I searched through all the old techie threads on video cards and whatnot and I know you Mods dont like having old topics brought back to life, so here I am.

Its my birthday in May, and I'll be saving up my cash for a PC upgrade when that video card price drop hits. However I'm aware of the bottleneck that will occur on my system with an upgrade from a Geforce 2 MX to a Radeon 9600 XT, while still having only 60 Gig HD, 512 MB ram, and a 1.1 GHz Athlon processor.

So anyways to the point. What would you recommend for a memory upgrade, and possibly a processor upgrade to keep it all in the range of that graphics card. I get confused with all the new different types of RAM. Thanks.

Your memory seems fine for now.

As for your processor, bump it up a gig and you'll be fine.

As a side note, I put a Ti 4200 on my 384 sdram 800 mhz P3 machine a year and a half ago, and it worked fine for a while.

So I should look for somethin like 2.2 Gigs, but Athlon or Pentium?

why did you say you were confused about hardrives? You didn't request help on hardrive upgrades.

At this point, you need a new motherboard to get a faster proccessor. This means new memory, too. Pentium = Intel which isn't an option on the cheap.

On the cheap, I suggest this motherboard (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=13-128-213&depa=0), this memory (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=20-145-479&depa=0). You may or may not need a new power supply to make all of this stuff work. This CPU (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=19-103-379&depa=1) would be my almost budget weapon of choice.

Love the XP 2500+ chips. Those Barton cores are great for overclocking.

why did you say you were confused about hardrives?

Because if I said "confused about memory" you might think something else, haha.

Anyways, thank you Morg + Charley, you always have good recommendations. I'll keep this stuff in mind.
