Under my desk I now have....

1) Athlon 2400XP (XP)
512mb (soon to be 1Gb)
GeForce MX440 128mb (Sucky, going to Radeon next month)
1 * 40Gb Seagate, 1 * 80Gb Seagate
Microsft Intellimouse, Compaq USB keyboard
DVD
Packard Bell 17" monitor

2) Athlon 2000XP+ (W2k Server, Exchange)
256mb (son to be 512mb)
All in one POS mb (well.... okay, it's not that bad - K7 Triton)
40Gb seagate
Dell 17" monitor

3) AMD 64 3000+ (XP 64 bit)
1Gb PC3200 Corsair memory
120Gb Seagate SATA
Radeon 9600 (The good one, forget exactly the code)
DVD Burner
Microsoft keyboard / Intellimouse
17" samsung TFT which is utterly brilliant :D

And to really annoy the hardware geeks, I just installed a Opteron 248, with 2Gb Corsair memory, 3 * 73 Gb 15,000 rpm SCSI's, DVD burner, Tyan motherboard with PCI-X, 160Gb Seagates in removable HDD trays, 2 * 1000 M/b LAN

While my lil 64 bit system is rocket quick, the Opteron left it for dead. What an awesome bit of weaponry the 248 is.

Heh. If I want a 19" CRT, I'll go grab my wife's 19" flat screen. Now that's one nice monitor. heavy bastard tho.

And on that note, ponder this - how can the wrong BIOS be put onto a motherboard and it still works - just?

I'm content with my VAIO. :) I have a 17" flatscreen...not to shabby. I like it's picture quality a lot better than my old 19" CRT. :lol

Sounds like you have a nice system there, Mark. :)

Actually, CRTs generally have better picture quality. That's why most people who do graphics work use them instead of flat monitors.

I know that's how it generally is, but I've found that I really like this flatscreen picture a lot better. *Shrugs* Maybe it's just me. I do all of my graphic work on this thing and it's a lot easier for me to work with and I like the outcome of my work a lot better.

Guess it's personal preference, really. :)

Because someone flashed the BIOS chip wrong...

In the end different motherboards follow similar procedures and designs to host a line of chips (CPU, RAM, Chip Set) there for it is possible to get a motherboard to work for a short ammount of time with the wrong BIOS.

NOTICE I SAID SHORT!

I forgot what my monitor size is... 21" I think? And it's not a flatscreen. Nice clear crisp picture. :)

Slightly OT: The main reason graphics designers use CRTs is not because they're crisper (they're not) its because of color accuracy. LCDs just don't have it down right.

There is also the issue of contrast ratio, brightness, response time and view angle, although there have been vast improvements in these areas.

I still use a 98 model Daewo 17 incher CRT, and it works perfect for me, thus no reason to change it :)

The rest of the computer specs are:

Athlon XP 2000 (wish I had one of those 64 bits..)
Asus A7V333
512 MB RAM (the bare minimum for SWG :rolleyes)
GeForce Ti4200 (should work adequately until HL2 and Doom3)
1 x 120GB + 1 x 30GB harddisks (and I keep running out of space! :headache)
1 10x DVD ROM + 24/10/40 CD writer (good for solving the above problem)
Logitech Mx500 optical mouse + func surface 1030 :hat
Microsoft Internet Keyboard Pro USB
2 Mbit/640 kbit ADSL :thumbup
