The selection of crystals from the temple at Illum has always been a significant step in the journey of a Jedi. It was a ritual that included much soul searching and self assessment on the part of the padawan, giving them the insight needed to follow the path of the Light. It was a step that all Jedi looked forward to taking.

As an apprentice to one of the greatest Jedi since the fall of the Old Republic, Ka’ el was no exception to this step. In fact it was a step he feared he would never get to take; how could such a young inexperienced Jedi ever live up from the shadow of the Jedi Master Figrin D’an? But here he was, packing for the trip to the mountainous planet of Illum. He was folding one of his heavier cloaks and placing it into his bag in preparations for the frigid climate that the ice-incased temple had in store, when his comm-link beeped.

“Hello?”

“Padawan Darcverse, this is Lt. Barry, XO of the transport that will be taking you and Master D’an to Illum. The ship has been prepped and is ready for boarding. So you may board whenever you are ready sir.”

“Thank you Lt. Barry. We should be there shortly.”

Ka’ el placed the last bit of luggage into his bag and then stopped for a moment. His arm was sore, a reminder of why he was going on this journey and why he needed a saber. He had gotten to take the cast off a week ago, but his arm still got tender when he used it. It was getting better, he had been able to restart his full daily training regiment, but getting back to normal was not good enough. No Ka’ el wanted to be the best Jedi ever, he wanted to be invincible so that no one could ever take advantage of those too weak to defend themselves and so he had began increasing his training, perhaps to the extent of over-exertion but he would be stronger if his training did not kill him first.

Ka’ el finally rose after catching his breath and grabbed his comm-link, pressing the auto-dial for his master.

“Master D’an, the transport is ready whenever you are, I’m currently heading to the hangar now.”
