View Full Version : Sorry Miss Feinstein, I don't think so!

Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-California -- who sponsored the assault weapons ban's extension -- said her measure "has the support of 77 percent of the American people and 66 percent of gun owners."

"It has not removed a legal gun owner from his weapon and has reduced traces of assault weapons to crimes by two-thirds in the last 10 years," she said.

The amendment would continue to bar the sale of 19 different types of military and military-style assault weapons. It has the support of many law enforcement agencies.

Craig opposed both amendments, urging his colleagues to "let the assault weapons ban die peacefully" and insisting that closing the gun show loophole would not help stop criminals.

"Ok, add this, this, this, and while you're at it, can you go ahead and extend that assault weapons ban, tee hee?" ^_^;

HELL NO, BITCH!

:shootin

September cannot come fast enough. Please keep this sea hag away from gun laws for the next 6 months and I'll be happy.

When California re-elects her? I know they've got the Governator and all now, but Californians = insane when it comes to voting. There is never anyway to predict how California is going to swing, cause just when you think you've got them pigeonholed, they change.

The AWB has never been proven to do anything in regards to gun crime. Its main purpose is to remove "evil-looking guns" from the market. Contrary to popular belief, it does not make owning automatic weapons illegal. You can do that easily enough with a tax stamp purchase.

The insanity of the law is in what it does ban. Higher capacity magazines (over 10 rounds), threaded barrels, folding stocks, pistol grips on rifles and shotguns, bayonet lugs, muzzle brakes, etc. Regarding everything besides the magazine, you are allowed a certain amount of these "evil features" on any particular gun, but any more than 2 or 3, and its suddenly "a bad gun".

Where the law goes wacko is that you can still buy these "evil features", as long as they were built before the 1994 AWB. So, it doesn't even make this stuff illegal. I can't do this for my pistol because its such a new design, but if I had something like a Beretta or a Glock, I could get on Ebay and buy a high-capacity mag for it easily. It would cost more, due to rarity, but it wouldn't be difficult or illegal.

Thus, the AWB is fluff legislation at its worst. It does nothing at all to curb violent crime, and does quite a lot to crap on law-abiding gun owners. The bill is knee-jerk legislation, rushed into essence by ignorant soccer moms who have a panic attack at the word "gun".

But I had to. We all know I;m an Imperialist.

Look at it logically, though. This would never happen if America had an Emperor. Weapons would be the least of news-making items.

Your "benevolent despot" theories suck. Its pretty well correlated that the more centrist and authoritarian a government becomes, the tighter they clamp down on the citizenry's right to bear arms.

You know who else was big on gun control? Thats right!

Narrow minded!?!?

Mate, there's the odd America bash (that is even sometimes justified) which keeps me entertained and a few of us similar overseas posters who share views - and then there is complete and utter stupidity and you, crossed the line. What the hell do you think they were going to say, "I for one welcome our new Imperial Overlords"?!?!?!

I personally think banning assault weaponry is justified as it has no real point in civilian hands... it's excessive IMO. Then, OTOH I have two highly excessive motor vehicles and I see something of the gun lobby's point and thence..... my opinion is negated on the grounds of hypocracy. Carry on, good luck with the law being negated.

Precisely, its an issue of testosterone hobbies.

I get my jollies from brass-spitting hand cannons the same as you get yours from doing drifts in a Subie or somesuch. In the hands of responsible, serious enthusiasts, there's no danger. This is hard to explain to the least common denominator though, who consider possession of such hobby items to be unsaid motives in unperpetrated crimes.

In other words, its becoming synonymous with thought crimes.

Well, I'm wanting to get this assault rifle. Clearly, I have ambitions to kill people and overthrow the government. I must be stopped beforehand!

or

I've got this burning-fast rally car, and it gives me a lisence to tear across the highways, putting pedestrians and vehicle owners in mortal danger!

:rolleyes

The issue here is collective responsibility vs personal responsibility. I'm mortified that people want to rely more on the government than they do on themselves and each other.

as far as gun control, im with charley for the most part. i know i wont be getting a gun for myself cause id more than likely end up shooting myself in the foot or hand with it. give me a sketchbook and pencils, thank you. i know that stuff. if a law-abiding citizen is responsible enough to handle a gun and actually KNOWS what theyre doing and how to use it, then theyre that much safer in this country

Ah yes, Californian voting...a permanent sore point for my Republic parents in California. :lol

Like Marcus said, there is always room for excesses, and introducing the AWB didn't do much for crime...it's not like one more illegal thing gets in the way of criminals, so I don't see the point of having it.

BTW, there's this great gun range outside of Beijing, where you can shoot off pretty much any personal weapon from communist-era China, provided you know where the trigger is and that you don't aim it at the attendants.

And Telan...please stop it with the Imperialist argument. The world changed, and Democracy changed with it. Despite the fact that government has had its share of growing pains, I never feel like I'll wake up the next morning to a war or a revolution (except for Election day...^_^; ).

Isn't every weapon used to attack another person an assualt weapon? Half the things the AWB, as Charley mentioned, bans are objects that do nothing to increase the deadliness of the gun. Oooo!! Rubber grip so they don't drop it! WATCH OUT!!

It's communist in name-only. China is finding itself having to gravitate towards more free-market policies because of the world economic stage. It's evolutionary, and thus we don't necessarily see it clearly, but it is happening.

I'm all for responsible gun ownership. I use to own 10-12 guns myself: glock, beretta, winchester rifles, smith & wesson. remington, yadda yadda.

A pencil can be considered an assault weapon if it's used to cause harm against another person. The weapons themselves do not matter, its who uses them and how they use them. Instead of "punishing" the law-abiding gun owners, how about making it more difficult for these "assault" weapons to fall into the hands of the criminals? Punish them, not us.

I think the government needs to refocus it's attentions on changing the penal system a bit. Why do we have death row? IMO ( and yes, my opinion is biased on this issue because my aunt was murdered by her own husband) - get rid of the prisoners who've been leeching off the system for the past 5, 10, 20+ years and electrocute them already. There. You've freed up more prison space and can quit griping about how there's no room in the system so let the dude walk.

Penalties and punishments have to be far more severe than what is currently used. Juvenilles (yes, I am aware that there are a few cases where they tried as adults) get away with murder -literally - simjply because they are under the age of 17 or 18 and aren't adults. BS! IMO, if you're old enough to do the crime, you are certainly old enough to take the harshest punishment there is for it.

This country ( as well as the world) is in need of an enema. The population (not everyone, but in general) suffers from "It's not my fault/not my responsibility syndrome. It's too easy to blame others for the mistakes made by oneself and never to be held responsible for ones own actions.

This is my #1 pet peeve. (Er, that's pet peeve #2. Idiocy is pet peeve #1. )

Case in point - Telan - Just watch SW again, Then return to tell me just how well living under the rule of an Emperor truly would work out, because according to the SW films I saw, the Emperor got his <smallfont color=#8BDEFE>-read the FAQ-</smallfont> handed back to him on a silver platter by one whiney <smallfont color=#8BDEFE>-read the FAQ-</smallfont> farmboy from Tattooine... If you have a version where the Emperor lives and Imjperial rule reigns on, send it my way, I'd like to see that version :)

I apologize for that mistake. Living here, you don't get the feel of a Communist country anymore. Although the police couldn't care less about giving out driving tickets, and corruption is everywhere, you rarely see anything very "Communist" happening. I think the closest thing I've witnessed was during SARS, when the government ordered stores to stay open at night, and when it pulled infected patients out of hospitals when the WHO came to inspect the situation.

I'll hush up now, I don't want to draw attention away from the original point of this thread. Sorry Charley. Once again, my apologies. :D

Is that all you can choose from? Not to be a gun snob or anything, but Norinco arms are not exactly quality pieces, even compared to other communist bloc armories. Norinco SKS and Kalashnikovs kinda suck, to put it lightly. Russian and Eastern European production series seem to be much better in terms of quality. I have no idea why.

Ok, let me make one final correction...they have practically every gun there that is found in South East Asia, from Indonesian to Phillipino, Thai to Malaysian. I don't really get my kicks out of shooting guns; then again I'm only 16. :lol

So, pretty much its a Norinco party.

That's cool I guess. Its better than nothing. It could definitely be worse. You could be dealing with Japanese WW2 guns, like the Model 97 (I think thats the one), which would discharge when pressure was applied to the frame.

What a piece of crap.

Then again, Arisaka rifles aren't too bad.

Stop bogging yourself down in semantics. The K in AK stands for Kalashnikov. Therefore, a Norinco Kalashnikov and a Norinco AK are one in the same.
