The new recruit were all lined up, standing at attention, and an officer was walking in front of them. These were the ones that had passed the writen test and Health inspection, and now they will be choosing only a hand full of this group to move on to something better than a stormtrooper, and another handfull that will be rejected.

She had lived on Delteon her whole life, and had dreamed of the day when she would have a chance to command her own ship, And is she gets selected to move on to fleet training today, She will be one step closer.

She had prepared for most of her life for this moment, studying text books, history, tatics, and command for years. She would not be suprised if she got the best score of the writen test because of all her studying. Though having the knowledge and putting it to practice was a diffrent thing intirely.

But there was not much she could do now, but stand at attention, and hold her breath as the officer started on their second pass, starting their selection of the student that they thought should go forward to the fleet and the ones that didn't make the cut.

A tall, broad shouldered, battle scarred officer stiffly walked down the line. One of his eyes was dull, an evident scar crossing from brow to cheek. He was rough and sturdy and wore the uniform of the Mobile Infantry.

The officer walked up to one of the recruits, “Silvin!” he barked, “What makes you want to be a member of the military! Why do you think you have what it takes?!”

Aurora tences up slightly as her name is called. She is nervose, but she does not dare let that show. Even though her guts are churning inside, her voice is stron and confident.

"I wish to serve The Empire so I may bring Respect and Honor to my family's name, while allowing me to protect my Home, Friends, and Family! SIR! "

Aurora pauses to take another deep breath in order to keep her composure.

"I feel I have what it takes, becauses I have devoted my life to this point inorder to prepare me for a life in the service of The Empire! SIR!"

Commodore Jake Snake stood on the platform overlooking the recruitment display. He smiled as he watched the Officer drill at the new cadets. Jake remember when he stood there, in that long line and had the Officer yell at him. He had been young that day and wasn't well disiplined. They had set him straight though and he was greatfull for the military for doing it.

As he watched, he noticed the woman being picked on and remembered when that happened to him. She didn't waiver like he did. He would see in her eyes that she wanted this and would work hard for it. Jake leaned against the railing and kept watching.

The Sergeant let go a low, rumbling growl and turned sharply. He continued walking down the line, his left leg rigid—clearly an old battle wound. “Alright, maggots!” he screamed in his crude voice, “head over to—“

He stopped dead in his tracks, eyes raised and cold. His face contorted and he snapped to attention, “Hail, Imperator!” he said loudly.

A tangled storm of flowing robes cascaded from an open doorway into the courtyard. A chill filled the air as the monster approached. Quickly and adeptly, as if a ballet, the waves of cloth parted revealing a tall, ominous man. His garb was as black as night and exposed at the arms. Dark, demonic tattoos told a contorted and wicked story on his biceps and deltoids.

Without any aid the man’s voice boomed throughout the opening, “Sergeant,” the simple title seemed cold and small as he commanded the ruthless instructor, “what do you call these!” He motioned with one of his hands, a look of disgust trickling down his face.

“Sir! They’re future Soldiers, Sir!”

“Is that so! Show me…” His last words were saturated with wickedness.

“Silvin! Sanderson! Come here!” The Sergeant pulled two daggers from underneath his jacket. They were twisted and jagged and had no guard. The blades appeared red in hue and had multiple points that flowered from random locations.

Aurora removes the tunic to her uniform and steps forwards, taking one of the blades. As her opponent moves to take his blade Aurora looks the man over, trying to determine her odds at defeating her opponent. If she heard correctly, then Sanderson is his name. Standing almost a foot taller than her, and likely weighing over twice her weight in nothing but sheer bone and muscle, Sanderson was an impressive looking person.

Thinking back earlier in their basic training, Aurora can recall hearing the teacher say to another officer that Sanderson would make good Stormtrooper if it was not for the fact that he didn’t fit in the armor. This tell Aurora that Sanderson is not much of a thinker.

Due to his size, Sanderson was likely to be far slower than Aurora. That should make his attacks easer to avoid, though due to the amount of muscles that the man possessed it would only take a small number of hits on her to take her down. This means she must be extra careful.

The two of them are now armed. And have been put at a slight distance from each other as the rules of the encounter are explained to them. Aurora ignores them. Having lived just down the road from the academy for many years, she has seen this done a number of times before. It always seems to happen at least once to each batch of new recruits, and everyone in town knows the rules. Don’t hurt bystanders and kill the opponent. Of course there are other minor rules of common sense, but as long as you have half a brain, you wouldn’t break any of them anyways, so Aurora waits for them to finish talking. The countdown to start the fight begins from three.

3....2... Sanderson jumps the gun.

He comes at Aurora at a full charge, screaming his battle cry at the top of his lungs, and starting the fight with a downward slash towards her left shoulder in an attempt to cleave her through her body with the exit point being her right hip. Of course these were only daggers, and ones of an odd construction at that, so it was unlikely that the blow would go through her, but it would be rather likely that the blow would kill her if it contacted.

Aurora was not all that surprised with the early attack, or by the battle cry, but the volume at which the cry was projected from Sanderson’s mouth was mind numbing, compounded by the fact that they were indoors and the echos were bombarding her from all angles, Aurora almost didn’t see the attack. Forcing herself to overcome the pounding in her head, Aurora drops to the floor, rolling to her left under the attacking blade, and back to her feet in a crouched position.

As she allows herself to recover from the battle cry, Aurora notices a small twinge of pain in her back, and a small amount warm liquid absorbing into her outfit. She’s been hit. Not badly, but a hit is still a hit, and even the smallest hit may hamper her fighting.

Sanderson doesn’t give her much time to get herself together, lucky for her, She doesn’t require much time. Her many hours in the combat simulators have given her mind the sharpness and reflexes required to recover her mind quickly, and react just as quickly. Though most of her simulations were ether in a Snubfighter or light capital ship, a number of the skills learned from them are still transferable to this, the only difference between then and now is, she can die here.

Sanderson does a quick spin, and a quick step forward towards Aurora sending a snap kick at her head. Aurora responds by backing off slightly so that she is out of range of his Attack, slashing out at the kick with her dagger, and contacts with a glancing blow just above the man’s ankle.

At least now both of them were injured

The injury didn’t really slow Sanderson down in the slightest, in fact it only seems to aggravate him even more. In only a few moments Sanderson preforms a lunge at her chest with the dagger, which she avoids by pivoting on her right foot and stepping away from the blade, then a swift round house kick towards the back of her head, which she ducks under, followed by a foot sweep from the same leg that preformed the roundhouse, which knocks her legs out from under her, causing her to land on her back.

Aurora instantly does a backwards roll back to her feet, just in time to avoid Sanderson’s dagger that hit the ground in a powerful blow right where her body sat moments before. Sanderson was bracing for his dagger to hit flesh, not the floor, and thus was not expecting the sudden that occurred when this happened and Sanderson falters. Aurora takes her chance and send a swift kick at Sanderson’s face, contacting with her heel on his mouth. As her foot contacts she can feel something give away on his end as he falls backward. Unfortunately she can also feel that her kick was not executed properly, and she can now feel a shot of pain running up her body from her ankle. She has no choice but to back off for a moment and allow herself to recover as best she can.

Sanderson is back on his feet in a moment, blood rushing out of his mouth as spits out a few of his own teeth. Aurora has backed off enough that she is now leaning against a pillar in the middle of the room holding her ankle. She was hoping it was going to take Sanderson a bit longer to recover than it really did. She goes to put her weight back down on her foot only to be greeted by another sharp twinge of pain. She reflexively lifts her foot back off the floor as sh looks up and sees Sanderson charging back at her with his blade in front of him ready to plunge the blade into her heart.

Aurora grabs the pillar and swings herself around to the other side. Sanderson is moving at such a pace that on the polished floors of the inspection hall, he can’t slow himself down enough to avoid crashing into the pillar.

Aurora Silvin

Sanderson backs away from the pillar as Aurora slashes around it at him. For a few moments Aurora and Sanderson circle the pillar. Aurora thinks about her options as she does her best to keep the pillar between herself and Sanderson.

It’s clear that she can’t beat him with sheer power. That would just get her killed. She can’t run, not only because the officers would stop her from leaving the fight while both of them were still moving, but also because of her ankle. She would have to out think him. Hopefully he would fall for it.

Aurora goes to try and move away from the pillar and confront Sanderson, only to come to face his dagger coming down at her face. She brings up her dagger to block, only to find her dagger knocked from her hand and herself knocked onto her backside.

Sanderson then sends a swift kick to her face. The blow contacts, but Aurora rolls with the blow minimising the damage as best as she can, though with the intention of making it look like she took the full damage of the attack.

She lies limp on the floor moaning as Sanderson approaches her. He has a look on his face as if he has already killed her, and is proud of the kill. He stops at a slight distance and turns to the other recruits raising his hands above his head, letting out a victory cheer. Some of the others cheer back as he turns back to Aurora, approaching the rest of the way. He stands over top of her, moving Aurora on to her back to that he can see the look on her face as he kills her. He stands over her with one leg on ether side of her body, and raises his dagger over his head, and just as he is about to drive the dagger down towards her, the look on her face changes for that of a helpless woman, to that of a gleeful look.

During that moment Aurora sends her good leg up between Sanderson’s legs, contacting with enough force that the sound of the blow can be heard in the far corners of the room. Sanderson’s eyes seem to pop out farther from their sockets, and his expression of victory is replaced by an expression of agony.

Aurora then quickly hook her leg around his left knee and rolls quickly using her arms to assist, causing Sanderson to land on the floor next to her and allowing herself to avoid the falling dagger that now lands behind her. She takes a breath and grabs the dagger from behind her, and quickly brings it around successfully plunging it into Sanderson’s Heart.

She then lets the dagger go and untangles her body from the corpse. She crawls back to the pillar and uses it to help her back to her feet. Using the pillar to support her she does her best to salute the officers.

“Long Live The empire!” She calls to them with only a slight touch of pain in her voice.

Khendon’s face narrowed and a mild smile fell across his face. “You,” he pointed to the small female that had just adeptly disposed of her counterpart, “come here.” His voice was saturated with power and the force trickled forth from his words.

His robes continued to ripple in the unfelt wind. During one such occasion the long, metallic, hilt-like object at his hip was revealed. It let off waves of evil with its claw like guard, black grips, and dark design.

The Sergeant’s eyes flickered from Khendon’s weapon to his face. Confusion filled the man’s mind for a moment and, if it had been anyone else, he would have voiced his disquietude.

Aurora walks forward to Khendon as best as she can with her injured ankle. When she makes it over to him, she drops down to one knee, more due to her ankle than anything, and bows her head in respect.

"Sir, I'm sorry if I did not fight to your standards. I will except any punishment you deem fit for my falure."

Khendon’s voice became stern and morbid, his eyes lashed out with lasers, face contorted with malice, “your punishment,” he spat the words with distaste, “your punishment is…”

The Imperator’s face lightened and he smiled, “You’re now assigned to my staff, go get yourself cleaned up and report to the bridge of the Dark Nebula, she’s a Thanatos-class Pocket Battleship in orbit over Delteon. Hurry, Soldier!”

The Sergeant smiled with pride—and confusion.

Leaning against the rail of the watcher platform, Jake stood and watched the fight. He missed being in action like that and wondered if he still had the skill to match up to those young students. He was impressed with the way this woman handled herself. Jake could tell she was smart just by looking into her eyes. He could see that she was always thinking and making plans.

As he watched he could tell that she need more training, she wasn't ready for special service, but she could be. With a few months of hard training she could be very good indeed. Looking down Jake watched everything, wondering what would happen next. When he heard her punishment, Jake couldn't help but smile himself. He knew she wouldn't be really punished, but didn't know she would be so rewarded. Being on the imperator's staff was a great honor. He couldn't wait to see the look on the recruits face.

Aurora stands snaps to attention, saluting Khendon as best as she can in her current state. Her heart is filled with pride and joy as she hears that she will be serving the Imperator himself.

"Sir! Yes Sir!"

Aurora pivots on her good foot and marches quickly out the door to get herself cleaned up and checked out at the Medbay. After her back is turned to the Imperator Aurora can't help but let a smile creep to her face, even though she is in extreem pain. She has proven her worth. Now she must show her value, Otherwise she will never get her own command.
