coruscant? Well...it can be interesting I suppose. I mean it has to be for it to be the capital of the galaxy right? I guess after living here though, you just kind of get used to everything."

[Kieran Devaneaux]

"Deralia was the same way," Kieran commented. "Not as populated, mind you, but still."

[Jacen]

"Deralia? What system is that in?" Jacen asked curiously.

[Kieran Devaneaux]

"It's on the Outer Rim, good long ways from here. The first memory I have...that I can think of, anyway."

[Jacen]

"Wow...that is a long way from here. I hope I get to go that far someday."

[Kieran Devaneaux]

"There is not much to see on the Outer Rim if you're into 'civilization'. If you're more into the sights...well, it has its good and bad places."

[Jacen]

"Civilization, pfft. You get enough of that from being here all the time."

[Kieran Devaneaux]

Kieran laughed. "You can never get civil enough. Considering the galaxy has been at war since I've been around..."

[Jacen]

"Yeah, but even war can be civilized when one really doesn't want to geth their hands dirty."

[Kieran Devaneaux]

"True," Kieran conceded, though he himself doubted it...

[Jacen]

Jacen looked at his watch nd jumped up. He was running late. "Well it has been nice talking to you, but it seems that I have to run now."

[Kieran Devaneaux]

"Alright. Don't trip over your feet now." Kieran chuckled as he returned to his thoughts...

[Jacen]

"Ok. I hope to see you later," Jacen called over his shoulder as he turned and ran down the corridor.

[Kieran Devaneaux]

Kieran shook his head, chuckling. "And I thought I was an impatient youth," he said mostly to himself. Yeah, an impatient youth with a hell of a lot of responsibilities on his shoulders, that's what I am, he thought. Then again, who said being a Jedi AND a military officer was easy?
