So here's how it is: My parents are working, my grandfather is off drinking to his heart's content. So guess what I get to do for my birthday (today)? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. I think this totally sucks...

My 20th birthday involved no parties, no pomp, nothing special whatsoever.

I went to the Iron Bowl (Alabama vs Auburn game) on campus, to see Alabama lose in a shutout (9-0), the first loss ever to our arch-rivals in Tuscaloosa ever, not to mention the first shutout.

As if that embarassment wasn't horrible enough, the bottom fell out of the temperature that day, and it began to sleet. Unprepared for the weather as I was, I quickly developed hypothermia and frostbite as I walked home from the devastating loss, only to catch the flu and spend the rest of that horrible night degenerating into a feverish, coughing monstrosity, knowing there were no presents or happy birthdays to come home to.

The moral of the story is:

YOU WILL DIE ALONE

As I read this, I referred back to Blade's post to Dyzm at christmas.

Don't be material. Sometimes someone saying happy birthday is all I need.

Yeah, don't worry about it. I myself like to stay anonimous when it comes to my birthday. I make sure that none of my characters either here or at Meras don't have my birthday in their profiles. My last birthday was spent like every other day - waking up, going to work, coming home, and sitting at home drinking. Nothing special.

But happy birthday anyways :)

Happy Birthday, dude!

There's only one difference between a birthday, and any other day. If someone actually remembers, I get a tiny bit richer. :\

Just remember this: Every birthday comes with hidden presents.

In the UK, I was gifted with tobacco, gambling, and became "legal" for something else. At 17, I'll be able to get a provisional license. At 18, I can drink, drive, go porno-shopping, and vote. At 21, the bank gives me a credit card. I know the US is slightly different, but there are ages with milestones. Each birthday brings you closer to one of those.

And finally, something poetic. Each birthday, the same as every day, brings us ever closer to our future. What the future holds for us, no one can truely know. But if there is one thing you should hope for in that future, it is that you are still you. As long as you remain who you are, then the years behind you have been worth something. Your birthday isn't just celebrating the anniversary of a day of excruciating pain for your mother, or the day you first looked at the world. Its the world's chance to celebrate having you in it. Even if you are the only one that celebrates your birthday, that fact remains. On the morning of your birthday, the world gets a little bit luckier, for having spent your life in your company.

So speaketh the man who gets no presents. Happy birthday, K.

Don't live your life, expecting the future is still ahead of you. Your future is now - what you make of your present shapes your future. I guess what I'm trying to say is that you should shape your future, not let your future shape you.

After all, it's never tomorrow, and yesterday is already gone. So have a great today. :) Happy Birthday!

True, but if you live your life thinking that you might not have a tomorrow, then what do you have to hope for? By all means, take every chance that comes your way...you may never get it again. But don't throw your life away day buy day...but don't live too far in the future, either. Go for something in the middle. Make sure you enjoy your day, and plan to do the same tomorrow.

Want some advice? Get your birthday suit on, and go strut your funky stuff down the disco.

On second thought, never mind. That could be...well...illigal, I suppose. :\ :p

The only birthday worth celebrating is your 21st.

My 21st was on a Sunday, with all the bars closed :(

My 22nd was thusly treated as my 21st. Almost died :D
