An B-7 class freighter slowly swooped down towards a circular landing pad, the light glinting off its hull and showing off its metallic surface. Inside, 2 Republic pilots sat side by side as one flipped switches and pushed buttons as the other gently controlled the shuttle in a vertical landing onto the pad.
“Alright guys, We’re setting down. Get the fuel pumps ready.”
2 Republic guards saluted sharply behind him and jogged off to refuel the ship. Another pilot suddenly popped up from the floor, a shin layer of sweat over his face.
“That turret room is hot. Requesting permission to get some fresh air sir?”
The pilot pushing the buttons replied, “Very well.”
The 2 guards stood on the edge of the ramp as it was still landing and hopped off, running to the side of the ship and unhooking a fuel pump. The 2 pilots left their chairs and strode into the cargo hold. Pulling a thin aluminum looking tarp off a stack of boxes, they revealed a shipment of Chemtrox.
The Chemtrox had been discovered on Yavin IV, most likely left there by Imperials after the battle. It was a nasty nerve gas which claimed the lives of many soldiers in ways only dreamed of in nightmares. The 2 pilots checked that all the cargo was in order before calling in the transporters.
“Wait a moment, I thought we left Yavin with 100 containers? Yes, we did. There are only 53 here. Send a transmission to the Republic about this right away.”
The pilot nodded and pulled out a comlink, walking away from the Captain.
“This is Freighter 2475, we have urgent news to report to the New Republic.”
There was no reply. The pilot looked over his comlink and found that he had it on the wrong channel. He was about to send the message again when suddenly he heard a dull bump, followed by a roar which caused the floor of the ship to buckle and crumble under the pilots feet. The pilot, however, was thrown out of the ramp of the ship from the explosion which caused the floor of the ship to collapse. He rolled out onto the ground, turning over to reveal glazed eyes and a look of horror on the man’s face.
The 2 pilots were standing by the fuel pump as it filled. They leaned against the ship and waited as the fuel shot into the ship very quickly. Suddenly, there was a rumbling in the hose and a klunk as if something had entered the fuel tank. A massive explosion confirmed their beliefs. The two men were instantly incinerated in a ball of fire, and the ship’s hull noticeably rippled and exploded from the blast.
The gunner was thrown to the ground as he looked on in horror as the ship exploded. He stood quickly and ran from the explosion, trying to find someone who could help him.
