At the New Republic shipyard facility orbiting Fondor skipways were full and works were busy putting ships together. This was one of the largest and most advanced construction sites in the New Republic. Ships are all classes could be constructed in the Fondor skipways.

At this time one of the skipways was clear. It was perposefully kept empty so that construction of a new ship could go underways. It was now a few weeks since the Senate had approved the construction of a new escort for NR fleets. This first of its kind ship was going to be building from preconstructed sections. Frieghters from plants all over the New Republic were constantly coming in and out. They were unloading whole sections of the Protector Class Escort.

Once enough had arrived works started to put them together. Construction starting from the aft forward. Rear sections were floated and moored into place. These were fused together and bonded for extra strength. Droids started to position the sections and weld them. Teams floated inside and outside the ship, bonding sections together. This whole processes would complete the ship in record time. It was easier putting together sections than constructing from scretch.

As the rear engine sections were nearing completion, a freighter arrived and unloaded 4 large thrusters and power systems/generators. Engineers started to install the systems right away.

The Protector was now one third completed. The whole rear section was finished and power systems as well as thrusters had been tested. Everything had worked wonderfully and now the middle section of the escort was started. As before large prebuilt section were being bonded together and soon the wings began to form around the oval shaped body.

Anyone watching the construction would have no way of seeing what the ship would look like. Since a frame was not layed out, one couldn't imagine the shape of the ship being built. However, as time past on the Protector's construction, the body started to form and the smooth surfaces left a little to the imagination. There were still many holes in the body of the completed sections since weapons were yet to be installed.

Within 4 days time, the whole mid-section would be completed as well and 3 days after that, the fore should be done as well. After a few more days of weapons and system installs, the ship should be ready for testing. It was estimated that within 2 weeks the ship should be ready.

The mid-section of the escort was now complete and weapons along with shields and other systems located in that area were begining to be attached. It was still too early to run power feeds and everything like that, but the weapons actual systems themselves were put into place.

Crews worked inside the rear section now and started installing the engineering bays and reactor control/monitoring rooms. Quarters were constructed and decks were lined. Blastshields were installed and tested. Backup generators were also put in place and the workers started to more down the ship.

The foreward/bridge sections were delivered and the task of bonding them with the rest of the completed body went underway. Within 3 estimated days, the body of the ship would be complete.

The construction crew had now finished two days late because of a defect in two sections of the fore hull. These sections had failed stress testing and were returned to the manufacturer. Two new sections were sent out at once, but it still ment that the construction was behing estimated completion time.

The new sections had been perfect and were bonded to the hull at once. The operation would have taken longer if the construction team leader hadn't though of putting all the other sections together and having them float inspace untill the new sections arrived. The team had almost finished the whole front of the ship when the freighters with the new sections arrived. These were bonded to the ship and then to the other preesembled fore sections.

Finally the hull was finished and all the other work could begin. Teams went into the ship, while droids and weapons engineers worked outside to install weapons and shielding. Power feeds were run and electronics attached. Specialized personel went to work installing the bridge computers and sensitive scanner systems. The ship was finally coming together.

It was finally complete. The newest and best anti-fighter/missile escort the New Republic Navy has ever seen. The 350 meter ship was commisioned under the name of its class, Protector . The mooring lines were released and engines fired. Blue thrust shut out of the nozzels as the ship started to slowly accelerate away from the shipyard. All systems were green and the skeleton crew was ready for the testing phase. After locking in the jump coordinates the captain ordered the jump. In seconds the large escort lurched into hyperspace.
