I only use Mozilla, my friend only uses Avent. Popups are through IE. We've run Spybot and Adaware and got nada (most recent versions of both)

At first, it was only on his user, then it was on mine.

Anyone help ?

I don't understand what the problem is.

I think they're using Mozilla and Advent, and they're still getting popups on IE even though it's not being used?

We don't use IE. We both loathe it, for obvious reasons.

And the problem is that popups are just randomly occuring through IE. It opens an IE popup.

These popups. Are they always the same, or always different?

Well I'm no Reed Richards, but I'd guess that wpuld be spyware opening it. Done an Adaware scan or anything recently?

Long time no see. :)

Did you try alt+ctrl+delete to see if any weird processes were running?

I'm running the most recent, yes.

It hasn't happened after the scans most recently, actually- I just checked his user and I've been on the PC for a while, no popups.

Running the latest version doesn't mean they're up to date.

On a related sidenote, I downloaded Ad-Aware6 onto my work computer because we run IE here. I've had it on the comp. for three days and I've already quarantined 40+ files. The majority were the first scan, but I ran it twice yesterday and got things both times, and nine more today.

I hate IE. It doesn't help that my manager uses "Webshots" for her desktop, of course. Spyware laden piece of you-know-what.

Well, is it possible that a pop-up could be occuring because it is part of a program or website that you are visiting?

I dunno, being so stoopid with these matters I could be talking outta me butt :p

If you dont have Messenger service AND a decent firewall, you are still liable for popups.

At the least, get firewalled.

Just for reference... provides good lists of potentially harmful background processes, as well as the legit ones. Descriptions are given, too.
