A record $40.8M estimated for HP3's opening day: http://www.boxofficemojo.com/alltime/days/?page=open&p=.htm

Can HP3 break Spider-Man's $114.8M weekend record? Since HP3 is a sequel, it's more front-loaded, but it'll be interesting to wether it can beat SM.

WOW, I am glad I went high on my predictions this week but maybe I didn't go high enough.

I hope it can. SM doesnt deserve the record.

We saw it today at a 12:30 showing, oddly enough the theatre was only about 1/4 full, and this is one of the bigger & better theaters in the biggest city of VT.

I was very suprised at the small crowd.

Great movie though!

Man I hope it can do it, that is amazing :) 100 million is certain I know that, if it can go up any today it will beat SM's record. Should Make more than Shrek 2 first weekend regardless.

I'm glad that I bought advance tickets for tomorrow, after seeing the numbers for yesterday. It will probably turn out to have been a good move :cool.

I also hope that PoA break's Spider-Man's record. I liked the first Spidey movie, but I don't think it was nearly as good as other people made it out to be, and I wouldn't mind seeing it knocked off its perch :D.

Yeah and POA is so much better than Spiderman, it is just an amazing film :)

I went to buy tickets for a noon show tommorow and my theatre was sold out of every single showtime for saturday (and they are showing it on 2 screens) they had sold out 10 showtimes for the movie.

I am not sure how well it did in the other 2 theatres in town but with the major theatre sold out, I am sure people flocked to the other theatres.

Well it still beat the original film by 2 million that in itself is great. Hopefully the great WOM will help it from here on.

I have to admit to being a little bummed that somebody somewhere had botched up the estimates...when I received my mid-weekend projections email from Box Office Mojo, the prediction for the weekend was $116 million. So when I got back from the movie, checked the net, and saw that the actual estimate was $92 million, I was a little disappointed. I really was hoping that it would beat Spider-Man.

Oh well...I do believe that strong WOM will help it. The majority of users at Rotten Tomatoes have given it a fresh rating, and moviegoer reactions at other sites I've visited has been positive too. So it's going to end up doing quite well, I have no doubts about that :).

I know Jinn, I had the same thing I saw the early numbers and was going nuts so I was a little bummed but I still am very happy it did as well as I hoped honestly for the first weekend.

Anyone know how much it has grossed since it's debut? Been training to find out. I'm wondering if it will break $300 million.

nvm, i found it. its grossed 158 million so far. if it can get in a few more weeks at 20-25 million it will break 300 by the time it is pulled.

It's at around 178M. I doubt it climbs much above 250.

Well 250 will be okay with me, it is doing better overseas actually. It should make over 600 there, Harry Potter is just more popular overseas I can't really give an answer why. Especially Japan it is very very popular there.
