When I use the magic wand, normally it would just select the colors in that certain area up to tolerance would allow. Yeah, fine and dandy that was.

I had to reformat recently, crap.

Reinstalled photoshop without a problem and now almost every pixel with a color close to the area I click on becomes selected, even if it's floating in an area of a wholly different color. Oh yeah, and my thumbnails in the My Pictures gallery, where I store my stock for PS, loads slower than syrup.

What's going on?

What version of Photoshop? Either way, you need to adjust the tolerance level. It should say something like 20 or 30. Adjust it lower to be more picky. Also, it needs to create new thumbnails. It will probably get faster in time.

Tried that, here's a quick example of what I meant.

The selection was done with just 1 click with the wand.
